Beemer, Simmie Bryan -

Services for Simmie Bryan Beemer, 91, were held at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home April 29, 1988 officiated by Rev. Ted DeHass and

Rev. Carl Cummings. Burial was at Conway Cemetery, Conway, Ia. Mr. Beemer died April 25, 1988 at Bedford Manor, Bedford, Ia.

Simmie Bryan Beemer, son of Simeon Beemer and Alice May Whitecotton Beemer was born at rural Lenox (Taylor County) Iowa

September 27, 1896. He lived in Taylor County and grew to maturity there. He attended the rural schools.

On March 17, 1917 he was united in marriage to Mary Ethel Smith at Creston, Ia. and they lived on farms with the exception of seven

years at Sumner, Mo. To this union 12 children were born. He was engaged in farming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Simeon and Alice May Whitecotton Beemer; his wife, Mary Ethel Smith Beemer in May

1983, his daughter, Beth Carolyn Beemer in 1936, his son, Bryce Owen Beemer, in 1980, three grandchildren and one great

grandchild and a son-in-law, Lyle W. Miller in 1986; six sisters and their spouses, Reila Akers, Mollie Rumbaugh, Lottie Ross, Ollie

Sturm, Nellie Blair, Sarah Voger, and one brother, John Beemer.

Sim is survived by 10 children, Betty Boyer, husband Marvin, Clearfield; Joyce Ridnour, husband Ralph of Walnut, Ia.; Virgil

Beemer, wife Vivian, Bedford, Ia.; Dean and wife Betty Jean, Cody, Wy.; Dale and wife Zonette, Conway, Ia.; Mary Lu Schofield and

husband Lloyd, Lenox; Alice Ann Miller, Grant City, Mo.; Jerry and wife Jean, Conway; Sally Hensley and husband Gary of Corning; Tim,

wife Linda of Blair, Ne.; also one daughter-in-law, Beverly Barnett Beemer of Cody, Wy.; two sisters, Minnie Triller, Grants Pass, Or.;

Grayce Houchin and husband Ivan of Coming, Ia.; three sisters-in-law, Lulu Robinson, Lenox; Kathryn Young Smith, Bedford, and Mildred

Foster Beemer of Sumner, Mo.; 33 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

He was a member of the school board, township trustee, C.C.C. board and town council was served by him for many years.

Boltinghouse, Margaret Smith -

Memorial services for Margaret Smith Boltinghouse of Catonsville, Maryland were held Monday, May 2, 1988 at the Christian Temple

Church in that city. Dr. William Ryan officiated and also conducted interment services at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville, Maryland.

Mrs. Boltinghouse passed away at her home on Thursday, April 28 following hospitalization at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center in

Baltimore. She was born March 4, 1920 in Horatio, Ark.

Margaret attended school in Horatio, graduating from high school in 1937 as valedictorian of her class. She also received the

National Honor Society Award. She then taught school in Horatio prior to attending State A&M College in Magnolia and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

She was employed by the War Department in 1943 at Warner Robbins Field in Georgia and was transferred to the Hawaii Air

Depot, Hickam Field, Honolulu, Hawaii in 1944.

On February 21, 1946, she was united in marriage with Lt. (jg) Llyle Boltinghouse, U.S. Navy, who was serving with the Fleet Radio

Unit-Pacific at Pearl Harbor. The marriage took place at the First Christian Church in Honolulu.

Margaret and Llyle returned to the states in September, 1946 and settled in Baltimore, Maryland. She was employed at the Maryland

Unemployment Compensation Commission for several years and also at the Social Security Administration. She retired from that

position in 1981.

Margaret was a member of Palestine Chapter #82 of the Eastern Star and the Auxiliary of Spring Grove Hospital Center in

Catonsville, She also belonged to the Boumi Temple Bou-Tem-Sei Club of Baltimore.

She is survived by her husband, Llyle Boltinghouse of Catonsville; two daughters, Kyle Brown (husband Gary) of Silver Spring,

Maryland and Deborah Pepperkorn (husband Rick) and grandson, Travis Pepperkorn of Centerville, Va.; her mother, Cynthia Smith of

Chickasha, Ok.; a sister, Kathrya Hartley of Lawton, Ok.; as well as other relatives and friends.

Margaret was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a true friend, a kind and special member of the human race.

Brown, Eddie Roosevelt -

Eddie Roosevelt Brown, born October 27, 1900 to William and Clarissa (Hamblin) Brown died March 15, 1988 at the age of 87

years, four months and 17 days.

Eddie was the fourth of 10 children. He was preceded in death by brothers: Orin, Dee, Orville and Glen.

Surviving brothers and sisters are Dale, Harlan, Ia.; Horace, Lenox, Ia.; Opal Weeda, Bedford; Jessie Colter, Kalispell, Mt.; Mattie

Hayes, Knoxville, Ia.

On August 21, 1924 Eddie was married to Grace Edwards and to this union five children were born. The first born, a son William

Charles, died at birth.

Besides his wife Grace, four children are remaining survivors, sons: Bob and wife Kathlyn, Lenox; Darwin and his wife Susie, Rolla,

Mo.; Darrell and wife Shirley, Orting, Wa.; daughter, Clare Ellen and husband Dean Davis of Lincoln, Ne.; 20 grandchildren, 22

great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Cunningham, Alice Madden -

Mass of Christian burial was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 17 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church in Topeka, Ks. for Alice M. Cunningham.

Mrs. Cunningham died March 14 at a Topeka hospital after a short illness.

Alice was born May 4, 1904 in Lenox, Iowa, the daughter of Dennis and Mary Mitchell Madden. She graduated from Lenox High

School in 1923.

She was married to Frank Cunningham on April 10, 1944 at St. Patrick's Church in Lenox. He preceded her in death on January

12, 1983.

Mrs. Cunningham was employed as a retail sales person in Lenox for many years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Lenox and

an active member in the Altar Society.

In 1970 she and her husband moved to Nortonville, Ks. where she was a member of St. Joseph's Church and Alter Society.

Alice moved to Topeka, Ks. in 1984. Until the time of her death she lived at First Christian Church Retirement Apartments.

She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Church in Topeka.

Survivors include a daughter Mary Ann McNeal of Topeka, Ks.; a sister Delia Boltinghouse of Lenox; four granddaughters, Maria

Shell, Angela Shell, Melinda Shell and Regina Shell all of Topeka; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Janis L. Ecklin, infant daughter of Johnny Lee and Kathleen Marie (Matya) Ecklin of Diagonal were 10:30 a.m.

Tuesday, April 5 at the Calvary Cemetery, Corning.

The Rev. Michael B. Berner officiated. The Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox had charge of arrangements.

The infant was stillborn April 1, 1988 at Greater Community Hospital.

Survivors include her parents, Johnny and Kathy Ecklin of rural Diagonal; a brother, Allen; three sisters, Sarah, Julie and Janet,

grandparents, J.E. and Bernadine Ecklin of Diagonal and Tom and Ferna Matya of Corning; and great

grandmothers, Pearl Routh, Kathrine Bartholome and Nellie O'Connell.

Funeral services for Jamie Jo Hogue were held Tuesday, June 28, 1988 at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox with Rev. George W.

Campbell officiating. Interment was at West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox, Ia. Jamie died June 25, 1988 in Des Moines, Ia.

Jamie is survived by her parents, Lewis and Sandra Hogue; sister Valarie, brother Cody; grandparents: Lewis and Mary Hogue of

Prescott; John and Joyce Dunn of Omaha, Ne.; Gus and Jo Dallmeyer of Pflugerville, Tx.; and great grandmothers Ida Hogue of Creston

and Opal Smith of Austin, Tx.  [Born July 23, 1987]

Knott, Carroll William -

Carroll William Knott, 75, Greeley, formerly of Sterling, died May 25, 1988 in Greeley. Funeral services were held Saturday, May

28, 1988. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery.

He was born December 14, 1912 in Sharpsburg, Iowa, the son of Charles W. and Mabel Clare Underwood Knott, raised and educated in Sharpsburg. He married Leota E. Applequist August 11, 1934 in Holyoke. They resided in Nebraska, later farmed in Iowa before moving to Imperial, Neb. in 1948 where Mr. Knott worked for the Co-op Oil  Company. In 1950 they moved to Holyoke where Mr. Knott was manager of Scholl Oil Co, until moving to Sterling in 1957 where he worked for Bill's Motor Co. and Sterling Colorado Beef Co., retiring in 1978. The couple moved to Greeley in May 1986.

Mr. Knott was a member of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by his wife, Leota E Knott of Greeley; a daughter Royce Williams of Peetz; two sons, Myron Knott of Mesa, Az,, and

William Knott of Aurora; a brother, Leonard Knott of Sharpsburg; a sister Ellen Wehrhan of Mesa, Az.; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Manroe, Elfleda Drake -

Funeral sevices for Elfleda Manroe were held May 25, 1988 at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Corning. Interment was at East

Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Elfleda Manroe, daugher of Phillip Ashley and Annie Rose (Boon) Drake was born September 25, 1896 at Utica, Ne. and entered

into rest at her home at San Diego, Ca. May 13, 1988 at the age of 91 years, seven months and 18 days.

On February 2, 1917 she was united in marriage with Fred Manroe at Bedford. Three sons were born to this union.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Fred.

Survivors include three sons, Benjamin of San Diego, Ca. and Phillip and William Manroe, both of California; eight grandchildren

including Wayne Moore of Corning; 20 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Greenwood Chapel Mortuary, San Diego, Ca. May 18 at 2 p.m. with Rev. John K. Sorensen officiating.

Mrs. Manroe was brought to Corning, Ia. for services.

Miller, Edith L Edwards -

Funeral services for Edith L. Miller were held Sunday, April 10, 1988 at Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Lenox, Ia. with Rev. Paul

Grandon officiating. Interment was at West Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, Ia.

Edith L. (Edwards) Miller was born August 26, 1908, the third child of John and Anna (Cochran) Edwards in Lenox, Ia.  She attended Lenox schools and graduated from Lenox High School in 1927. Edith married Harry W. Miller on December 11, 1929 at

Red Oak, Ia.

One son, Cecil Carl Miller, was born to bless this marriage.

Edith and Harry loved the land and together they worked the same farm for 54 years before moving to Lenox in 1983. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Miller, her parents, John and Anna Cochran Edwards, and brother Harry Edwards.

She is survived by her son Cecil Miller and his wife Betty Jo, two granddaughters, Barbara (husband Gary) Freeman and Carla (husband

Jeff) Reed; four great grandchildren, Christy and Kurtis Freeman and Trever and Jody Reed, all of Lenox; one sister, Ruth

Buxton and Ruth's children, Garland James Buxton and Katherine Buxton Devine, two brothers-in-law, Raymond Miller (wife Frances)

of Lenox, Frankie Miller (wife Catherine) of Fairfield Bay, Ark., and sisters-in-law Hazel Steaks, Opal Miller, Lela (husband Bud).

Spoonemore, Wilma (husband Richard) Gray, Alberta (husband James) Calvin, Marie Miller and Pauline Miller, all of Lenox, and

many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Making her house a home was her joy in life and she will be remembered as one who did so many extra little things for those

she loved.

May God grant comfort and strength of those who mourn.

Nixon, Isabel -

Funeral services for Isabel Nixon were held May 9, 1988 at the First Christian Church in Lenox with Dr. Jack Cutbirth and Rev. Ray Nixon officiating. Interment was at West Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, Ia.

Isabel Nixon was born on April 11, 1890 on a farm in Taylor County, Iowa, 5-1/2 miles west of Lenox. Her parents were Hugh and

Mary Catherine Jopling Nixon and she had 11 brothers and sisters.

She was a member of Blue Grove Christian Church, later attended Central Christian Church in Des Moines, and the Lenox Christian

Church.

Isabel attended rural Taylor County School and taught for two years. She then attended A.I.B. Business School in Des Moines and

worked in Des Moines and Omaha for the Studebaker Company.

In 1924 Isabel moved to San Francisco, Ca., and worked there for over 30 years. During the years she was away she remained loyal

and loving to her family in Iowa and especially to her many nephews in the armed service during World War II. She retired in

1955 and returned to Lenox and helped care for her brother Henry, and sister Emma, in their declining years.

She was a special lady in the lives of her family, a humorous and warm individual who lived life with reserved dignity -- a jewel in the

Nixon crown.

She is survived by one sister, Ruth Boltinghouse, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents,

five brothers and five sisters.

Norton, Margaret E Scott -

Funeral services for Margaret E. Norton were held June 27, 1988 at the United Methodist Church in Lenox with Rev. Paul Grandon officiating.  Interment was at North Fairview Cemetery, Lenox.

Margaret Elizabeth Norton, eldest daughter of Edna Stout and Abner M. Scott, was born November 23, 1903 in Macedonia, Ia. She passed away June 24, 1988 at the Lenox Care Center at the age of 84 years and seven months.

She was raised in the Tabor and Malvern communities. She was baptized at an early age in the Christian Church, later joining the

Malvern Methodist Church in 1927.

Margaret was united in marriage to H.A. Norton on November 23, 1921, at Glenwood, Ia. After their marriage, they spent two years in

White Lake, S.D. They returned to make their home on a farm near Malvern, until moving to a farm south of Lenox. In 1943 they retired from farming and moved to their present home in Lenox.

They were blessed with a son, Glenn on June 18, 1930.

Margaret is survived by her husband of 66 years, H.A. Norton; son Glenn and wife Donna of Lenox; three grandchildren: Glenna Cox of

Glenwood, Jay Norton and Jan Dorr, both of Lenox, their husbands and wife; nine great grandchildren; sister Geraldine Norton of Lincoln, Ne., Waunetta Killion and Geneva Rutledge of Glenwood; brother Ralph Scott of Malvern, and their spouses. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Margaret was a very caring person, spending many days and nights caring for mothers and their newborn babies who she had helped bring into this world. She will be missed by all her friends and loved ones.

Mass of Christian burial was held for Edith L Robinson Tuesday, May 24, 1988 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox, Ia.

Rev. Gerald J. Stessman and Rev. Michael B. Berner officiated. Interment was at North Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, la.

Edith Lillian Dotts, the daughter of John and Susan Plummer Dotts, was born September 8, 1897, in Taylor County, Iowa. She died

Saturday, May 21, 1988 at Mercy Hospital in Corning, Ia., at the age of 90 years, eight months, and 13 days.

Edith resided all of her life in Taylor County. She was united in marriage to Frank Robinson on January 30, 1916. Four children

were born to this union: Maxine, Doyle, Barbara, and Hal.

Edith is survived by two daughters: Maxine Allbee and husband Glen of Chariton, Ia.; Barbara Colter and husband Harold of Los

Angeles, Ca.; one son Doyle Robinson and wife Florence of Lenox; 15 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild;

and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, son Hal, two great grandsons: Michael and Jordan Robinson; and eight

brothers and sisters. Edith was a loving and caring wife and mother and will be missed by all.

Sandstrom, Viola Jane Veatch -

Funeral services for Viola Jane Sandstrom were held Monday, July 11, 1988 at Salem Lutheran Church in Creston, Ia. with Pastor Dan

Mixdorf officiating. Burial was at West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox, Ia.

Viola Jane Sandstrom, daughter of Charles Arthur Veatch and Florence Lutishe Dawes was born June 2, 1909 and died July 7, 1988

at Creston Manor Care Center at the age of 79.

She was married to Gunnar W. Sandstrom January 3, 1933 in Omaha, Ne. To this union were born: one daughter, Marlene (Randy) Miller, Wickenburg, Az.; and one son, Albert Sandstrom, Dallas Center.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Creston.

Viola moved with her family to southwest Iowa when she was five years old. After her marriage she and Gunnar farmed northwest of

Creston until 1942 when they moved to a farm of their own in Taylor County. After Gunnar's retirement in the fall of 1977 they

lived for several months with Gunnar's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Wmar Peterson in Creston until moving to Regency Park in

June of 1978.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, granddaughter Rusann Lyn Sandstrom; one great granddaughter, Kandi Jo

McBrayer; and three brothers, Estle, Howard and Marion.

Survivors include one daughter Marlene Miller of Wickenburg, Az.; one son, Albert Sandstrom, Dallas Center; six grandchildren and four

great grandchildren; one sister, Arda Brown, Tempe, Az.; three brothers, Olen Veatch, Fontanelle, Eugene (Lucile), South Fork, Co.,

Walter (Leona), Prescott; one sister-in-law, Ione Veatch, Creston.

Smith, James Harold (Jim) -

Services for James Harold (Jim) Smith, 72, Norman, who died Sunday [June 12, 1988] was held Wednesday in the Westwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Blair officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Primrose Funeral service.

Mr. Smith was born June 25, 1915 in Lenox, la., the son of Francis and Etta James Smith. On Sept. 18, 1937 he married Edna

Pearl Bull in Maryville, Mo. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Lenox and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8798 in Eufaula. He had worked as a

diesel mechanic and a truck driver. He lived in Norman for 12 years, moving there from Midwest City. He had previously lived in the

Oklahoma City area for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Edna of the home; a son and daughter-in-law Don and Susan Smith of Norman; two daughters

and sons-in-law, Shirley and George Burris of Norman and Marilyn and Bob Stewart of Eufaula; 11 grandchildren; 12 great

grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Helen Smith of Lebanon, Mo.; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Orville Smith, a grandson, Mickey, and a granddaughter, LeAnn Marie.
