Ambrose, Elmo Reldon -

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 10 at the Lenox United Methodist Church for Elmo Reldon Ambrose, 63. Mr.

Ambrose died at the Omaha VA Hospital Feb. 7.

The Rev. Lester Hesseltine officiated and burial was in West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox with graveside rites by Parkinson

Post No. 250 American Legion of Lenox.

Pallbearers were Don Miller, Keith James, Benne Miller, Richard Porter, Robert Tipling and Richard Brammer.

Honorary bearers were Dick Gray, Roy Martin, Delmar Haley, Dale Reynolds and Austin Caldwell.

Elmo Reldon Ambrose was born Nov. 19, 1922, in Lenox, son of William and Lizzie Froescher Ambrose. He was a farmer and had

also worked as a welder at the former Tote Co. for over 19 years. He moved from a farm into Lenox in 1975.

On August 22, 1980, he and Erma Smith Wane were married in Lenox.

Mr. Ambrose was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Odd Fellows Lodge and the Lenox Methodist Church. He was also a

member of the Lenox City Council at the time of his death.

He kept active with odd jobs, enjoyed music and playing the fiddle, gardening and his collections of various objects.

He is survived by his wife, Erma, of the home; a son, Mark, Mason City; two daughters, Judy Wilson of Afton and Nancy of

Omaha; his mother, Lizzie, and a brother, Jasper, of Lenox; a sister, Lucille Davis of Corning; five stepchildren, Donna Caldwell of

Missouri Valley, Randall Bond of Pawnee City, Neb., Lloyd Wahe of Baxter, Iowa, Linda Brooks of Glendive, Mont., and Kathy Shinkle

of Greenfield; five grandchildren and nine step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, Amos and Karl, and three wives, Leota, Lois and Maxine.

Andrews, Helen Gwendoline Hunter -

Funeral services were held Dec. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox for Helen Gwendoline Andrews, 87.

She died at Rosary, Hospital in Corning Dec. 19.

Dr. Jack Cutbirth of the Lenox Christian Church officiated and burial was in West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Pallbearers were Roy Beck, Howard Stoaks, Edwin Miller, Kenneth Black, George Reynolds and Julian Walter.

Mrs. Andrews was born Jan. 23, 1898, at New Market, eldest child of Doud and Emma Long Hunter. She attended school in

Conway and was graduated from high school there. She taught school for a year before moving to the west coast, where she was married to John S. Andrews. They were married 46 years prior to his death in 1974.

She was always ready to help where needed, and enjoyed her involvement in the VFW and American Legion auxiliaries. She

also enjoyed her activities with White Shrine and Eastern Star, and was a past president of the Benevolent and Protective Order

of Does, Elks Auxiliary, at Boulder City, Nev. She had been a member of the United Presbyterian Church in San Pedro, Calif.

She leaves a brother, Max Hunter of Gulfport, Miss.; two sisters, Pearl Burns of Lorimor and Daisy Moore of Lenox, and a number

of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Doud Hunter.

Cink, Julie Marie -

Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb.. 7 at St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls, S.D., for Julie Marie Cink, infant daughter of

Judy and Phil Cink of Sioux Falls. She was 1 year and 5 months of age.

The Rev. Al Krzyzopolski was celebrant of the mass and interment was in Berg Cemetery, Renner, S. D.

Dennis Brierly and Richard Notz were pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Mick Bennett, Tom Bennett, Frank Leisinger, Wayne

Petree and Tim Cink.

A Scripture Service was held Feb. 6 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.

The infant was born Aug. 24, 1984, in Sioux Falls.

In addition to her parents, she leaves two sisters, Angle and Kristy of the home; grandparents, Marge Bennett of Lenox and

Mr. and Mrs. Derald Cink of Sioux Falls; great grandmothers, Ruby Cink of Parker, S.D., and Martha Lakings of Viborg, S.D.

Cutbirth, Elizabeth F Wallace -

Funeral services were held at Gauthier Funeral Home in Lenox for Elizabeth F. Cutbirth, 91, who died at the home of her son, Dr.

Jack Cutbirth of Lenox. Dr. Cutbirth, minister of Lenox Christian Church, officiated. Burial was in Rose Lawn Cemetery, at Ft.

Smith, Ark.

Mrs. Cutbirth was born Aug. 31, 1894, in Van Buren, Ark., daughter of William and Mary Smith Wallace. She and LeRoy

Cutbirth were married there in 1916. She resided most of her life in Arkansas, moving to Lenox in February of 1985 to make

her home with her son.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Donaldson, Irene F Phelan -

Funeral services were held at Larkin-Bender Funeral Home in Lenox at 3 p.m. Dec. 27 for Irene F. Donaldson, 93, who died Dec.

22 in Lansdale, Pa.

Sr. Rosemary Moore of Creston officiated and burial was in East Fairview Cemetery at Lenox.

Born Oct. 16, 1892, Mrs. Donaldson was a daughter of Patrick J. and Elizabeth Devereax Phelan, who resided in Conway.

Mrs. Donaldson and her husband, the late Orville W. Donaldson, resided in Phillips, Neb., two years following their marriage.

They moved to Lenox, and she was employed at the Farmers & Merchants Bank until it closed in 1931, when she moved to Amarillo,

Texas, later making her home in California.

She retired from the Railway Express Agency in 1957, and continued to make her home in California until 1970, when she

moved to Devon, Pa., to be near her daughter.

She leaves her daughter, Jeannette Quarles of Devon; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in

death by her parents and husband.

Harmon, Nellie -

Nellie Harmon, 85, died recently in Carson, N. D., where she made her home. She was a sister of Roy Martin and Frances

Stalder, of Lenox.

Services were held at the Carson Presbyterian Church Jan. 25, the Rev. Charles Maxfield officiating. Burial was in the

cemetery at Lark, N. D.

Mrs. Harmon was born Feb. 19, 1910, at Carson.

In addition to Mr. Martin and Ms. Stalder, she is survived by Mrs. George Bahr of Underwood, Minn., Mrs. Luella McContosh

of Whipple, Idaho, Norah Bay of Carson, William Martin of Crescent, Calif.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Martin attended the funeral.

Horton, Grace Short -

Funeral services were held Jan. 6 at United Methodist Church for Grace Horton, 75. She died Jan. 4 at Ringgold County Hospital

in Mt. Ayr.

Burial was in Clearfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Doug Horton, Lynn Christensen, Kenny Larsen, Keith Larsen, Ed Douglas

and Ed Sullivan. The Rev. Duane Ferguson officiated.

She was born July 8, 1910, on a farm near Conway in Taylor County, daughter of William and Matilda Short. She was reared on the family farm, and attended school in the Conway district.

She was united in marriage to William C. Horton July 28, 1930, in Diagonal.

She had resided at a nursing home in Clearfield the past five years.

She was the last surviving member of her family of 10 children.

Her greatest pride and joy were her own children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all

who knew her.

She is survived by two daughters, Cleota Larsen and Kay Douglas; two sons, John and Vernon; nine grandchildren and 12

great grandchildren. All reside in Clearfield except Mrs. Douglas and her family, who make their home in Lenox.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her nine brothers and sisters and a son, Rob.

Kendall, Mary Hazel McKee -

Funeral services were held Dec. 10, 11 a.m., at United Presbyterian Church in Lenox for Mary Hazel Kendall, 82, who died Dec. 7 at

Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs.

The Rev. Don Fisher officiated and burial was in North Grove Cemetery in Clarinda.

Pallbearers were John D. Kendall, William B. Kendall Jr., Christopher M. Kendall, George Walter, Jim Wurster and Wayne McFee.

Born May 12, 1903, at Clarinda, Mrs. Kendall was a daughter of George Mont and Leona Hazel Woods McKee.

She and John Milo Kendall were married Jan. 5, 1935 in St Louis, Mo. They moved to Lenox in 1940, and farmed east of here until retiring and moving to Sunrise Apartments in 1976.

Mrs. Kendall enjoyed homemaking and was employed at Tyler Pharmacy many years. She was a member of the United Presbyterian

Church and UPW, the Federated Women's club and had served as state chairman for the Cancer Society.

As her health failed, she became a constant reader, especially of novels and history. She entered Lenox Care Center last June, then

moved to a home in Council Bluffs in November to be near family members.

She leaves a daughter-in-law, Mariel Kendall of Council Bluffs, a sister-in-law, Ann McKee of Arizona, and five grandchildren. She was

preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Gerald McKee, and her son William.

Kirby, Guy H -

Guy H. Kirby, 86, of Johnstown, Colo., died Dec. 8 at Winson Health Care Center there. He was a brother of Lawrence C.

Kirby of Lenox.

Born March 9, 1899, he and Doris Bicknell were married in Bedford March 5, 1918.

She died Feb. 28, 1923, leaving three sons, Wayne, who now resides in California; Allen of Denver and Dean of Johnstown,

On July 3, 1971, Guy Kirby and Mary E. Lynch of Brighton, Colo. were married. She survives, along with his three sons and his

brother.

Mr. Kirby was a member of the Elks Lodge and the First Baptist Church in Johnstown. Services and burial were there.

Kuipers, Arthur Franklin -

The Rev. James Chiaro and the Rev. Dennis Trausch officiated at a funeral mass Jan. 14 at St. Patrick's Church in Lenox for

Arthur Franklin Kuipers, 65.

Burial was in North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Pallbearers were Ron Fulk, Art Brill, Troy Bauer, Glen Norton, Don Chapman

and George Sweeney.

Mr. Kuipers died Jan. 11 at Bishop Clarkson Memorial Hospital in Omaha.

He was born Sept. 9, 1920, at Manson, Iowa, son, of Frank E. and Margeret Juergens Kuipers. He moved with his family to

Platte, S. D., at the age of three, and when he was 12, the family moved to Danforth, Ill.

He served with the army from 1941 to 1945.

On May 16, 1945, he and Kathryn Ellen Strasma were married at Oilman, Ill. They moved to the Lenox area in 1966 and farmed

here until his retirement.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, as well as a good friend. He took pride in his farming, and loved the

farm to be neat. He was noted for "scaring" his grandchildren with coyote stories, and gave all whom he met a special nickname.

He also enjoyed singing while playing piano, especially "Old Shep." He will leave a special memory in the hearts of all who knew him.

He leaves his wife of the home at Lenox; two daughters, Linda Bauer and Sandra Walter of Lenox; a son, Richard, Council Bluffs;

two brothers, Lawrence of Creston and Duwaine of Oilman, Ill.; a sister, Mildred Hegg of Platte, S. D.; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Roy, and a sister, Helen Walters.

Moore, Wayne W -

Funeral services were held in Corning recently for Wayne W. Moore, 69, who died at his home in Lenox.

The Rev. John Caldwell officiated at the rites at Gauthier Funeral Home in Corning, and burial was in Prairie Rose Cemetery

there.

Mr. Moore was born in Adams County Oct 27, 1916, and had resided in Corning prior to moving to Lenox. He was a farmer and did

electrical work.

He is survived by one son.

Nelson, Marvin J -

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 22 for Marvin J. Nelson, 56, at United Methodist Church in Greene. The Rev. Kent

Kastler officiated and burial was in Rose Hill cemetery in Greene.

Pallbearers were Vern Echelberger, Dwight Barnhart, William Christensen, Glen Shaffer, David Tower and John Barth.

Mr. Nelson died Feb. 18 at his home in Greene.

He was born Nov. 5, 1929, near Lenox, son of Leeman and Ethel Williams Nelson. A graduate of Lenox Community High School in

1946, he had been employed at a service station and as a meat cutter prior to entering the grocery business.

He started in that business at Folsee Grocery in Lenox, working there until 1960, when he moved to Hampton and was employed

by B&W Food Market. In 1963, he moved to Greene to work for B&W, which he co-purchased in 1985, operating it as

C&N Food Market.

He and Janice Kingery were married May 6, 1978, in Greene.

He served on the Greene City Council from 1968 until 1975, and again from 1978 until 1983. He was a member of the Commercial

Club and a past president of the organization. He had also served as an officer of the Round Grove Country Club, was a member of

the Quarterback Club and of the United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee.

He leaves his wife, Janice, of the home; three sons, Mark of Elizabeth City, N.C., Phillip of Great Lakes Naval Base, Chicago, and

Stacey of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Georgia Toma of Eagle Lake, Minn., and Lynne Hulseman of Dike; his mother, Ethel Nelson of Lenox; four brothers, Lyle and Dale of Lenox, George of Sharpsburg and Ronnie of Clearfield; two sisters, Lela Duke of Oregon

City, Ore., and Betty Yount of Osceola; and eight grandchildren.

Smith, Dale Laverne -

Funeral services were held Jan. 28 in Diagonal for Dale L. Smith, 62, who died Jan. 24 at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He had

been ill for some time.

The Rev. Eydie Deal officiated. Burial was in Garden Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bert Smith, L. D. Rose, Robert Rose, Clifford Rose, Jack Stephens and Virgil Miller.

Honorary pallbearers were Leo Linkey, Cecil Smith, R. A. Beymer and A. J. Kessler.

Graveside rites were by Point Le Grove Legion Post No. 450.

Dale Laverne Smith was born Aug. 17, 1923, on a farm in Wayne County, Iowa. He was reared in that county, and was graduated

from Garden Grove High School in 1942. He was a Marine Veteran of World War II and a farmer.

He moved into Garden Grove with his patents in 1962.

On May 23, 1964, he and Velda Duke were married, and in 1970 they moved to Diagonal, where they operated Diagonal

Snooker. As his health continued to fail, they sold the business in 1984 and moved to Lenox, then to Prescott.

He was a quiet, warm man who extended the hand of friendship to all. He was a lifetime members of the Veterans of Foreign

Wars, a member of the American Legion and of the Order of Masons.

He leaves his wife of the home in Prescott; a brother, Eldon, Humeston; and a number of nieces and nephews. He also leaves an

aunt and uncle, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Cecil Smith, and a step-brother, William Lee Logan.

Welch, Lena Martha Harden -

Funeral services for Lena Martha Welch, 76, were held Feb. 14, 10:30 a.m., at the Lenox First Christian Church, Dr. Jack Cutbirth

and Don Jensen officiating. Burial was in West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Welch, who died Feb. 12 at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, were Dan Harden, Terry Haley, Doug Wambold,

Keith Wambold, Rick Shepherd and Eugene Chappell.

She was born Feb. 22, 1909, daughter of Roscoe James and Ella Ballantyne Harden. She moved with her family from her birthplace

near Corning to a farm near Sharpsburg in 1913. Her mother died when Mrs. Welch was 7, and she and her brother and-sisters were reared by their father.

Mrs. Welch was graduated from high school in Lenox in 1927 and taught several years

She and Harold Welch were married Dec. 25, 1928, at the home of her father. They farmed west of Lenox 47 years, moving into

Lenox in 1975.

She was an active member of the Christian Church, and had taught Sunday school. She was also a former 4-H leader and a member

of Salome Chapter OES.

She had a special love and pride for each member of her family.

She leaves her husband, Harold, of the home in Lenox; a daughter, Twila Jean Shepherd of LaVista, Neb.; a son, Eugene Harold

Welch of Lenox; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Arthur, and two sisters, Helen Beck and Faye Harden.

Wilson, Kenneth Chester -

Funeral services were held Feb. 5, 1:30 p.m., at Cutler Funeral Chapel in Council Bluffs for Kenneth Chester Wilson, 63, former area

resident. Mr. Wilson died Feb. 1 at the Omaha VA Hospital.

The Rev. Robert Babcock of the Council Bluffs First Christian Church officiated and burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery there.

Pallbearers were Michael Wilson and Rodney Kading of Council Bluffs, Craig Wilson of Omaha, Harlan Davenport of Marshalltown,

Kevin Elwood of Glenwood and Alvin Gaule of Lenox.

Kenneth Chester Wilson was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Hastings, Iowa, and later came to this area. He was graduated from high school

in Conway in 1942.

He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.

Oct. 4, 1945, he and Beulah Lane of Clearfield were married, and they moved to Council Bluffs in 1946.

He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad 27 years, retiring in 1979 when his health failed. He had also worked at the Ice

Docks in Council Bluffs, and prior to World War II, at Garst Oil Co. in Conway.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway, Airline and Steamship Clerks, the American Legion, Rainbow Post No. 2 of

Council Bluffs.

He was known as "Short" to his friends in this area. He loved his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah of the home in Council Bluffs; two sons, Larry of Long Beach, Miss., and Dennis of Council

Bluffs; a daughter, Janis Marshall of Spokane, Wash.; two brothers, Loyd of Council Bluffs and Lynn of Omaha; two sisters,

Mrs. Opal Hayworth and Mrs. Ruby Reynolds of Council Bluffs; and eight grandchildren. He also leaves a number of nieces and

nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Leroy and Mabel Colwell Wilson, and two brothers, Boyd and Ray Wilson.
