LADY LOSES liFE IN VAIN ATTEMPTTO SAVE A HORSE

MRS. CARROL INGRAM, NEAR NEW MARKET, LOST LIFE in BARN FIRE.

ALONE AT THE TIME

Neighbors discovered the Barn in Flames. Husband Was Working Nearby.

Mrs. Carrol Ingram, residing two miles west and three miles south of New Market, lost her life last Monday, when she attempted to free a horse tied in the burning barn on the place.

About ten o'clock in the morning three neighbors, working a short distance from the place, discovered the barn to be in flames. They came to the burning building at once, and summoned Mr. Ingram, who was working just over the hill from the house. When he arrived he started a search for his wife, and found their nine months old baby girl in the house.

A search about the place revealed that his wife was no place about, and by the time that the searchers realized that she was in the burning building, the barn was entirely ablaze.

Shortly after the neighbors arrived the horse, which was tied in the barn, jumped through an open doorway. Its eyes were burned out, its ears burned off, and it was killed at once to relieve its great suffering.

As soon as possible, the glowing embers were cooled off enough to allow workers to enter the ruins of the barn, and the charred body of Mrs. Ingram was found at a spot near where the horse had been tied. The remains were not recognizable, and were taken to an undertaking establishment in Clarinda.

It is generally believed that the horse was untied by the lady, and that in its fright it jumped against her, rendering her unconscious or injuring her so that she was unable to escape the flames.

Mrs. Ingram was well known in Bedford, and is a sister of Mrs. Riley Catuska of this city.

Mr. Ingram has the sincere sympathy of the entire community in his bereavement.

Obituary - Ruby Elizabeth Crawford

Ruby Elizabeth Crawford, daughter of Samuel [James] and Lizzie [Elizabeth Leora Alexander] Crawford, was born in Taylor County, Iowa, October 22, 1899, and departed this life May 18, 1925, aged 25 years, 6 months and 26 days.

February 8, 1922, she was united in marriage to Carroll Ingram and to them was born one daughter [Chrystal Lavaunne], now almost nine months of age. Mrs. Ingram's home had always been near New Market where she was born and raised to maturity, and where she was known and respected by everyone. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, a good neighbor, always ready to extend a helping hand to anyone who needed assistance. Her life was filled with good deeds and kindly acts and it can be truthfully said the world has been made better by her having lived.

Although she never united with any church she was a firm believer in Christianity and her trust was placed in her Redeemer. She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, baby, mother, three sisters, Mrs. Iowa Catuska of Bedford, Mrs. Ella Hills, of Linneus, Mo., Mrs. Anna Ginther of Linneus, Mo., also six brothers, Oren, Dennis, George and Howard of New Market, Ledger of Bedford and Cecil of Clarinda, besides a number of neighbors and friends. Her father and two sisters have preceded her in death. Although she is gone from our sight we will not forget her sweet lessons of love and purity which comfort our hearts, with the thought that though she cannot return to us, we may go to her and abide in the land where there is no departing; and with all our grief and sorrow we look to Him who doeth all things well. "Thy way, Thy will be done."
