C. E. Bradley Rites April 10
C. E. Bradley, 73, banker in Gravity and Clarinda for 50 years, died April 8 at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital after an illness of recent weeks.
The funeral service was held April 10 at the First Methodist church in Clarinda, the Rev. John Beebout officiating, with Masonic graveside service at Clarinda cemetery.
Charles Ellis Bradley was born near Siam in Taylor County on April 10, 1891, son of Alonzo S.[mith] and Clara Bell (Stewart) Bradley. He attended the Gravity schools, and following graduation taught school for over four years. Friends recall him working at farming and in the bank at Gravity. In 1917 he entered the Page County State Bank where he served for over 46 years and retired as president, which position he held after 1946.
He was married to Lola Fisher in Gravity on Aug. 28, 1912. His wife and their three children survive him.
The children are Mrs. R. S. (Mary Louise) Lathrop of Whittier, Calif., Mrs. B. [ernard] G. [ilbert] (Joanne) Shaulis of Philadelphia, Pa., and Byron F. [isher] Bradley of West Covina, Calif. Two sisters are Mrs. Cecil (Ada) Morgan of Gravity, and Mrs. Stella Posten of Des Moines. The Bradleys have 10 grandchildren and one great grandson.

Oscar Cerven's Brother Dies
Funeral services for Harold E. Cerven, 56, of Stanton, were held Jan. 31 from the Mamrelund Lutheran church at Stanton, with the Rev. Francis Johnson officiating. The Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Cerven, who was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran church of Stanton, died Jan. 29 of a heart attack at his farm home.
The son of Olaf and Anna [Larson] Cerven, he was born March 31, 1906, and was married in 1942 to Opal Ruth Penwell, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Karen and Betty Anna, both at home; two brothers, Leslie of Villisca and Oscar, Bedford; four sisters, Mrs. Esther Bearden of Sun City, Arizona, Mrs. Hilma Hecke of Omaha, Mrs. Mabel Mongerson of Omaha and Mrs. Minnie Anderson of Red Oak.

Warren Conner Rites Aug. 27
Funeral services for Warren [Sumner] Conner, 66, of Cumberland, Ia., formerly of Bedford, were held at Sacred Heart Church in Cumberland August 27. Mr. Conner died Aug. 24 at Archbishop Bergen Hospital in Omaha. Interment was at the Atlantic Cemetery.
Warren [Sumner] Conner, son of James and Mary Conner, was born Nov. 26, 1899 in Taylor county. He attended the Bedford schools.
For more than 40 years he owned and operated a produce store in Cumberland.
His father, mother, sisters Florence and Alice and brother George preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Maude; sons, Jack who teaches at Iowa City, and Gene, teacher at Shelbyville, Miss.; daughter, Judy Gerlock of Omaha; two sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Hullinger and Frances Conner, Bedford; two brothers, Ansel Conner of Bedford and Allen Conner of New Virginia, Ia.
Among relatives attending the service were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hullinger, Frances Conner, Ansel Conner, Mrs. Mary Marshall of Bedford; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hullinger of Elliott, Ia.; and Glade Hullinger of St. Joseph.

Harold Coulthard
Harold J. [ohn] Coulthard, a resident of Brush, Colo., for the past 35 years, died Wednesday, May 3 at the Logan county hospital in Sterling, Colo., where he had been a patient for several months.
Harold was born in Gravity, Ia., on August 5, 1902. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn [Awmiller] of Brush, Colo.; one son, Donald of Farmington, New Mexico, two brothers, George of Mt. Ayr, Ia., and John of Kansas City, Mo. Three grandchildren also survive.
Harold was employed as custodian of the Brush Central School.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 5, at the Brush Methodist church at 2 p. m. with Rev. Robert L. Morgan officiating. Interment was in the Brush Memorial cemetery.

Lawrence Fine Rites Aug. 25
Funeral services for Lawrence [Lee] Fine, 32, of Sheridan were held Aug. 25 at the Sheridan Methodist Church with Rev. Ted Reed and Rev. Cleo Colville, local minister, officiating. Mr. Fine died Aug. 23 at the Veterans Hospital in Kansas City. Interment was at the Sheridan Cemetery.
He was a member of the Sheridan Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Fine, and grandmother, Mrs. Iva Nigh of Sheridan.

Military services for Joe Hawk, 20, were held Oct. 12, at Wheatland, Wyoming. Mr. Hawk died Oct. 9 at the Veterans Hospital in Cheyenne, Wyo. He had been flown from the Philippines to San Francisco and transferred to Cheyenne.
Joe Hawk, son of Mr and Mrs. Ben Hawk, was born near Sheridan, Mo.
He is survived by his parents, two sisters, one half sister and two half brothers.
Several relatives went to Wheatland for the services.

C. C. Hill Rites Held Wednesday
Funeral services for Clarence Clinton Hill of Gravity were held Wednesday, Sept.1 at the west Shum-Novinger Funeral Home here with Rev. J. Milton Kinney officiating. Mr. Hill died Aug. 29 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital. Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon C. Hill and grandson, Robert Hill of Bedford; and a sister, Mary Hill, of Gravity.

Final Rites For Bill Hill
Funeral services for Clarence Clinton Hill, long time Gravity resident, held Sept. 1 at the west Shum-Novinger Funeral Home, were conducted by Rev. J. Milton Kinney, local Methodist minister. Mr. Hill died at Clarinda Municipal Hospital Aug. 29, 1965, at the age of 80 years, seven months and 20 days. Fraternal honors by Sunlight Lodge A. F. & A. M. were conducted at Washington Cemetery, Gravity, Iowa.
C. C. Hill, son of J. C. and Emma Hill, was born near Viola, Ill., on Jan. 9, 1885.
He moved to Taylor County, Iowa, when he was 15, and resided in and around Gravity, Iowa, since that time.
He and Geraldine Miller were united in marriage on Sept. 26, 1914. To this union one son, Gordon C. Hill, was born.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of Gravity; his son, Gordon C. Hill of Bedford, his daughter-in-law, Irma, of Bedford; his grandson, Bob, of Bedford; his sister, Mary, of Gravity, and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clyde Hill.
At an early age he was baptized and became a member of the Methodist church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, joining in 1916. He served as master at three different times.
He was an active community worker in his younger days, but was forced to limit his activities in later years due to failing health. He was interested in and participated in many kinds of sports.
“Bill,” as he was known by his friends, operated an auto repair business for over 50 years. He grew up with the automobile.

Duane Kettle Killed In Tractor Mishap
Funeral services for Duane Kettle, 28, of Blockton were held August 6 at the Blockton Methodist Church with Rev. Clarence H. Landis officiating. Mr. Kettle was killed August 3 in a tractor accident about 5:45 p.m. near Blockton. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.
Duane Merritt Kettle, son of Byron Levi and Ida Marie [Tennant] Kettle was born Feb. 16, 1937, near Blockton, Iowa.
He was married Aug. 23, 1959 to Myrna Mae Driskill of Leon, Iowa. To them were born two sons, Robert Duane and Allen Gregory.
He attended NWM State College at Maryville for one year.
Duane was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Blockton.
He served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Devens, Mass., and Two Rock Ranch Station, Calif., as an Army Security Agent and received an honorable discharge at the end of one year and 9 months.
Survivors are his wife, two sons, Robert Duane, 4, and Allen Gregory, 15 months; his parents, Byron and Marie Kettle; three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kettle, Mrs. Beda Smith, and mother-in-law, Mrs. Bertha Driskill of Leon; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; two nephews; one niece, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Preceding him in death were his infant brother, Charles David, and a grandfather, David Tennant.
He was a kind and loving husband and father and a good neighbor and will be missed by all.
His entire life was lived around Blockton except for the time spent in the Army. He was a member of the Blockton Methodist Church, joining on Jan. 25, 1959, with his parents and grandparents.
Duane will long be remembered by all who knew him for his kindnesses to each and everyone he met.

Georgia E. King Rites Aug. 28
Funeral services for Georgia Ellen [Albaugh] King, 91, long time Blockton resident, were held Aug. 28 at the Blockton Christian Church conducted by Rev. James Ferris and Rev. Bobby Pinkerton. Mrs. King died Aug. 25, 1965, in the Arthur King home where she had been cared for during her declining years. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.

Tribute Paid Georgia E. King At Final Rites
Final rites for Mrs. Georgia Ellen King, 91, were held in Blockton, Aug. 28 conducted by Rev. James Ferris and Rev. Bobby Pinkerton. Mrs. King, of courageous pioneer stock, died Aug. 25 in the Arthur King home where she had been cared for during her declining years. Burial was at Blockton's Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Georgia E. [llen] King, daughter of Mr and Mrs. H. [erbert] H. [arold] Albaugh, was born Jan. 16, 1874, in Clark Co. Mo. Following the death of her mother [Jemimah Prudence George], Georgia, at 12, moved with her father to Platteville, Ia.
During her 16th and 17th years Georgia attended Blockton High School, being one of the first graduates of a two-year high school. Her talents included elocution. She delivered orations at public gatherings and until recently could recite many dramatic readings learned long ago As she was growing up she rode her own horse, did stunt riding, drove trotting horses including her father's mare, Dolly Varden, which her father later sold for $1,100.00.
On June 2, at 18, she married Percy E King, son of David and Malinda Sickels King. To this union were born six children: Earl [Leslie], of Gravity; Ernest [Everett] of Blockton; Lea and Leo, twins, died at about 2 1/2 years of age; Marie Boyd George, of Greenfield, Calif; Arthur, of Blockton. There are eight grandchildren: Quentin and Robert King, sons of Earl and Mollie [Stewart] King; Everett King, son of Ernest and Reva King; Norma and Larry Boyd, daughter and son of Marie and Loicen Boyd; Jeanette [Elaine] Huff, Charles and Jerry King, children of Arthur and Lavelle [Kuhn] King. Other survivors include 14 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Georgia King was a member of the Christian Church. She belonged to and was an energetic worker in the Ladies Aid Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Neighborhood Club. In addition to her family, Mrs. King's main interests were in gardening, raising fruits and bee keeping.
The memory of this honest pioneer woman who lived on the same farmstead for 73 years will be cherished by her kin and friends who will remember her worthy examples of calmness, patience, decency and fair play.

Olivia E. Miller Rites Aug. 28
Graveside services for Olivia E. Miller of Bedford were held alt Fairview Cemetery, Bedford, Aug. 28 with Carl Cummings officiating. Miss Miller died in Bedford Aug. 26, 1965 at the age of 94 years, nine months and 25 days.
Olivia E. Miller, daughter of George R. and Sara Campbell Miller was born Nov. 1, 1870 in Jasper County, Iowa.
She moved with her parents to this county when she was a young child and the family lived on a farm west of Bedford for a number of years. Here she grew to adulthood, later moving to Sully and Marshalltown, Iowa where she lived until during the last twenty years she moved to Bedford to reside with a sister, Mrs. Livia E. [lizabeth] Campbell who with other members of her family preceded her in death.
Her near relatives are a nephew, Darwin Campbell, and his sisters, Bertha and Dorothy, who are nieces, and several cousins.
She was gentle and helpful always to those about her, and wiling to accept without murmur each day with its joys and its sorrows.
She had lived a long time and enjoyed life at its best and her many friends will long remember the example she gave to the world in the life she lived.
She will be missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Mary [Belle Bosisto] Cundy and Mrs. Etta Smith went to Tabor Sunday to attend the funeral of their brother-in-law, Rev. A. [rthur] K. [yahny] Myattway, who died in Indiana a few days ago. Mrs. Cundy, who now resides near Artesian, South Dakota, was visiting with relatives in this vicinity.

Rev. A. [rthur] K. [yahny] Myattway of Tabor, formerly of this place, died at Akron, Ind., last Friday morning and the remains were taken to Tabor on last Sunday. Rev. Myattway was married a number of years ago to Miss Emma Bosisto, daughter of Rev. Joseph Bosisto, deceased, and will be remembered by a number of our Corning citizens. The following account of his life and death has been furnished us:
Rev. Arthur Kyahny Myattway, a [word unreadable] Karen, was born in Rangoon, Burma, Jan. 13, 1857. His parents were converted and baptized by the missionary Rev. J. B. Vinton before Mr. MyattwayÕs birth, and he gave his heart to Christ in early boyhood and was baptized by the same missionary, Vinton. He left his native land Oct. 23, 1875 in company with J. B. Vinton, a brother and one cousin and arrived in New York City, N. Y., Jan. 13, 1876, on his birthday. He entered Colgate Academy, Hamilton, N. Y., Jan. 22, 1876, graduated from same June 1879. Entered Madison University (now Colgate University) Sept. 1879, and graduated from same June 27, 1883, transferred to Chicago Baptist theological Seminary at Morgan Park, Sept. 1883, and graduated from same May, 1886. Has labored faithfully in pastoral work in Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri from 1896 to 1905. Rev. A. [rthur] K. [yahny] Myattway has been laboring in Ohio and Indiana the past 11 months. He died in Akron, Indiana, Aug. 19, 1909, at the M. E. pastors home at the age of 52 years. After a most beautiful and touching service at the M. E. church there the wife brought the body to their home at Tabor, Ia. After another service there the friends took the body to Clarinda for burial where they were met again by a host of sympathizing friends. Mr. Myattway was married to Miss Frances T. [heresa] Hunt Oct. 7, 1887, at Fremont, Neb., by Rev. R. M. T. Branen. Mrs. Myattway died April 13, 1890, at Clarinda, Iowa. He married his present wife, Miss Emma Bosisto at Corning, Iowa, April 15, 1891, who, with two children, Frances Emma and Arthur Roosevelt are left to mourn their loss. Those present at the funeral from a distance were Mrs. MyattwayÕs two sisters, Mrs. Mary [Belle Bosisto] Cundy of Artesian, S. D., and Mrs. Henrietta Smith of Corning, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Harrison of Sidney, Iowa.

BURIAL OF REV. MYATTWAY.
Native of India Who Had Achieved American Education.
Tabor. —The funeral of Rev. Arthur K. [yahny] Myattway occurred at his Tabor home Monday morning at 7 o'clock, Rev. E. H. Harrison of Sidney officiating. The deceased was a native of India, having been born in the city of Rangoon, Burma, in January 1857. At the early age of 14 he was converted to Christianity and came to America when 19 years old, and took a nine years course in college and seminary, graduating from Hamilton college at Colgate, Canada. He held various pastorates, having been pastor of the Baptist church in Tabor for some time before the latter ceased to hold services.
Much of his time for years past was devoted to giving public lectures concerning his native land and the habits and customs of the people.
Failing health during the summer caused him to seek rest at Lake Winona, Ind., his death from tuberculosis occurring at Akron, Ind., August l9. After the funeral at Tabor the sorrowing family and relatives took the body to Clarinda for interment beside those of his first wife [Frances Theresa Hunt] and child.
Mr. Myattway is survived by his widow [Emma Bosisto] and two children, Frances Emma, age 10 years and Arthur [Roosevelt], aged 4.

L. Otis Padgett Rites Monday
Graveside services for Louis O. [tis] Padgett, 42, former Bedford resident, were held Aug. 23 at Fairview Cemetery in Bedford, conducted by Rev. John D. Kerr, following services in Kansas City. Mr. Padgett died August 20, 1965 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Kansas City.
Louis O. [tis] Padgett was born August 23, 1922, in Plainview, Arkansas, the oldest child of Oliver and Letha Padgett. He lived in Plainview until 1940 when he moved to Bedford, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1942.
On December 27, 1942 he was married to Ruth E. Paul of Bedford in Hopkins, Mo. To this union three children were born: Barbara Ruth, age 17; Paul Louis, 13; and Marilyn Sue, 12.
In 1944 Louis Padgett joined the Navy, and he was discharged in 1945. He entered the University of Nebraska in 1946 and graduated in 1950. The family lived in Topeka, Kans., for six years, moving to Kansas City, Mo. in 1956. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Bendix Corporation.
He was preceded in death by his father in April 1963.
He is survived by his wife and three children of the home; his mother, Mrs. Retha [Letha] Padgett of Plainview, Ark.; brothers, William E. Padgett of Tulsa, Okla., Chief Warrant Officer James O. Padgett of Fort Hood, Texas, and Elmer V. Padgett of Little Rock, Ark., and a sister, Mrs. Irby Colbert of Little Rock. Ark.

Waite Phillips Dies in Calif.
Lewis Walker has received word of the death of his uncle, Waite Phillips, 81, at Los Angeles, which occurred Jan. 27. His heart condition had been bad for several years.
The Phillips family was originally of the Conway vicinity, the two brothers, Frank and Waite, founding the Phillips 66 oil industry. Waite was known nationally as donor of the Philmont wilderness ranch to the Boy Scouts of America.
His wife and son, Elliott, are in California, his daughter having died last summer. Also surviving are a brother, Fred Phillips of Tulsa, Okla., two sisters, Mrs. Johnson (Lura) Hill, Tulsa, and Mrs. Nellie Walker of Omaha; a niece, Mrs. Jessie Johnson, Clarinda.

P. E. Thompson Rites Wednesday
Funeral services for Phillip Erwin Thompson were held at the First Baptist Church in Hopkins, Mo. yesterday (Oct 21), with Rev. Eugene Hays officiating. Mr. Thompson died Oct. 19 at Veterans Hospital in Omaha. Military honors conducted by the American Legion and interment were held at the Hopkins Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson was a son of Floyd Thompson of Bedford.

Ernest Marvin Uehling
Ernest Marvin Uehling, son of Joseph [George] and Bertha [Augusta Lotzien] Uehling, was born in Cherry County, Nebr. on April 28, 1913 and passed away at Corning, Iowa on May 11, 1961 at the age of 43 years and 13 days.
He lived in Cherry County, Nebr. near Wood Lake until 1931 at which time the family moved to Taylor County, Lenox vicinity, and it was in Corning that he spent the remainder of his life. He had presently been employed in the Corning area.
On May 8, 1943 he was united in marriage to Miss [Mary] Irene Yarrington. Left to mourn his passing are his beloved wife, Irene; three brothers, Delmar [Joseph] of Corning, Leland and Joseph of Chehalis, Wash.; seven sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Hollinger of Centralia, Wash., Mrs. Marie Ramacher, Mrs. Irma Voss and Mrs. Ellen Crisp of Chehalis, Wash., Mrs. Mable Young of Winlock, Wash., Mrs. Hattie Schafroth, Mrs. Bernadean [Bernadine] Miller of Corning, Iowa; also a great number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father on March 1, 1939 and his mother March 16, 1958.
Ernest was a devoted and loving husband and will be greatly missed by his wife and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 15, 1961 at 2 p. m. from the Roland Funeral Home in Corning with Rev. Dan Adams officiating. Music was by Leo Caskey and Mrs. Joe Cook. Pallbearers were Jean Brown, Glen Miller, Bernard Miller, Edward Huntington, Leonard Adams and Owen Schafroth. Interment was in Walnut Grove cemetery.

JOE UEHLiNG DIES
Wife and Eleven Children Survive—Bury at Hooper, Nebr.
Funeral services were held Friday morning for Joe [Joseph George] Uehling, 55, at the Barber Funeral Home.
Mr. Uehling passed away at his home Tuesday evening about 8 o'clock. He had been feeling as well as usual and after supper was sitting in a chair reading a paper when his death occurred. He is survived by his wife and eleven children.
The body was taken to Hooper, Nebr., for burial.

Uehling Rites Held in Lenox
Funeral services were held Friday from the Barber chapel in Lenox for Joe [Joseph George] Uehling who died suddenly Tuesday at his home. He was 55 years of age.
He leaves his widow and eleven children.
Following the rites the body was taken to Hooper, Nebraska for interment.
