Obituary of William Gray Meredith

Died, at his residence in Holt Township, Taylor County, Iowa, September 29th, at six o'clock a. m., Mr. William G. [ray] Meredith, aged fifty-four years, five months and twenty-nine days. The deceased was born in Bourbon county, Kentucky, April 1st 1824, where he resided for ten years, when he removed with his parents to Rush County, Indiana, where he remained until 1856, when he removed to this county and settled in Mason Township. After residing there for several years he purchased the tract of land in Holt Township on which he resided at the time of his death. Under his careful management the raw tract was soon developed into a valuable farm. In 1865 he was called upon to mourn the loss of his wife, a most estimable woman, who left a large family of small children, the care of which devolved in a great measure upon himself. Some weeks ago he was seized with the belief that he was soon to die, and expressed the thought to several of his friends. About three weeks since he was attacked by a severe illness which terminated in typhoid fever and ended his life. As a citizen he was without reproach, as a neighbor there were none better, as a father, his care of the young family left in his charge, entitles him to all honor. In all the relations of life he leaves a record that is without blot, a shining example to his earthly companions and a guide to them in the better way. He was not a member of any Church, although brought up in a Presbyterian family, yet he was a good man and a firm believer in Christ. During his last illness he greatly regretted that he had not connected himself with a Church organization. He died trusting in Christ for salvation. There are good Christian people outside of all the Churches, and some very bad people in them. Church membership is a good thing and is everybody's duty, but it is not essential to salvation. "Other sheep I have which are not of this fold." The funeral sermon was preached at the school house in the district where the deceased had resided, at eleven o'clock a.m., on Monday last, by the Rev. R. A. McKinley after which a large concourse of friends followed the remains to their last resting place in the cemetery at Brushy.

Obituary

Miss Emily W. McGoldrick was born in Lancaster, Mo., Dec. 19, 1849, and died at her home in Bedford on Friday, April 6, 1907.

Early in life she united with the Christian church and has since been a faithful and consistent member.  On October 30, 1879, she was united in marriage at the home of her parents in Lancaster, Mo., to Mr. Robert F. [ranklin] Larison, of this city, and they immediately moved here and have since made this their home.  To this happy union three children came to brighten their lives, all of whom are living and are at home.  They are Jesse, Bessie and Gertrude.

This once happy home that has been so saddened by death, was presided over by a good, true, loving wife and mother.  No greater tribute could be paid to any woman than this, for when that is said it implies self-sacrifice, affection, and all that is beautiful in the home and in the mother.  Her womanly grace and Christian spirit won for her the friendship of all with whom she came in contact.  Although an invalid, suffering pain for the past seven years, she did it uncomplainingly and with Christian fortitude.  Her home was her realm where she reigned as queen.  Her family was her pride and love.  There she will be sadly missed and mourned, and the bereaved husband and children have the sympathy of all in their hour of sorrow.

She had been suffering with heart trouble but she was bedfast only a week, brought on by a recent attack of la grippe.

The funeral was held at the Christian church on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Elder Edgar Price, assisted by Rev. A. I. Jones.  Interment followed in the Bedford cemetery.

The deceased was the wife of Robert Larison and for many years has resided in this vicinity. She was a woman of noble character, a neighbor of whom all spoke in words of highest praise, a devoted mother and loving wife.
During her many years residence here her circle of acquaintances has become large and each who knew her was her friend and in the hearts of all is a feeling of most sincere sympathy for the bereaved husband and sorrowing children who are left to mourn the loss of her they loved so well.

She was the faithful mother of five children, who remain to call her "Blessed":

George H., Colorado; Mrs. Etta Miller, Pickering, Mo., Mrs. Maude Barnes, Charles, and Mrs. Blanche Dougherty of Bedford.  Four grandchildren and a number of other relatives, nieces, nephews and cousins add to her large circle of relations.

When about seventeen years old deceased made a public profession of faith in Christ as her Lord and united with the First Baptist Church of this place, remaining in their fellowship till her departure for the Sun-lit land of the soul.

She has been in declining health for some years past but rather hastily obeyed the summons beyond from her home in Bedford Friday, Nov. 8, 1918, the whole community being greatly surprised to learn of her decease.

Thus came to an end the earthly career of this good citizen, fond mother, faithful companion, earnest Christian, patient sufferer, having attained the age of 65 years, 10 months, 22 days.

Sister Roe has been a long time resident of the community and by her congenial spirit and womanly graces has added many friends to her list who will miss her from their midst.

To the grief stricken companion and family---we commend you to the savior of her youth and maturer years for comfort and consolation.
