[Paul Clarence Thompson]

Paul Thompson

Funeral services for Paul Thompson were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1993, at the Novinger-Taylor Funeral Home in Bedford, Iowa, with Rev. Ted DeHass officiating.  Interment was at Fairview Cemetery in Bedford.

Paul Clarence Thompson, son of Elmer Clarence and May Belle Wells Thompson, was born in Ross Township, Taylor County, Iowa, on November 25, 1902, and departed this life on January 30, 1993, at the Bedford Manor, Bedford, Iowa, at the age of 90 years.

He lived in Taylor County and grew to maturity in Taylor County where he attended the public school and Maple Grove Church.

On February 27, 1926, Paul was united in marriage to Opal Marie Thummel at Bedford, Iowa, and they lived around Bedford and Hopkins, Mo.  This marks nearly 67 years of married life.

To this union four children were born: two sons, Donald and Tommy Thompson; two daughters, Beverly (Mrs. Wayne) Duncan and Mary Jo (Mrs. Robert) Sleep.

Paul was a farmer and a person involved in many activities.

In April 1960, he and several men from this area went on the Pony Express Ride, carrying mail from St. Joseph, Mo. to Salt Lake City, Utah.

He drilled with the Taylor County Sheriff's Posse at Oklahoma State Prison, McAlester, Okla.

He served as president of the Farm Bureau.  He was on the Federal Land Bank board, served as SCS commissioner, and served as secretary of the Board of Directors for the Farmers Co-op Elevator for 25 years.

Paul was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers, Ronald, Doyle and Claude; his two sisters (Opal and Eileen Rosenthal (Opal, a twin of Eileen, died in infancy).

There have been six sets of twins in this family, three sets living.

He is survived by his wife, Opal; son, Donald and wife Margaret; son, Tommy and wife Jan; daughter, Beverly Duncan and husband, Wayne; daughter, Mary Jo Sleep and husband, Robert; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, Naomi Thomas and Wilma Thomas of Bedford; nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends and other relatives.

Mrs. Williamson Buried At Gravity

Funeral services for Mrs. Bruce Williamson, who died at the O'Dell Rest Home in Bedford on April 15, were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home, Thursday afternoon, April 17.  Rev. A. V. Hart of Hopkins officiated.  Burial was in Gravity cemetery.

Lillian Edna Boyer, daughter of Sarah Jeanette [Mechem] and Spencer Boyer, was born Dec. 29, 1880 at Clarion, Iowa, and died at the age of 77 years, three months, 16 days.  When a young woman she moved with her family to Taylor County, Iowa.

On February 27, 1902, she was united in marriage to Bruce Williamson and to them were born four children.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Leila Henry of Martin, South Dakota, Mrs. Gladys Van Alstine of Glenwood, Iowa; two sons, Max Williamson of White Salmon, Washington, and Donald Williamson of Bedford.  There are four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  Also three sisters, Mrs. Eva Buswell of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Myrtle Kent of Kansas City, and a twin sister, Mrs. Lois Houk of Des Moines.

Obituary - Osta A. Amrine

Osta A. Kemery, daughter of Benjamin [Franklin] and Anna [Allcott] Kemery, was born Jan. 1, 1880, in Taylor County, Iowa, and died at the home of her son, Stephen Amrine, in Blockton, Feb. 24, 1953, at the age of 73 years, one month, 24 days.

She has two sisters and a brother remaining in her immediate family.

Mrs. Rose Bothel of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Georgia Ford of Blockton and Floyd Kemery of Detroit, Mich., as well as an aunt, Miss Anna Kemery, of Bedford.

Most of her life was spent in and near the Taylor County area, where she was a rural schoolteacher for many years, both before and after her marriage to Frank S. Amrine of Conway in 1904.  He preceded her in death in 1948.

Of their six children, four survive and were with her when she departed this life:  Archie of Kansas City, Kans., Ula of Wichita, Kans., Stephen, of Blockton, Delbert of Ojai, Calif.  There are eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She first joined the Baptist church, but when they moved to Blockton, in 1913, she joined the Christian church there.

CHARLES B. MARTIN 83, DIED SUNDAY

Aged Resident Had Lived at Madison County Home Past 10 Years

Charles B. [laine] Martin, a resident of the Madison County home for the past 10 years, died Sunday [March 29] at the age of 83 years. He had lived most of his life in Iowa.

Mr. Martin was born Aug. 5, 1887 [October 5 1858], the son of Hiram and Olive [Grandy] Martin. In 1884 he was married to Ann [a Sarah] Gilbert, whose death occurred in 1903 [June 17, 1904]. A few years later he married a second time. He was the father of several children by both marriages.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Reed Kessler of the Pitzer church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
