Grandson Killed In Auto Accident

Wayne McCurdy, 14, a grandson of Mrs. C. W. Gilleland of Bedford, was killed in an accident recently, as he was going to school on his bicycle and was struck by an automobile.  The child's' home was in Twin Falls, Idaho.  The body was taken to Lebanon, Mo., where the funeral services were held today.

Mr. and Mrs. Gilleland and Mrs. Theron Keith [Opal McCurdy] went to Lebanon to attend the services.  They were accompanied by the child's' father, Guy McCurdy of Savage, Mont., and Charles McCurdy of Lincoln, Nebr.

Siam Man Dies After Long Illness

M. [ilton] W. [eston] Miller, 81, a resident of the Siam community for many years, died at the home his son, John Miller, Tuesday, Nov. 16.

The funeral services were held at the Christian church in Siam at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. Max Buck of Bedford.

He is survived by one daughter and two sons, Mrs. Lola Reid, John Miller and William W. Miller of the Siam community.

Sarah B. King

Sarah B. King, daughter of W. M. P. and Hannah [Pope] Long, was born Dec. 30^th, 1843, at Greencastle, Ind., and died at her home in Lincoln, Nebr., on Dec. 23, 1926, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 23 days.  She came with the family to Chariton, Iowa, in 1854, and then three years later to Taylor County.  On September 16, 1871, she was united in marriage to M. [artin] V. King, at Bedford, Iowa.  In early life she joined the Methodist Episcopal Church and was a faithful and consistent member.  Oran King of Sacramento, Calif. [stepson], Roy King of Carrol, Neb., Mrs. Ethel Bradford and Carrie King, of Lincoln, Nebr., four of her children, and H. [iram] M. Long and H. [enry] P. Long, two brothers of Bedford, Ia., are her nearest surviving relatives.

Her body was returned to Bedford, the home of her childhood and young womanhood, for burial.  The funeral was conducted by Rev. G. T. Roberts from the home of H. [enry] P. Long on Sunday, Dec 26, at 2:30 p.m.

Mrs. M. V. King Dead
J. A. King and Chas. S. Cobb were in Bedford on Sunday, Dec. 26, attending the funeral services of Mrs. M. [artin] V.[an Buren] King, who died at her home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Interment was made beside her husband in the cemetery at Bedford. Mrs. King was a sister of Henry and H. [iram] M. Long of Bedford and was 82 years of age at the time of her death. Her husband preceded her in death a few years ago at Geneva, Neb., where the family resided at that time. Three children survive—Mrs. Bradford and Miss Carrie King of Lincoln and Roy King of Carroll, Neb.

Obituary

Laura Belle Edwards, daughter of Thos. J. and Henrietta [Hollingsworth] Edwards, was born in Wayne County, Iowa, March 7, 1867, and departed this life February 10, 1924, at the home of her sister, Mrs. L. [ytle] C. Widner [Syrena Jane], in north Bedford, at the age of 56 years, 11 months and 3 days.

At the age of 15 she came to Taylor County with her parents, sisters and brother, where she made her home for a few years.  On April 19, 1885, she was united in marriage to Thomas N. Smalley, who preceded her going on Oct 23, 1923.  Two children were born to this union, Geo. Thomas and Rena, both of whom were at the bedside when the end came.

Besides the children she leaves the daughter-in-law, six grandchildren, her father, T. [homas] J. Edwards and a sister, Mrs. L. [ytle] C. Widner [Syrena Jane] both of Bedford, and three brothers, W. H. Edwards, Amherst, Nebr.; J. F. Edwards, Atwood, Kansas; T. J. Edwards, Bush, Colo.

The greater part of her life has been spent in the west and while there she united with the church [words missing] to which faith she remained until the last.  The mother, two brothers, Chas. A. and John A. and one sister, Mary H., preceded her.

At a Ripe Old Age.

At 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, Joshua Anderson died at the home of his son, J. R. Anderson, south of Bedford, aged 73 years.  He was one of Taylor County's pioneers, and had the respect of all.  The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of a large circle of friends.  The funeral exercises were held this morning at the residence at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Collins.  The body was interred in Bedford Cemetery.

Called Over the River.

Monday, April 16, at 4:30 o'clock, occurred the death of Charles Keene, colored, at the home of his parents, two and a half miles southwest of Bedford.  The funeral exercises will be held at the colored church in this city at 3 o'clock today, after which the remains will be interred in the Bedford Cemetery.
