Bedford Times-Press Thursday February 6, 1947 p. 2 Obituary - Robert Dwane Turner Robert Dwane Turner, son of Albert and Carrie [Dalton] Turner, was born near Bedford, June 16, 1923, and died January 24, 1947, at the age of 23 years, 7 months and 8 days. He attended the Bedford schools and graduated in the year 1941. He was united in marriage to Miss Wilma Thompson on June 16, 1942. His entire life was spent in and around Bedford with the exception of two years with the Armed Forces. He spent sixteen months in the Pacific theater, being wounded on Luzon and was later transferred to Korea. He lived a Christian life and held a very special place in the hearts of his wife and family. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife; his parents; two brothers, Haldean Turner of Bedford, and Gerald Turner of Fort Collins, Colorado; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Jones [Gwendolyn] of Bedford, and Mrs. Wayne Cobb [Margaret Jane] of Springfield, Missouri. Funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Home Monday afternoon, with the Rev. Eugene B. Nyman officiating. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery. Bedford Free Press Thursday June 16, 1921 [p. 1] Clark Kinnison Dies A Week Ago Today Funeral Here Probably Sunday at Church of Christ. [Abram] Clark Kinnison died at his home near Ontario, California, a week ago today, June 9, after only a short illness from heart trouble and hemorrhage of the brain. Mrs. Kinnison [Permelia Anna Mathers] and son Kenneth started on the long trip here accompanying the body last evening, and will probably arrive here Saturday. The funeral then will be held at the Church of Christ and burial made in the Bedford cemetery Sunday afternoon. Mr. Kinnison, who was about seventy years of age, for about forty years lived here, and with his wife and son Kenneth only recently moved to California, where they bought a fruit ranch near Ontario. While it is understood now that he had been troubled with his heart somewhat before moving from Bedford, his friends here generally considered him a man with robust health, so the news of his death came as a clear shock to the people of this community. The last few months his physicians had advised him to lead a less strenuous life, as his heart action was faulty. The Sunday before his death the family had been on a picnic and Mr. Kinnison enjoyed the outing and returned home in his usual health. The next day he complained some, Tuesday he was up and down, but Wednesday remained in bed. That evening he became unconscious from a hemorrhage on the brain, and died the following day. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tate [Hope Kinnison] are there and have been helping in the disposal of the ranch. Mrs. Kinnison will remain here for a few weeks and then plans to return to Ontario where she has a house taken in the trade of the fruit lands. Kenneth will also return with her to resume his position there. Later: Word has been received that Kenneth will not come to Bedford. Virgil, the son here, will meet his mother at Kansas City and accompany her to Bedford Saturday noon. [Abram Clark Kinnison] Bedford Free Press Thursday June 30, 1921 [p. 6] Obituary ---- A. C. Kinnison. The body of A. C. Kinnison, who died at his home in Ontario, Calif., Thursday, June 9th, was laid away in the Bedford cemetery, Sunday afternoon, June 19th at 3:00 o'clock. Services were held at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. Lowe, after which the Masons took charge. The family have the sympathy of all in their great sorrow. The obituary of Mr. Kinnison follows: Abram Clark Kinnison was born October 25, 1851, at Nora, Ill. His parents were William Allison and Fannie De Haven Kinnison. In 1870 he was united in marriage to Cora McBride and five years later moved to Bedford, Iowa. Seven children were born to this union, two of whom, Edna and Dawn, died in infancy. The five still living are: Glade McB. [ride] Kinnison, Boise, Idaho; Mrs. Grace Hindman, Ontario, Cal.; Mrs. Franta Stewart, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Hope Tate, of Ontario, Calif.; Abram C. Kinnison, of Grand Valley, Colo. The mother of these children died January 21, 1889. Mr. Kinnison was re-married to Miss [Permilia] Anna Mathers, March 27, 1890, at Sharpsburg and to this union two children were born: Virgil M. of Bedford, and Kenneth De Haven of Orange, Calif. Mr. Kinnison had lived in Bedford continuously since coming here in 1875, with the exception of about 18 months spent in Georgia, where he moved with his family in 1889, until he and his wife and son Kenneth moved to California about a year ago. He united with the Church of Christ at Bedford in 1898. Deceased leaves a brother, Harvey, of Fayette, Idaho, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Wise of Los Angeles. He died Thursday, June 9, 1921, at his home near Ontario, Calif., of heart trouble. He was a member of the Masonic order. For twenty years he was a deacon in the Church of Christ at Bedford and performed well his work. Clean of life and habits, he influenced for good all who knew him. [KINNISON, ABRAM CLARK] [Emma Ackerman Vandenberg Kimpton Van Reenen] Bedford Free Press Thursday June 30, 1921 [p. 6] Obituary --- Mrs. Van Reenan. Mrs. J. [ohn] D. [avid] Van Reenan [Reenen], mother of the Kimpton boys of this vicinity, who had been in feeble health for several weeks at the home of her son, Frank, passed into the beyond Saturday, June 18th. The funeral service was held at Guss, at 2 o'clock, Sunday, June 19, and interment was made in the Guss cemetery. Rev. Gable of Bedford conducted the funeral service. Emma Gertrude Ackerman was born in Newark, N. J., June 27, 1845, and died June 18, 1921, aged 75 years, 11 months and 18 days. She moved to Warren County, Illinois, with her parents, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to John Vandenberg in 1864 and to this union three children were born, two daughters and one son, of which one daughter, Mrs. C. B. Kimpton of Gravity, survives. She came to Taylor County in 1874, and was married to C. [ornelius] P. [hillip] Kimpton, June 10, 1877. To this union seven children were born, one dying in infancy, two daughters and five sons; Mrs. Margaret Wheeler, of Texas; Fred, of Portland, Ore.; Frank, John and Wallace of Gravity; Mrs. Jessie Rogers of LeRoy, Kansas. She moved to Clarinda in 1910, and was married to J. [ohn] D. [avid] Van Reenan [Reenen] of Bedford, where they have made their home for the past nine years. She united with the M. E. church when a girl, of which she has been a faithful member through life. ---Gravity Independent. [VAN REENAN, EMMA ACKERMAN VANDENBERG KIMPTON] [VAN REENAN, EMMA ACKERMAN VANDENBERG KIMPTON] [Emma Gertrude Ackerman Vandenberg Kimpton Van Reenen] Times-Republican Thursday June 20, 1921 p. 4 Mrs. Van Reenan Passes Away Mrs. [John] Dave Van Reenan [Emma Gertrude Ackerman Vandenberg Kimpton] of Bedford, who has been ill for some time, died at the home of her son, Frank Kimpton, of near Gravity, Saturday morning at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Van Reenan had been in failing health for the past few years and was making her last visits to her children at Gravity when death overtook her. The funeral service was held at Guss, Sunday at 2:00 o'clock p.m. |
