Bedford Times-Press Thursday December 14, 1978 p. 7 Della Moore, 88, Final Rites Were Held December 10 Funeral services for Mrs. Leonard L. (Della Keith) Moore, 88, of Bedford, held December 10 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Rev. Dwayne Madsen. Mrs. Moore died in her Bedford home December 6, 1978. Interment was at Bedford Cemetery, Bedford. Della, daughter of Joseph W. [sic] [H.] and Pollie A. [Adell Helm] Keith, was born April 22, 1890, in a log house in Ross Township, Taylor County, Iowa. She lived in and grew to maturity in Bedford where she attended the public school and the Christian Church. On August 16, 1916, she was united in marriage to Leonard L. [ewis] Moore at Bedford and they lived for two years in Aspen, Colo., two years in New Providence, Iowa, and in 1921 moved to Bedford. Two daughters were born to them, Mary Lois and Josephine. Mrs. Moore was a schoolteacher, Deputy County Treasurer and a zealous community volunteer. She was a member of the Christian Church, Twentieth Century Club and Wild Rose Club. She was vitally interested in people, especially children, and taught scores of children in Sunday school. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Zetta Thompson and Loa Kinnison. Left to cherish her memory are: her husband, Leonard; two daughters, Mary Lois Farlow and Josephine Root; sister, Mrs. Verne Timberlake [Helen]; seven grandchildren, Beverly Farlow, Virginia Portillo, Rochester, Minn.; William Farlow, Emmetsburg, Ia.; Virgil Farlow, Pope Valley, Calif., Jeri Dell Meyer, Bainbridge Island, Wash.; Sharon Clark, Overland Park, Kans.; Jeffrey Root, Tacoma, Wash.; and seven great grandchildren. Bedford Times-Press Thursday November 8, 1979 p. 7 Last Rites Held In Bedford For Hazel Marley, 70 Funeral services for Mrs. Carl (Hazel) Marley, 70, of Bedford, held November 3 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Rev. Carl Cummings. Mrs. Marley died October 31, 1979, in St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Mo. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford. Hazel Fern Thompson Marley, daughter of Troy Thompson and Cora Parks Thompson, was born near Bedford, Iowa, June 10, 1909. She grew to maturity in the rural area south of Bedford where she attended the public school and was graduated from Bedford High School in 1927. With the exception of one year lived in Washington state she lived her entire lifetime in Taylor County, Iowa. Hazel taught school three years prior to her marriage to Carl Marley on January 18, 1930, at the home of the bride's parents, with Leslie R. Cobb officiating. Two children were born to bless their home and to share their love: Robert and Lois. They had lived on and operated farms in the area south of Bedford until they retired from the farm and moved to Bedford in 1974 where they had since resided. She was preceded in death by her father, Troy Thompson. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Carl, of the home; a son, Robert Marley, and his wife Pat, of Creston, Iowa; daughter, Lois Coulter, and her husband, Bill, of Lexington, Missouri; grandsons, Richard Marley and Steven Marley and his wife Linda; a great granddaughter, Barbara Marie Marley; grandsons, Michael and Tim Coulter; her mother, Cora Thompson, Bedford; two sisters, Gladys Van Camp, Bedford and Dorothy Keith and her husband, James Keith, of Clarinda, Iowa; other relatives and many friends. Hazel was a long time member of the Berea Church of Christ and was a dedicated Sunday School teacher for many years. Her family and loved ones will remember her as a kind and considerate loved one and she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Bedford Times-Press Thursday August 12, 1982 p. 4 Services for Carolyn Caye Keith To Be Saturday Funeral services for Caye Keith, 40, of Sioux City, will be Sat., Aug. 14 at 2 p.m. at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford. Rev. Carl Cummings will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Bedford. Mrs. Keith died August 10 in Sioux City. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cross of Bedford and daughter-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. James Keith [Dorothy Thompson] of Clarinda. Bedford Times-Press Funeral services were held Saturday at the George L. Gay Funeral Home and Crematorium. Officiating was Reverend Scott Lothe. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Coralville. Ruth was born November 24, 1911, in Bedford, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Madge (Bailie) Meikle. Ruth graduated from Bedford High School in 1929 and the University of Iowa in 1933 with a B. A. in Languages. She married Morton Koser February 25, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple have lived in North Liberty since 1949 where they owned and operated Koser's Grocery Store, gas station and meat locker. Ruth was involved in the community of North Liberty, attended the North Liberty United Methodist Church, [and] was the Ambassador of North Liberty for Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. She was a member of Eastern Star and Forever Green Club in North Liberty. Ruth worked, raised her family and participated in community organizations long before it was popular. She lived for her family and was always there for them. Ruth's dog, Prince Charles (Charlie) has been a constant companion and friend since 1991. Ruth moved to Solon Care Center in January of 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband March 25, 1983, sister, Marjory Jensen and brother, Bill Meikle. Survivors include a son, Robert Wayne (Sonja) Koser of Lacy, WA; a daughter Karen Lynn (Doug) Freeman of Swisher, IA; a son, Stephen Roy (Kris) Koser of North Liberty, IA; granddaughter, Stephanie Ruth (Ryan) Duncan of Westland, MI; a grandson, Robert Morton Koser of Seattle, WA; a granddaughter, Keri Koser of North Liberty, IA; a grandson, Kort Koser of North Liberty, IA; a great granddaughter, Emma Leigh Michelle Duncan of Westland, MI. Bedford Times-Press Thursday March 29, 1979 p. 13 Edna Thomas, 85, Final Rites Were Held In Bedford Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Winfield (Edna Hester) Thomas, 85, of Bedford, held March 25 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Carl Cummings. Mrs. Thomas died in Maryville, Mo., March 22, 1979. Interment was at Fairview cemetery, Bedford. Edna Hester Chilcote Thomas, daughter of David Elmer Chilcote and Hariett Luella Chilcote, was born at Conway, Iowa, February 26, 1894. She grew to maturity in the Conway area where she attended the public school and the Methodist Church. On January 4, 1913, she was united in marriage to Fred Winfield Thomas at Omaha, Nebraska; and to this union five children were born; two daughters and three sons; Margaret Lucile; Cleo David; Fredric Winfield; Dorotha Hester and Dean William. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fred Thomas, who died in 1962, and a son Fredric who died in 1961; three sisters, Etta Mefford, Grace Chanceller and Beulah Walker. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Lucile Culbertson, and her husband, Carl; Cleo Thomas and his wife Naomi [Thompson]; Dean Thomas and his wife, Wilma [Thompson]; and Dorotha Thomas, all of Bedford, Iowa; sisters Mary Marshall of Bedford; and Georgia Meyers of Shenandoah, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Thomas of St. Joseph, Missouri; five grandchildren; Debra Ann and her husband, Ronald Denton, David Dean Thomas, Donna Sue Thomas, Deana Lucile and her husband, Jeff Maynard, and Daniel Rae Thomas; other relatives and many friends. Her family and friends will remember her as a kind and loving mother and loved one and she will be sadly missed by all those who knew her. Bedford Times-Press Thursday March 29, 1979 p. 13 Last Rites Held March 17 For Francis E. Marshall Funeral services for Francis E. Marshall, 62, of Kansas City, Mo., a native of Taylor County, [were] held March 17 in Mount Moriah Terrace Park Chapel in Kansas City, Mo., with Rev. John E. Nickel officiating. Mr. Marshall died in his home in Kansas City, March 14, 1979. Interment was at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery in Kansas City. Francis E. Marshall, son of Leon and Mary Chilcote Marshall, was born on a farm near Bedford, March 7, 1917. When a small boy he moved to Conway, Ia., where he grew to manhood. He graduated from the Conway High School with the class of 1936. He was also a member of the Methodist Church there. He was united in marriage with Orlene Combs on January 7, 1939 and to this union five children were born. They lived in Bedford where he was employed by the Cudahy Packing Co. in the cream and butter department until the spring of 1956 they moved to Kansas City where he had been a truck driver for the United Transport Inc. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Orlene of the home; one son, Staff Sgt. Michael H. Marshall with the Air Force in Las Vegas, Nev.; three daughters, Mrs. Donna Toombs and husband, Burnell, and Mrs. Janice Spicer and husband, Rodney, both of Blue Springs, Mo., and Mrs. Karen Hays and husband, Jim, of Modesto, Calif.; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Marshall, Bedford; four brothers, Don L. Marshall, Durant, Okla.; Charles D. Marshall, Delment, Pa.; David Earle Marshall, Hume, Va.; Frank Merle Marshall, Granada Hills, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Bittencourt and husband, Roy, of Livermore, Calif.; and Mrs. Mary Etta Hanson, husband, Dale, of New Market; nine grandchildren; many other relatives. He was preceded in death by a son, Francis Allan, May, 1978, and two sisters, Mrs. Merine Clark Pauley of Madison, Wisc.; June, 1978 and Miss Maxine Marshall, Arlington, Va., June 1977. He will be greatly missed by all for he made friends wherever he went. Bedford Free Press Thursday October 19, 1899 [p. 1] Chas. A. Perkins Dead. Last Sunday evening while attending services at the Presbyterian Church, C. [harles] Perkins was taken sick. He was taken to his home in town, where he died Monday evening. Deceased was aged 68 years, 11 months and 11 days, and was an old resident of the county. The funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian Church by Rev. Ware, at 1:30 yesterday afternoon. Interment took place in the Bedford Cemetery. |
