"Melissa V. Campbell EATON, Melissa V. Campbell, daughter of John and Esther Campbell, was born March 22, 1846, at Farmington, IA, coming to Taylor county, IA, in the early '50's.  She was one of a family of eight children.  The mother passed away when she was a child.  From this time on she assumed the responsibility of a mother to the family. 

One of her sisters became a teacher in the public schools and a brother a minister of the Gospel. 

In June, 1870, she was married to Byron G. Eaton, going to live on a farm near the present site of Sharpsburg, later moving to Hopkins, MO, where they resided for a number of years.  To this union was born one son, Byron I. Eaton, who survives his mother. The husband passed away in October, 1893. 

She was a life long member of the Methodist Episcopal church.  She retained her membership in the Grand Ave. M. E. Church of Kansas City, MO, which city has been her home for the last 40 years. 

Her death occurred Oct. 6, 1927, at 12:30 o'clock.  She was a charter member of the first organization of the Order of Eastern Star of Bedford. 

She is survived by two brothers, Lock Campbell of Conway, IA, and Rev. Orr Campbell of Govert, S. D.  

Funeral services were held at the Wetmore Funeral Parlors on Sunday, Oct. 9, 1927, conducted by Rev. G. T. Roberts, and burial was made at Graceland Cemetery."

Everhart, Eva Shell - Funeral Services for Eva Everhart, age 86 of Bedford who died Sunday, November 12, 2006 at the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa were held Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford.  Interment was held in the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford.  Memories can be shared with the family on our web site at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Eva Geraldine (Shell) Everhart was born April 25, 1920 in Laurel, Nebraska, the fourth of six daughters, to Charles Fredrick Shell and Clara (Kinney) Shell.   She grew up in the Maryville, Missouri area attending rural schools, and was baptized in the Methodist Church in Wilcox, Missouri.   She then worked as a domestic helper caring for elderly ladies, along with working in a hotel. 

On December 9, 1939, she was united in marriage to Jesse Fay Everhart., Jr., at the Baptist Church Parsonage in Maryville, Missouri.  To this loving union four sons were born, Jesse III, Donald, William and Fredrick.

In 1942, Jesse and Eva moved to Bedford where they both worked for Cudahy's.  After a year, Jesse joined the United States Navy serving during World War II.  Eva continued working at Cudahy's through the War up until 1957.  In 1958, Eva and Jesse moved to the farm west of Bedford.  She was truly a farmer's wife who loved living on the farm, tending to both flowers (she had a magnificent rose garden!) and animals.  Eva also enjoyed raising both cats and dogs.  She was an ardent supporter of her boys and their athletic events as they were growing up, always being a 'vocal supporter' at their games.  She loved bowling and was active in the Bedford League for several years. 

Eva and Jesse enjoyed traveling throughout the years, going on many cruises.

Left to cherish Eva's memory are her four sons, Jesse F. Everhart III and wife Elaine of Camanche, Iowa; Donald Everhart and wife Kay of Bedford; William Everhart and wife Mary of Williamsburg; and Fredrick Everhart and wife Cathy of Grandview, Missouri; a sister, Evonne Hyde and husband Gene of Lebanon, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Eva in death are her parents Charles and Clara Shell; her husband Jesse in 2000; four sisters, Leona Risley, Leora Shell, Daphine McMullin and Doris O'Dell; and one granddaughter, Kemery Ann Everhart.

May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn Eva's  passing.

Eighmy, Raymond Lavoy, better known to his family and friends as "Lefty" entered this world on September 30, 1919 and departed from here on Tuesday, March 07, 2006, at his farm home, New Market, Iowa, at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 6 days.

"Lefty" was the second of three sons born to Elmer C. Eighmy and Bessie Orilla Hicks Eighmy. His younger brother, Larry V. Eighmy and his wife Lorraine Wells Eighmy reside on their farm southeast of New Market and his older brother Wendall D. Eighmy and his wife Lucille Pace Eighmy preceded him in death. He spent his entire life living in New Market, Iowa where he was born and on his farm two and one half miles north east of there with the exception of 3 ½ years spent in the United States Army and Infantry during World War II with some time spent in Europe.

"Lefty" loved animals and especially wildlife and for many years raised and sold feeder pigs. Later he raised and sold Brittany pups under the Kennel name of "Gold Dust Britts". These pups found homes in 13 different states and had a long line of National Champions in their pedigree. His main hobby was hunting with his friends and his well trained Britts. He took many photos of his dogs at work, the best of them he loaned to one of America's best dog artists, Brenda Pollereisz, Willard, Missouri. In her words she said, "Lefty" the artwork of your dogs hangs on walls of homes and offices all over the United States.

Besides raising Britts for himself he raised and sold several litters for friends and also puppy trained some for special friends.

His last wish was "Bury my whistle, a collar and a leash with me; I may need them once again."

Preceding Lefty in death were his parents; brother, Wendall Eighmy and his wife Lucille. Survivors include his brother, Larry Eighmy and wife Lorraine of New Market, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Rev. Tim Maxa officiating . There will be open visitation at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memory Cemetery, New Market, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society and the local animal shelter. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Services for Rea Thomas ERickson, 75, Red Oak, were held November 11 in Red Oak. Mr. Erickson died November 8, 1988 in Burnet, Tx.
Rea Thomas Erickson was born October 30, 1913 to Oscar and Mary Erickson.
He was married to Pauline Frain.  
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Erickson, Red Oak; two sons Henry Erickson, Belmore, N.Y., and Billy Erickson, Waukee, la.; four daughters, Pam Huggins, Granite Shoals, Tx., Louise Wittern, Livermore, Ca., Delores Nauman, Villisca, Beverly Boggess, White Bear Lake; 17 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one brother, Roy Erickson, Villisca, la.

A farmer near Lenox, Geo. Eckles, was trampled to death by his team last week Tuesday, while unhitching. The man was 60 years of age. One tug through oversight was left attached to the singletree after it was thought the team was unhitched.
