Cameron, Robert "Bob" -
Robert (Bob) Alan Cameron was born on August 31, 1956 to Theola Maxine (Monk) Cameron and Lloyd Eugene Cameron in Corning, Iowa. He was the second eldest of four children.
Robert graduated from Clearfield High School in 1975. He was known, in his already rowdy bunch of classmates, for pulling a few good pranks during his day. Right after high school, he attended Southwestern Community College in Creston, receiving his 18-month trade school degree in carpentry. Robert was united in marriage to Marie Jo Bolinger on June 8th, 1979. Robert was currently working at the Crestland lumberyard in Creston until 1982 when he lost his vision completely and was forced to resign from the position. He then opened up a family business, selling and repairing small engines, hence the name, Cameron Small Engine. His son, Christopher was born on September 28, 1986. In 1994, Robert had quadruple bypass after sustaining dual heart attacks while running his then, Cameron Computer Services business in Clearfield. The business was freshly getting off its feet as well.
Bob loved serving his community as well. He served on the city council for 12 years and on the Clearfield School Board for 15 years. He was also a member of the Clearfield Lions Club, Clearfield United Methodist Church and Clearfield Business Club. While Chris was young, Bob served as a Cub Scout Leader.
“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get back up.” Bob was an avid Packers fan and this quote came from his favorite and most inspired coach, Vince Lombardi who the NFL Super Bowl Trophy is named after. While Bob recovered from a lot of things throughout his life, one thing he never did was the loss of being able to coach youth and to help develop young minds. From when his son Chris was in elementary until well after Chris was graduated, Robert coached and even held a coaching endorsement through the State of Iowa. One of Robert’s favorite hobbies was music. He loved music so much that their first piece of furniture in marriage was a stereo system and a CCR vinyl. This is just might be why Marie isn’t a fan of CCR anymore. Eventually Bob got his dream job and started his own DJ business with his favorite person in the world, his wife, Marie, called, “In The Dark, Mobile DJ’s.”
When his health began to fail, Robert had to finally give this hobby up as well. His love never let up for his wife or his son and his drive to make his friends and family laugh. Robert was the perfect image of one of those one of a kind guys.
Robert passed away on December 7, 2017. He was preceded in death were his parents, Lloyd and Theola (Monk) Cameron; grandparents, Claude and Eva (Greer) Monk and Ray and Ellen (House) Cameron; uncles, Cecil and Darrell Monk; and aunts, Bertha Monk and Lucille Miller.

Gray, Ferris - Celebration of Life Funeral Services for Farris Gray, age 87, of Bedford Iowa, who passed away in Maryville, Missouri January 24, 2018, will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Bedford United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at the Cummings Family Funeral Home on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 3 to 7 PM. Interment with military rites will be held at the Hopkins Cemetery.
Everell Farris Gray was born on February 6, 1930 to Carl and Helen Burch Gray. Farris was born on a farm northeast of Hopkins, Missouri while his brother Donovan was at school. The attending midwife had told Donovan that he would have a baby brother or sister when he arrived home from school. Farris attended a one-room school house where his teacher suggested to his parents that he take both the first and second grade during the same year. At that time, in rural schools seventh grade and eighth grade classes were offered on an every-other-year rotation. For Farris and his other grademate, doing two years in one allowed them to take seventh grade and eighth grade in succession and to graduate from Bedford High School at 16 years of age. Farris was always interested in electricity, science and mathematics. As a high school student in route to class, Farris supported his family’s turkey farm by delivering live turkeys in burlap bags to women in Bedford who planned to serve the birds for holiday meals.
Farris attended the Wray Memorial Methodist Church in Hopkins where he met Patsy Joan Thompson at youth group. Farris asked Patsy to go for a date with him, but she refused stating she “was too young”.
As a solider in the Army, Farris served in the Korean Conflict in reconnaissance. Patsy’s mother suggested to her that she write to that “young serviceman” stationed in Korea. Through their letter exchanges a relationship developed. Farris married Patsy on March 7, 1954. He and Patsy actively were engaged in livestock and row crop farming in the Bedford area for over 50 years. Farris took care of the land, actively using conservation practices and being among the first in the area to use no-tillage methods. Because of his effective farm innovation and management, Farris was featured as a Master Farmer by Wallace’s Farmer in 1977. Several young men worked with Farris over the years, and he valued the opportunity to work side-by-side with each one.
When President Jimmy Carter was seeking to learn about agriculture in Iowa, Farris was one of seven farmers who met with President Carter during a visit to Iowa. During the farm crisis of the 1980s, Farris’ expertise was valued through his testimonies to the agriculture committee of the United States Congress in regard to the farm bill. Secretary of Agriculture Bob Berglund visited the Gray farm in 1980. For a few years, in addition to his farming interests, Farris worked as a Pesticide Investigator for the state of Iowa.
As a community member, Farris served on many boards: Rural Community Development, Southern Iowa Council of Governments, Taylor County Extension Council, Bedford Community School Board, Rural Water, Pork Producers, and numerous committees of the Bedford United Methodist Church. Most recently Farris served on the board of the Taylor County Historical Museum.
Farris and Patsy were parents to two daughters, Linda Gray Smith and Nancy Joan Langguth. Farris and Patsy also hosted an American Field Service student from South Africa, Gillian Shellard Haiden. Farris wanted his daughters to have opportunities that he did not have; he made it possible for his daughters to study music with fine teachers, participate in many aspects of the 4-H program, and obtain college degrees.
After moving to Bedford in 2002, Farris and Patsy enjoyed wintering in Tucson, Arizona. After Patsy’s death in 2011, Farris continued to spend 3 months in the warm Arizona sunshine with friends they made in the Voyager Park. Linda drove Farris to Arizona, and Nancy drove Farris home from Arizona; they became good travel companions.
Farris could be described as being humble and kind with a gentle smile. He enjoyed friends of all ages in many communities. Even before social media (which he embraced and enjoyed), Farris established a solid social network knowing how each individual connected with others. He was always interested in others, and in fact, talking with others seems to have been his hobby. He cherished the times he was able to spend with family and enjoyed watching the great -grandchildren in church and school programs.
Surviving Farris is his sister-in-law Kathyrn Gray of Excelsior Springs, MO; daughters Linda Gray Smith and husband Kenneth of Maryville, MO and Nancy Langguth and husband Brad of Iowa City, IA; grandchildren Kirk and wife Susie Smith, children Cora, Sam, and Josie of Blockton, IA; Erin Parks and son Micah of West Des Moines, IA; Erica Smith of Kansas City, MO; Kathryn and husband Bryan Swinbank of North Liberty, IA; and Anne Langguth and husband Michael Ott, sons Quincy and Ryan of Chicago, IL. Farris is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Preceding Farris in death are his wife Patsy, his parents, Carl and Helen Gray, and his brother Donovan

In 1980 she married Paul Hamilton of Bedford, Iowa. She had three children and lived in Bedford, IA; Avoca, NE; Elmo, MO; and Goshen, IN. In all these places, she was well known for her sense of humor, signature laugh, love for the Lord, church drama productions, painting/wallpapering skills, saying "you old silly," and telling her wide-mouthed frog joke. Ha! She loved many and had a way of letting people know that they were wanted and welcomed. For us, her family, we treasure the family traditions she set, the way she rolled her eyes when Dad teased her or called her "honey bunny," her three kisses on our cheeks while saying "I love you sweetie heart," and the way she laughed with us. While we miss her terribly, we praise the Lord she is pain-free and we have no doubt she is in heaven. She had a relationship with God from a young age and we can still picture her sitting in her favorite spot to read her Bible each day.

Ritchie, Kevin Kyle - Visitation for Kevin Ritchie, age 61 of Bedford, who passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 at his home will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Cummings Family Funeral Home in Bedford from 1:00 to 3:00 PM with the family greeting friends. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Kevin's brother Alan Ritchie at the Ritchie Funeral Home where we 'Celebrate Life'.
Kevin Kyle Ritchie was born September 14, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa to Rodger and Loretta (Barnett) Ritchie. As a child Kevin grew up in small towns around Iowa where his father was a teacher and coach, including Cedar, Gilmore City, Aurelia, Lone Rock, Eldridge, and Bedford. He attended kindergarten in Kansas City while his father was called up to the Air Force Reserves.
Kevin started high school in Eldridge at the North Scott school where he played basketball, ran track, and participated in drama. The family moved to Bedford in 1972 when Kevin was a junior, and he was happy to play varsity basketball for Coach Gene Hannon. He met his wife Debra (Morehouse-Burns) at Bedford and they were married in 1975 at the Hamilton-Memorial Missionary Church. Kevin and Deb attended college at William Penn and the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls where they lived in married student housing on campus. He majored in education to teach social studies and coach sports and later returned to UNI to become a guidance counselor.
Kevin’s first job was in Ringsted, Iowa where he coached all of the sports offered at the time. While at Ringsted, their daughter Jill was born in 1979. He taught and coached in Corwith-Wesley where Beth was born in 1981, moving on to other towns including Kanawha, New Market, Bedford, Aurelia, and Exira where Jeff was born in 1986. Finally, the family moved back to Bedford in 1994, where they have lived the past 24 years.
Kevin had a lifelong attachment to music, winning music trivia contests wherever he went and never hesitating to add a new CD to his massive collection. Kevin was also an avid moviegoer and always looked forward to seeing a new show. After his first daughter was born he ran both the movie theater and drive-in theater in Boone, Iowa.
Besides teaching and coaching, Kevin enjoyed being owner of the Godfather’s Pizza in Atlantic, Iowa, and later helping to establish the Godfather’s/Bedford County Store. Always the entrepreneur, he also co-owned Bulldog Sports Cards with his friend Donnie Weed.
Among Kevin’s favorite memories was coaching junior high track and field at Bedford, helping the team to win every meet for two years straight and to set records that still stand today. He enjoyed running the fast break with his AAU basketball teams and spending every Saturday at a new tournament. He also enjoyed officiating all sports, and could be seen at football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball games, as well as the starting line of track meets.
Kevin went on to work as a sports reporter for the Bedford Times Press, a school bus driver for the Bedford School, and a driver for the Southern Iowa Trolley.
As much as Kevin was a sports person, he was even more of a kid person, and there was nothing he looked forward to more than spending time with his grandchildren, Colton and Mayson Sprague, and Hudson Foreman, and more recently his youngest grandchildren Tripp Merrill and Hannah and Luke Ritchie. Kevin always remembered traveling to Disney World in Florida with his kids and grandkids on a family vacation and was always ready to play a game or be silly with his grandkids.
Kevin’s commitment to sports took him all the way through June when he first realized something was wrong while umpiring a softball game. Only the impact of having cancer could take Kevin away from his involvement in sports and the community, and one of his regrets was that he would be unable to watch the 2017-18 basketball season. He attended every state track, football, and basketball state tournament in his entire adult life, never missing the opportunity to spend an entire week watching the best teams in Iowa compete.
Following his diagnosis he was able to spend time living in Omaha with his daughter Beth Merrill and her family, bringing him closer to all his children and grandchildren who all live nearby. After several intensive hospital stays, Kevin was able to spend Christmas with his wife, all three kids, and each and every grandkid. He returned to Bedford mid-January and passed away peacefully at home one week later on January 22 surrounded by family.
Preceding Kevin in death are his sister Sara Ritchie, his maternal grandparents Howard and Sylvia Barnett and his paternal grandparents Donald and Pearl Ritchie.
Kevin is remembered and loved by wife Debra and parents Rodger and Loretta Ritchie of Bedford, daughter Jill Ford and her husband Eric with grandchildren Colton and Mayson Sprague, daughter Beth Merrill and her husband Tim with grandchildren Hudson Foreman and Tripp Merrill, son Jeff Ritchie and wife Molly with grandchildren Hannah and Luke Ritchie, brother Alan Ritchie and sister Molly Stewart
