1. Obituary:
William Carl Parks Thursday July 27 1944
William Carl Parks was born
in Clayton County, Iowa, on October 22 1852. His parents later moved to
Taylor county, Iowa, where he grew to amnhood. On March 22, 187, he was
united in marriage to Celia Emmeline Morton. To this union fifteen children
were born; eight sons and seven daughters. One son, Henry, died in infancy
in Iowa: another son, Jesse, died in 1883 and a duaghter, Mrs. Minnie Staryer
died in 1898; and his wife and companion for nearly 54 years departed this
life
January 9, 1930. In January, 1879,
he and wife and little duaghter came to Rooks Co., Kansas, in a covered
wagon and settled on a homestead about three miles southeast of Webster
and he lived in Rooks County until March, 1900. He then brought his family
to Graham County, In September, 1918, he moved to the Grand Valley in Colorado,
near Fruita and Grand Junction. In January, 1925 he and his wife and youngest
son, Jay Parks, came back to kansas. They lived on year near Webster, then
moved back to Graham county where he spent the rest of his time, except
for a few weeks with his son, Jay, and wife and granson, Verlyn Parks.
mr. Parks was always quite active until in January this year, he began
failing fast.
He had always made a garden and
helped witht he chickens until this year. Everything was done for him that
could be done to relieve his suffering but with the approach of warm weather
on June 16, he was brought to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elva Wanker
and Mr. Wanker in Hill City, so as to be close to the doctor and have the
use of electric fans, etc. His sons and daughters and grandchildren were
with him all the time but human help availed little and on July 17th at
6:20 p.m. he peacefully fell asleep. In Februayr, 1893, he joined the christian
church at Webster and was baptised. Later on he joined the Baptist church
southeast of Hill City at the Sunflower school house, and he can truly
be said that he was a christian. On the morning of July 14 he awoke and
said, "I feel so good; I feel good all over, : and thanked God and everyone
that he was so well; told his daughter to get a pencil paper and make a
recorde of the day he got better in. He was so grateful for everything
the doctors and loved ones did.
Never complainin g at pain or at any one. Said he knew they were
doing all they could for him. As fas as is known, Mr. Parks was the last
of the pioneers of Rooks county to pass away from this world. He was honest,
hard working and every ready to help in sickness and in trouble, was loved
and respected by all who knew him. He was a kind and loving husband and
father and grandfather. He loved children so well. Mr. Parks was 91 years,
8 months
and 25 days old at the time of
his death. Funeral services were held at the christian Church in Hill City
Thurday, July 20th.
Burial was made in the Hopewell
cemetery southeast of Webster, beside his wife and son, Jesse and a grandhcild,
William Milo Staryer. He leaves 98 living descendants; 12 children, 43
grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
His sons are: Cleve Parks, Granite City, IL: George Parks, Norton KS; Carl
Parks, Midvale Utah; Ustel Parks, Salina; Rex parks, Stockton ; and Jay
Parks Edmond. The daughters are Mrs. Stella Luse of Densmore; Mrs. Sarah
Wanker of Hill City; Mrs. Hattie Arbogast, Blue Mound, KS; Mrs. Ida Mead
Hill City; Mrs. Ethel Hodson of Lebanon, OR; and Mrs. Laura Edwards, Vancouver,
WA. Also one brother, Alber Parks of Gravity, IA and one brother in law,
James Morton of Jopillon, MO and a host of other relatives and friends
to mourn the loss. All of his children visisted him during his last ilness.
Cleveland Carl and Lura were unable to be here for his funeral. George
Parks, Ida Mead, Ethel Hodson and Mr and Mrs. Elva Wanker were at his bedside
when he passed away. the funeral sermon was preached by
Rev. Epler of Norton, assisted
by Rev. Phillips of Hill Ciyt. Songs were "Home of the soul," "Haven of
Rest,: and :Sometime we'll Understand.: Choir- Vera Morris Fink,
Bessie Morris, R. W. McBurney and A. L. Law. Aliv Morris pianist. Pall
bears were five grandsons, John Wanker, Forrest Wanker, Roy Wanker, Flo7yd
Parks, William Parks and one great grandson, LeRoy Wanker. Those assisting
at the cemetery were Russell Wagner, Milo Jacckson, Rod Michael and Matt
Trkwart.
A loved one from us is gone,
A Voice we loved is still;
A place is vacant in our

Mrs. W. C. Parks
Celia Emmaline Morton, daughter
of Geo. A. and Sarah Morton was born Sept 15, 1860 in Washington township,
Taylor county Iowa, and she separated this life at the home of her son,
Rex Parks, in Norton, Kansas, January 9, 1930 age 69, 3 months and 25 days.
Her childhood was spent in
Iowa and on March 22, 1876, at Bedford, Iowa, she was united in marriage
to Wm. Carl Parks.
To this union 15 children
were born, 8 sons and 7 daughters.
Her husband, Wm. Carl Parks
and twelve children surviv her; Mrs. Stella Luce, Densmore, Kansas; Mrs.
Sarah L. Wanker, Hill City, Kansas; Mr. G. Cleveland Parks; address unknown;
Mr. Geo W. Parks, Edmond, Kansas; Mrs. Hattie M. Arbogast, Webster, Kansas;
Mrs. Ida A. Mead, Sharon Springs, Kansas; Mrc. C. Ethel Hobson, Amy, Colorado;
Mr. Carl M. Parks, Bingham, Utah; Mr m. Ustel Parks, Hill City, Kansas;
Mr. Rex X. L. Parks, Norton, Kansas; Mrs. Lura L.
Edwards, Denver Colorado and Jr.
Jay L. R. Parks Edmond, Kasas, all of whom were present at funeral except
G. Cleveland Parks. Mrs. Ethel Hobson, and Carl M. Parks.
Thoses preceding her were
Henry A. Parks, died in infancy in Iowa; Jesse Parks, age 3 died in1884,
near Webster, kansas; Minnie Staryer, age 19 years, died at Mankato, Kansas
in 1898.
Brother and Sister parks
came to Kansas in the fall of 1878 homesteading in Rush township, Rooks
county, 2 1/2 miles southeast of Webster. There they lived the real Pioneer
life. She went through the trials and hardships of rearing a large family,
and building a home in a new country. Only thoses who have lived the pioneer
life, can realize what she had passed through with, and she was truly a
devoted wife and mother.
They resided in Rooks county
until in March 1900, they moved to Graham county where they resided southeast
of Hill City until Sept. 1918, when they moved near Grand Junction, Colorado,
and again moved to Rooks county in March 1925, after a year sojourn they
again moved to Graham county living on a farm 12 miles north of Hill city,
remaining there until her death.
While at her sons's home in Norton,
kansas, she gently fell asleep where she was under doctor's care. Her husband
W. C. Parks, daughters Hattie and Lura and son Rex Parks and family were
with her at the time of her departure. She had been in failing health
for several years and death was not unexpected.
Sister parks' father , mohter,
two brothers, one half-brother and three sisters preceded her in death
to await her in the call of Jesus at his ocming in the clouds of Heaven.
Three brothres. S. C. Morton
of Simposn, Colorado; M. O. Moton of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska and james Morton
of Lebanon, Kansas and one half sister Mrs. Lavina Blackman of Fairfield,
Iowas, survive her.
She is also survived by 30
grandchildren and 7 great-grand chidlren. There are 11 grand-children who
have passed on to the Great beyond.
Sister Parks has been a sincere
Christian from childhood.
About fifteen years ago.
she began observing the truths of faith as held by the Seventh Day Adventists,
and was amember of the Fruits, Colorado. S.D.A. Church.
like Dorcas of bible times,
she was ever a friend and helper to the sick and needy.
The world needs more such
lives, and hence, our loss is keenly felt by the numberous relatives and
friends.
She also was a beneficiary
member of the Roayl Neighbors of America, having joined at Webster, kansas,
Webter Camp No. 1087, December 2, 1899. she later untied with Camp No.
918 of Edmond, Kansas.
Services were held in a well
filled M. E. Church of Webter, Kansas by elder F. R. Parkd of the Hill
City Seventh Day Adventist's Church. January 12, 1930
Then we laid her to rest
from he labors in the Hopewell cemetery, Rooks county, beside her son jesse
and granson. Wm. Milo Straver.
Elber Luse, John Wanker,
Claud Luse, Forrest Wanker, Burton Luse and Roy Wanter, grandsons of the
deceased were the pall bearers.
There were 59 relatives present
at the funeral.
3. Obituary - Albert
Parks
Albert
Parks youngest child of Moses and Lucinda Parks, was born north of Gravity
in Holt Township, October 15, 1865, and died at his home in Gravity, December
17, 1953 at the age of 88 years, two months, two days.
On October
12, 1890 he was married to Etta Konecne, to them nine children were born:
Moses Parks of Memphis, Tenn.; Estelle Parks, Gravity; John Parks, Zillah,
Washington; Mrs. Pearl Teastworth, Keokuk; Lester parks, New Market; George
Parks, Pueblo, Colo.; Mrs. Anna Bean, Toppenish, Washington; Kenneth Parks
Omaha; Neva Mae Parks who died in infancy.
Mr. Parks
operated a farm until his health caused him to retire. He moved to Gravity
and resided there until his death. He was a member of the Oak Hill Christian
Church.
Those
left to mourn his passing are his compainion of more that 63 years, eight
children, 28 grand children and a number of great grand children.
Funeral
service was conducted at the Christian Church in Gravity by Rev. R. V.
Felt. Burial was in the Gravity Cemetery. Washington Cemetery row 4 sec
56, there is a metal marker.

Final Rites for Etta M. Parks
Services
for Mrs. Etta May Parks, long time Taylor county resident, were held November
4, at the State Street Shum-Noveninger Funeral home with Rev. Ivo Randels
in Charge. She died Nov. 1 at Municipal Hospital in Clarinda, Ia.
Included
in the service was the following obituary:
Etta Parks,
daughter of Frank and Emmaline Konecny was born Nov. 16, 1873 in Taylor
County and lived here practically all her life.
She was
married to Albert S. Parks, October 12, 1890 and to this union 9 children
were born. Those living are: Moses Parks, Memphis, Tennessee, Estel and
Lester Parks, Gravity; John Parks, Zillah, Wa., Pearl Teatsworth, Keokuk,
IA;
George Parks, Pueblo, Co.; Anna
Bean, Yakima, Wa; Kenneth Parks, Omaha, NE.
Mrs. Parks
was a member of the Gravity Christian Church and of the Easter Stars, and
as long as her health permitted was very active in both.
She was
preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband, three brothers,
two sisters, one baby and four grandchildren.
She was
a woman who deeply loved her family extending down to the great grandchildren.
She always stood ready to help a neighbor, or friend who was in distress,
even to the point of sacrifice. Article dated: Nov. 4, 1962
5. Obituary:
Frank Konecne was born at
Vienna, Austria, November 23, 1842 and died at his home in Graviyt, June
29, 1933, at the age of 90 years, 7 monts and 6 days. When 12 years of
age he came with his parents to America and settled on a farm at Solon,
IA. where he grew to manhood.
At the opeing of the civil
War, he heard the call of his country and enlisted in Company K of the
22 IA Infantry and served during the was without a day of sickness or a
wound. He saw service with Gen. Sheridan at Winchester, was with Grant
at the battle of Vicksburg, and when they besieged the city for 47 days,
besides many other hand fought engagements.
At the close of the war he
received his honorable discharge, and returned to the home of his parents
in Johnson county where he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Emyline
Eells on December 15, 1866. to this union 7 children were born; John Nathaniel
who died 2 years ago; Francis Hoyt; Louis Wilbur; Etta M.; Marry E. and
Lillie Belle In 1868 about 2 years after Mr and Mrs. Konecne
were married, they moved from Johnson county to Taylor county and
settled on a farm about 9 miles north of the present town of Gravity. Here
they labored until failing health and old age caused
them to feel the need of retiring
from the heavy work of the farm and they moved into Gravity in 1913. Five
years later on September 20, 1918, his companion of more than 50 years,
passed to the other world, leaving him behind in the home alone. some years
later affliction came and after seferal years of suffering the end came
at 12 o'clock, June 29, to relieve him of the intense suffering of the
last few days.
Those who are left to mourn
his passing ar five children: Francis Hoyt of Effingham, KS; Louis wilbur,
Etta M. Parks and Mary e. Dunkin of Gravity, IA; Lillie Belle Schooling
of Brooks, IA; 17 grandchildren and 30 great grand children. One brother
Joe Konecne of towner, Co and one sister Mr.s Julia shilhann of Bagley
MN.; andmany other relatives and friends.
Mr. Konecne was a good father,
always thinking of his children and grand-children, remembering them in
a very substantial way at different times in his life. He was reared inthe
Catholic faith in his early life; but in later years he attended worship
in the chirstian and Free Methodist Churches. Just before passting to the
other world he showed his faith in god and in prayer by asking in his weak
way to be placed in a position for prayer and after his prayer was completed,
he made the sign of the
cross and passed into the other
life.
funeral services were conducted
in the Christian church Saturday afternoon at 2:00p.m., conducted by Rev.
R. V. Felt of the Methodist church, assisted by Rev. Dickey of the Free
Methodist church. Interment at Gravity Cemetery.
6. Obituary:
Former Gravity Resident Dies in
Tennessee
Moses
Franklin Parks 79, of Memphis TN., former Gravity resident, died August
16 in the Methodist Hospital in Memphis. Services were held August 18 in
Memphis Funeral Home Popular Chapel with interment at Memorial Park.
Mr. Parks
was a retired employee of the city's asphalt department. He was a member
of Leapwood Baptist church.
He leaves
his wife, Mrs. Emma McCampbell Parks; six sons, Glen, Clayton, Clyde and
David of Memphis and Virgil and Orval of Akron, CO.; a daughter, Mrs. Darlene
Anderson of Akron; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Teastworth of Clearfield, IA.;
and Mrs. Anna Bean of Yakima, WA. four brothers Kenneth of Omaha, NE.;
George of Pueblo, Co.,; Lester and Estle, both of Gravity; and 20 grandchildren.

Estel Fay Parks 83 last rites held
July 23.
Funermal
services for Estel Fay Parks, 82 of Gravity, held July 23 in Shum-Novinger
Funral home in Bedford, were conducted by Mr. and Mrs. Ross Keyt. Mr. Parks
died July 20, 1977 in Clarinda Municipal Hospital. Moore-Rutledge American
Legion Post No., 578 conducted the military honors at Washington Cemetery,
Gravity.
Estle
Fay Parks, son of Albert and Etta Parks, was born in Gravity, IA August
6 1894.
He lived
and grew to maturity in Gravity, where he attended the public schools.
On February
18, 1828 he was united in Marriage to Vesta Grace Pace at Maryville, Missouri.
They lived together at Gravity. To this union two children were born: Evelyn
and Lowell. He had one son Kenneth by a former marriage.
He was
engaged in farming.
He was
preceded in death by his son Lowell, his parents, one sister, four brothers,
and twin great-grand daughters.
Left to
cherish his memory are his wife Vesta; their daughter, Evelyn Watkins;
five grand children; and six great grand children.
He was
a member of the American Legion; and it is believed that he became a true
beliver and follower of Christ.
He was
a kind and considerate husband, father and grandpa and will be sadly missed
by all who knew and loved him.

5, 1986 in Gravity Iowa, Mr. Parks had resided in Toppenish for the past
2 years but had lived in Buena vicinity 29 years.
He was
a member of Masonic Lodge, Meridian Lodge 196, Buena and the First Baptist
Church, Buena.

include his wife, Mrs. Lila M. Parks, Toppenish; 1 son Duane Parks, Toppenish:

Lila M. Parks
Lila M. Parks, 95 of Toppenish
died on Saturday, November 16, 1991, at the Valley Rehabilitaion Center
in Toppenish.
She was born on September
10, 1896 in Gravity, Iowa, the duaghter of Samuel and Clara E. (Dutton)
Neville.
She attended schools in Gravity
and graduated from high school there in 1916. she continued her education
until she received hr teaching certificate. she taught grade school in
the Gravity area for two years. she married John e. parks on may 12, 1918
in Bedford, Iowa. they farmed in gravity until 1936 when they moved to
the Zillah Buena Area. She and her husband moved to Toppenish in 1963.
she was a member of Buena Baptist Church.
she is survived by one son,
duane and wife Ruth parks of Yakima; two daughters, Fayne and husband Harold
Davis of Zillah and Nadine and husband allen Chisholm of Winston, Ore.;
one sister, hazel Barragar of Clarinda, Iowa; seven grandchildren, 21 great
grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, John in 1965; a grandson, paul H. Davis in 1981 and two
brothers and one sister.
11. Last rites
held for CIara Teatsworth
Clara Pearl Teatsworth, 85,
of Gravity, Iowa, and formerly of Keokuk, died
July 11 1985 as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.
Services were held July 5 at the
Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford with the Rev. Ross Keyt officiating.
Burial was at Washington Cemetery in Gravity.
Clara Pearl Parks Teatsworth was
born at Gravity, Iowa January 30, 1900, the daughter of Albert and Etta
Konecne Parks. She was reared in Gravity and attended country school.
She married George D. Teatsworth on October 12, 1919, in Bedford, Iowa,
To this union four children
were born: Neva Mae, Brice Warren, Evelyn Marie, and Garrel Lee. She spent
30 years in Keokuk, Iowa, employed by Glaser-Crandell,Canning Co., until
she retired in 1967. She was a member of the Oak Hill Church. She was a
charter member:of Keokuk Eagles Auxiliary and Gold Star mother Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by two
sons: Brice Warren who, died in infancy, and Garrel Lee, who was killed
in Vietnam in 1967; her Parents, five brothers: Moses, Estle, John, Lester,
and Kenneth, and one sister, Neva Mae, who, died in infancy.
Those left to cherish her memory
are two daughters, Neva Mae Stark, Gravity, and Evelyn Marie Kelley, Burlington;
one and daughter Gwendolyn Lee Elmneen, Monmouth, Iowa; two sons,
Jack E. Teatsworth, ? Falls, Garrel Lee Kelley of Burlington; four great
grandchildren, one brother, George Parks, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one
sister, Anna Bean, Yakima, Wash.; also nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral
services for Lester (Bill) Parks, 71 of Gravity, eld August 14 t Shum-Novinger
Funeral Home, were conducted by Rev. Ross Keyt and Rev. Robert Truitt.
Mr. Parks died August 11, 1973 at the Municipal Hospital in Clarinda.
Interment was at Washington Cemetery,
Gravity.
Lester
"Bill" Parks, was born August 1, 1902 to Albert and Etta Parks.
He was
married to Helen Adams March 1, 1923 and to this union three children were
born: Jay Dee, still born, Mrs Pete (Betty Lou Edwards) Omaha, Mrs. Bob
(Lois Marie Heumphreus, San Diego, Calif.
Lester
farmed most of his life, for nine years he operated a service station in
Gravity which burned in 1943.
He was
a member of the Oak Hill Church.
He had
major surgery in April of this year. He has been in ill health for several
years yet was always willing to help other people in need.
He was
preceded in death by an infant son, Jay Dee, his parents, two brothers,
Johnny nad Mosey and an infant sister.
He is
survived by is wife of 50 years, Helen; daughters and son-in-laws: Mr.
and Mrs. Pete Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Heumphreus; five grand children:
Capt. Linda Edward Gadfrey of Columbia, SC,; Sgt Rick Edwards, Omaha,;
Cpl Terry Edwards, Omaha,; Larry and Cindy Edwards, Omaha,; three brothers
Estle of Gravity,; George, Pueblo, CO,; Kenneth Omaha; two sisters, Mrs.
Pearl Teatsworth, Clearfield,; Mrs. Anna Bean, Yakima, WA.; sveral nieces,
nephews a host of
other relatives and friends.
He will
be sadly missed by his family and friends.

services for Mrs. Lester Bill (Helen) Parks, 74 of Gravity, held February
13, in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, were conducted by Rev. Ross
Keyt. Mrs Parks died February 9, 1980 at Rosary Hospital. Interment was
at Washington Cemetery, Gravity, IA
Helen
M. Parks, daughter of Manford and Ethel Savage Adams, was born at Ladoga,
Iowa August 25 1905. She lived in Gravity and grew to maturity in New Market
where she attended the public school.
On March
1, 1923 she was united in marriage to Lester Bill Parks at Gravity and
they lived in Taylor County. To this union three children were born: J.D.
Parks (still born), Betty Lou Edwards and Lois Marie Heumphreus. She was
engaged in farming with her husband.
She was
preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, daughter, Betty
Lou; sister Theo Greenway, four brothers, Claude (Babe), Ronald, Kenneth
and infant brother.
Left to
cherish her memory are her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Rob Heumplreus
of Gravity; son-in-law, Pete Edwards of Clarinda; grandchildren; Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Godfrey of Germany, Mr. and Mrs. Rick Edwards of Omaha, Mr.
and Mrs Terry Edwards of Connecticut, Mr. and Mrs Larry Edwards of Omaha,
Mr. and Mrs Kevin Coleman of Gravity; eight great grand children; one sister,
Margie Knapp of Oregon, Keith of Kansas; Numerous other relatives and
friends.
She was
a member of Oak Hill Church and Lades Aid, attended Gravity Christian Church
for many years and was recently baptized into the Gravity Church of the
Nazarene.
She was
a kind considerate and very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother
and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

15. Obituary:
Anna Bell Bean
Yakima-
Anna Bell Bean 85 of Yakima, died Sunday, January 17, 1993 at her home.
Mrs Bean was born August 26, 1907 at Taylor Co., Iowa to Albert and Etta
Parks. She married Earl Bean on February 7, 1925 and then moved to Washington
in 1937
She worked
in agricultral related jobs and reaised and educated her children plus
two grandchildren and one great grandchild. After her retirement, Mrs Bean
became a Foster Grandparent and worked for 20 years in the Yakima School
district, EPICS, Head Start Program and Seasonal Daycare, and at the Yakima
Valley School with special children until illness forced her retirement
this past September.
She was
a member of the Salvation Army Church serving on the League of Mercy.
She is
survived by 2 sons, Robert Bean and his wife Rita, of Orting, Washington,
and William Bean and his wife, Joyce of Georgetown, Texas; 20 grandchildren;
28 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was
preceded in death by her husband Earl; a son, Earl Jr.; a daughter, Joanne,

Services will be held Thrusday at 2:30 p.m. in Shaw and Sons Chapel. Burial
will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
