Denton Camery

Dec 14, 1911--Tuesday night about 10:00 occurred the death of Denton Camery, who had been suffering for the last several weeks with pleuro-pneumonia. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the late home, conducted by Rev. C. L. Nye, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment will take place in Woodlawn cemetery.

Denton camery was born in Knox county, Ohio, July 1, 1846, and died in this city on Tuesday evening, Dec. 12, 1911. He came to Tama County with his parents in 1861, and enlisted in 1864 in Co. K. 47th Iowa Volunteer Infantry and served until the regiment was mustered out of service.

He engaged with his father in the implement business from 1870 until 1893. Since then he has engaged in the real estate business and has been Postmaster at Toledo since his appointment in 1906.

Mr. Camery was married to Miss Violet Arb in this city Nov. 16, 1869. She died in 1908. One daughter, Mrs. Edith McClaskey, remains. Mr. Camery has been actively engaged in politics.

He served as chairman of the County Central committee for five years and Secretary and treasurer of the same for ten years. He was a delegate to the Republican Club National Convention at Denver in 1894, and was an Assistiant Sergeant-at-arms at the Republican National Convention in Chicago in 1904. Locally he was a member of the County Board of Supervisors for nine years, and chairman for 5 years. Also a member of the School Board for six years and president for five years. He was member of the fraternal order of the "Legion of Honor" and of the local G.A.R. post. Such a prominent public and official life made him a well known man over the county, and especially in this community where he has for so many years lived a life of rectitude and uprighteousness, winning the confidence of his neightbors and friends.

Mr. Camery was strickened with sickness some weeks ago, which threatened pleuro-pneumonia. From this he seemed to rally, but suffered a relapse which with other complications has proven fatal.
