This data is based on secondary sources. If a marriage is not found, do not assume that it did not occur. If it is found, you must independently verify the information therein. The information has been abstracted from the Story County Bride Index, the original Marriage Records and Registers at the Story County Court House, and a microfilm copy of those records. (Marriage Register Vol. 1, Marriage Record Vol. A2, Marriage Registers Vol. A3, A4, A5, and Marriage Records Vol. 3 & 4.) The information has been recorded as it was found in the source document, even when the source appeared to have errors. Try variant spellings, including phonetic ones. Names were often written as they sounded. Errors may have been introduced in many places, starting with how the marriage was recorded in the original register.
The Story County Bride Index was prepared in 1964 by Frances Sass for the Story County Courthouse. The index is not a pure extraction from the marriage registers. In some instances the author applied her own knowledge of individuals to change or elaborate on the names recorded. At this time most of the records in the marriage database come from the Bride Index, although over time more will be transcribed from the registers. I have made the following alterations.
The Bride Index, together with the marriage registers upon which it was based, is found in the Family History Library Catalog of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on microfilm number 1403711.
