*****HULSTEIN, KENNETH W. AND EUNICE (SCHUTT)
The Ken Hulstein Farm. Ken had l older brother, Gerrit, and 1 older sister, Harriet, and 2 younger sisters Alverna and Wilma. His boyhood was spent living and working on the family farm helping his father. He attended country school and then the Sioux Center Community High School. He entered the Marine Corps on Feb. 25, 1952, working as a radio operator, stationed in North Carolina. He was discharged on Sept. 17, 1953, a few months early because his father had a heart attack, and he had to return home to run the farm. While in the Marines, he took as his wife Eunice Mae Schutt. They were married on November 14, 1952, at the 1st Reformed Church in Sioux Center. At this time, Eunice stayed in Sioux Center and continued as a teacher teaching in Archer. When school finished in May she joined Ken in North Carolina. They stayed living in North Carolina until his discharge in September, then they returned to the farm living with Ken's folks until his parents new home was finished in Sioux Center. Ken and Eunice continued on the farm where they raised their family and continue living today. Eunice Mae Schutt was born at her grandparents home ¼ mile west of Sioux Center on January 25, 1932. Her parents were Sandereus (Sam T.) Schutt and Grace Peelen. Eunice and her family lived in numerous different homes and farms in and around Sioux Center. She had 2 younger brothers Howard and Tunis Eugene (Gene) and a younger sister Sandra. Eunice attended country school until 8th grade.
Ken and Eunice Hulstein. They then returned to live in town and she graduated from the Sioux Center Community High School. She then went on to attend 2 years of junior college at Northwestern College to become a teacher. She did teach for 1 year before becoming a full time wife and mother. Ken and Eunice were blessed with four sons: Kirk, Kelly, Kraig and Kembe. All four boys loved life on the farm and especially horses. Being members of the Saddle Club for many years many of the families' activities and leisure times revolved around horses. The family raised and showed horses for many years. Today the horses are still used occasionally on the farm but kept mostly for the enjoyment of the grandchildren. Ken, Kirk, Kelly and Kraig continue to farm together as Bar-K-Farms. Eunice has also remained very busy with life on the farm functioning in many different roles as secretary, bookkeeper, cook, and babysitter.
