1. Sioux County Headstones Indexes done in
1979-1981 by the Northwest Iowa Genealogical Society of LeMars IA. It
was done by members who walked each cemetery, and filled out cards on
each stone, which they indexed by separate cemeteries. These indexes
have burials that have headstones and comprises most of the entries.
Many burials were made where there was no marker put on the grave or
remained over time, consequently those deaths are not in the index.
Unless otherwise noted at the end of an entry, the entries will have
come from this index. Thanks to the NW IA Genealogical Society for
permission to use these indexes to assemble this large index which is in
alphabetical order by the whole county. |
2. The WPA Index (Work Progress
Administration Project) made an index of Sioux County grave 1938 –
1941. (the letter O is missing from this index). When a record from this
index is not included in the index done in 1979-1981 as indicated in #1
above, then an entry was made and noted with (WPA) behind the entry. |
3. Obituary File Cards 1980-1994 The Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society has been clipping obituaries from the local newspapers since 1979 to continue the process beyond the index in #1 and #2. The deaths from the GSCGS obituary card file of Sioux County burials 1980-1994 were added and noted with a (GSCGS) after the entry. The actual card files contain many more area obituaries from local outlying county areas. (Thanks to Jennie Den Besten of Rock Valley for spearheading and keeping the obituary card project current.) |
