John and Nettie Shum of Washington County, Kansas.
John Shum was born to French Canadian immigrants, Peter and Elizabeth (Penor/Pinard) Shum, in Lee County, Iowa, in 1864. He grew up on a farm north of Clarinda in Page County, Iowa.
John married Nettie Rebecca Wonzer in 1890 in Greenleaf, Washington County, Kansas. There, they raised their children: Charles Abraham, Lawrence Earl, Howard McKinley and Edna Mae.
John died in 1928 in Washington County, Kansas. Nettie lived until 1972.
