Renna Goforth burial at Bedford
Funeral
services for Renna Elbert Goforth,
74, of Bedford were held April 7 in Bedford following his death April 4.
Interment was at Bedford Cemetery.
The
son of Arthur and Mollie Dawson Goforth, he was born June 8, 1898, in Taylor County.
On
Feb 20, 1918, he was united in marriage to Bessie Opal Douglas, and to this union nine children were born. A
daughter died in infancy.
Two
daughters and six sons are: Mrs. Sharon Scroggs of Coin, Mrs. Doris Raynor of San Diego, Calif.; Harold Arthur and Gail of Bedford; Eugene of Clarinda; Russell and Howard of Omaha, Neb; and Clayton of San Diego, Calif. He has 24 grandchildren; one
brother, Glen, of Avoca, two
sisters, Mrs. Ruth John of
Bedford and Mrs. Ruby Burk of
Omaha, Neb.

MRS BEN GOECKER WAS ACTIVE IN VETERANS WORK
Funeral
services for Mrs. Ben (Esther) Goecker, 60, of Clarinda, will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday at the Immanuel
Lutheran Church, with Pastor Gary Arp officiating.
A
family prayer service will be at 10:15 am at the church basement. The family
will receive relatives and friends 7:30 to 9 pm Monday at the Lavelle Funeral
Home.
Graveside service will be held at 4 pm
at the Elm Grove Cemetery at Des Moines. Casket bearers will be Warren Renander
Jr., Dennis Renander, Serle Kirchner, Ray, Lavern and Kenneth James.
Music
will be furnished by Mrs. Stanley Wagoner and Mrs. Ivan Otte, accompanied by
Mrs. Irwin Buch. At the register books will be Mrs. Orville Robberts and Mrs.
Wayne Sunderman. Ushers will be Gerald Herzberg and Jon Herzberg.
Mrs.
Goecker died Saturday morning at
the Municipal Hospital after being hospitalized for four weeks. Her illness had
extended over the past eight months.
She
was born Feb 26, 1913, at Perry, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George James
[Jessie Woodward]. She was reared
in the Perry area and was married to Glenn Carman, Jan 16, 1933, at Perry. They lived in Des Moines
for a short time until moving to Woodward, where she was employed at the
Woodward State Hospital for 15 years. Mr. Carman died in 1967. She was married to Ben Goecker on June 22, 1969, at Perry.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, two brothers, her first
husband, and one daughter in infancy.
In
the past four years she has held various offices in the local, district, state
and last fall received an appointive office in the national organization of
World War I Veterans Auxiliary. She was currently serving as secretary of the
Western Conference of Veterans of World War I.
She
served as secretary of the Immanuel Ladies Aid and was active in neighborhood
clubs.
She
is survived by her husband, Ben,
a daughter, Mrs. Lee (Nina) Philpot of Woodward, a son, Ralph Carman,
serving in the Armed Forces in Hawaii, four sisters, Mrs. Olive Ingebritsen of Covina, Calif., Mrs. Bill Hensen of Davenport, Mrs. Cliff Swihart of Sedro-Wooley, Wash and Mrs. Charles Kudrle of Phoenix, Ariz., three brothers Harry James of Sioux City, Ora James of Adel and Paul James of Minburn; five grandchildren, four
stepdaughters Mrs. Delores Renander of Essex, Mrs. Marilyn Kirchner of Clarinda, Mrs. Ardith Spies of Lafayette, Ind. and Mrs. Harriet Jack of Fayetteville, Ark.

Sheirbon lifelong resident of area
Homer
M Sheirbon, 72, lifelong resident
of this area, died Friday afternoon at Municipal Hospital where he had been
admitted earlier in the day.
Services
were held Sunday afternoon at Walker Funeral Home with Rev Lester Greenwood
officiating. Grace Perry was organist and H E Richardson soloist. Casket bearers
were Dennis Mellencamp, Randy Gray, Dwayne Paulsen, Kenneth Jensen, David Reed
and Dennis Garvin. Burial was in the Clearmont, Mo, cemetery.
Mr.
Sheirbon was born Mar 29, 1901,
at Clearmont, the son of Jess [Edward] and Melvina Irvin Sheirbon. On. July 26, 1927, he was married to Beatrice
Martin who survives.
Mr.
Sheirbon had been a barber since
he was 17 years old. He was a member of the Methodist church in Bagley, Iowa.
Besides
his wife of the home at 324 West Logan, he is survived by three children, Mrs.
Wayne (Carmen) Hartman of
Clarinda, Mrs. Robert (Lorena) Gray of Stanton, and Mrs. Carroll (Marian) Garvin of Storm Lake, and eight grandchildren.
His
mother is Mrs. Jess (Melvina) Sheirbon of Clarinda, a brother, Stanley Sheirbon of Meridian, Idaho; a sister, Frances Stone of Clarinda. He was preceded in death by his
father and one son, Harold.

Services
for Jaymes Leslie Williams are
pending arrival of his father, Lester Williams, this Thursday evening. He learned of the
accident at 7 am Thursday when he made a "routine" call from Ohio. He
was on a regular trip as the driver of a transport, and had not been able to
get the family Wednesday night.
At
the time he called he was within 12 miles of Rev Draper, whose daughter had
recently married John Williams,
and these are returning together.
Jimmy was born Jan 13, 1957, at Elmo, Mo, and has been
a sophomore in South Page high school at College Springs.
He
has three sisters and a brother, including Mrs. Larry (Shira) Bridie, Mrs. Randy (Sheila) Pullen and John Lester Jr. of Clarinda, and Shelly Williams at home in Shambaugh. His grandparents are Mrs.
Hazel Mace and Mr. and Mrs. Mason Williams
of Clarinda. He has four nephews
and a niece.
Mrs. (Shelia Mace) Williams and family went to the Ralph Crawford home after
the accident.
The mother of Mrs.
Carroll was notified in Des Moines and came immediately to be with Carroll and
family. Mrs. Marsh's husband, who is in the service, was
due
to come in California. The couple was expecting arrival of a baby within a
matter of days.
Mrs.
[Beverly Ann] Carroll was born
Oct 15, 1937 at Peoria,
Ill., daughter of Robert and Ann Kiem Field. Her mother, now living in Des Moines, came
to Clarinda immediately on word of the accident.
Besides
her husband, Robert, she is
survived by eight children and two stepchildren. Besides Jeanette Marsh, who
has been with the parents near College Springs, the children are Leroy
Luncsford of Des Moines, Mrs.
Shirlee Divinney of Des Moines;
Mrs. Deborah Marsh of Omaha; Louis,
Larry, Timothy and Edward Luncsford at home; step children Bobby and Vicky Carroll of the home and three grandchildren.
She
has seven brothers, including Howard and Van Field, Don Harshaw, Dennis and Charles Meyers of Des Moines; James Field of San Jose, Cal, and Duane Field of Peoria, Ill.
Her
mother and stepfather are Ann and James Meyers of Des Moines.
All
but one of Mrs. Carroll's children is expected to be dismissed from the
hospital.

Aug 1957 at Peoria, Ill. to Leroy and Beverly Field Luncsford Sr. Her brothers, sisters and grandmothers names are

Former Yorktown
resident died
Local
residents have received word of the death Monday of Mrs. Lloyd Barker [Lucille
Penn] at West Branch.
Her
father, the Rev Joseph Penn,
was formerly the minister at the Methodist Church in Yorktown.
Mrs. Barker had been living with her son Gilbert. Her husband had died about five years ago.

Mrs. Lavely was resident of Coin
Mrs.
Lloyd Lavely [Ruth Myrtle Jackson],
a resident of Coin for several years, died Tuesday [Oct 2, 1973] at Hand
Hospital in Shenandoah, and services will be at 2 pm Friday at the United
Methodist Church in Coin.
Burial
will be in Snow Hill Cemetery, with Hackett Funeral Home of Shenandoah in
charge. A memorial has been established to the heart fund.

Mrs. Thompson was former resident
Mrs. George (Alice)
[Paddeck] Thompson, 87, formerly
of Clarinda, died Thursday at Ridgeway, Mo. Services were at Ridgeway Sunday, Ted Hale of Clarinda being
among those attending. Mr. Thompson was a filling station operator when in Clarinda, and has preceded his wife in
death. She is survived by a son, Hale, and daughter, Melva, and grandchildren

Mrs. Seibert died after long illness
Services
for Mrs. Maud Seibert, 75, of
Clarinda will be held at 2 pm Friday at the Lavelle Funeral Home with Rev Dean
Gillespie officiating. Burial will be in the Clarinda Cemetery.
Casket
bearers will be Owen and Dean Thompson, Herb Myers, Ralph Barrows, Mernie Hays
and Paul Gorrell. Music will be provided by Rev and Mrs. James Mosley,
accompanied by Mrs. Gene Garrett. Mrs. Seibert died Wednesday morning at West Heights Manor
after an extended illness.
She
was born Jan 28, 1898, in Taylor County, the daughter of William and Sarah
Jane King Morris. She attended
public school in Clarinda and was married to L[eslie] P [orterfield] Seibert on Feb 3, 1916, at Clarinda. They lived at
Valeria, Iowa, until 1920 when they moved to Clarinda. Mr. Seibert worked for the Burlington Railroad for a number
of years. He died in August of 1970. Mrs. Seibert had been a resident of West Heights Manor since
November of 1971.
She
was a Charter member of the Open Bible Church in Clarinda.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and four
sisters.
She
is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Rex (Eunice) Snodderly of Nebraska City, and Mrs. M Max (Sara) Good of Seymour, Mo, and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Lyda Neely died this Thursday
Mrs.
Lyda S [tevens] Neely, 86, died
at her home at 901 E State St this Thursday morning. A native of Oklahoma, she
had lived in Page County since 1909. Her husband, Frank Neely, preceded her in death in 1964.
Services
for Mrs. Neely will be at 10
am Saturday at Walker Funeral Home with Rev John Clark officiating. Burial will
be in the Clarinda Cemetery.
Mrs.
Neely had worked in cafes and
homes in Clarinda.
She
is survived by two children, Oral Neely of Clarinda and Mrs. Forrest (Lucille) Snyder of Yorktown. There are four grandchildren.

Henneman. Services were held July
18 at Enid.

Thomas
Services for Mrs. Mona
Thomas were held at Corning last
week following discovery of her body in her room at the Coachman Inn in
Clarinda Oct 18.
The
city rescue unit was called, and Dr E E Zehr as medical examiner reported her
death due to an apparent overdose of sleeping pills, according to the city
police record.
Her services were under
arrangement by Roland Funeral Home at Corning. Her husband, Archie, is a resident of 314 North 17th St, and a son is Tony Fout of

Elmer Scholes, 90, died at hospital
Elmer
[Nelson] Scholes, 90, of
Braddyville died Tuesday afternoon at Municipal Hospital where he had been
hospitalized for the past two weeks.
He
was born Jan 27, 1883, near Shambaugh, the son of George and Elizabeth Blair
Scholes. He was married to Bonnie
Reed August 20, 1913. Mr.
Scholes was a farmer before his
retirement.
Survivors
besides his wife Bonnie of the
home are one son, Lawrence Scholes of Sylvia, Kan, a son-in-law, James Owen of Clarinda, and five grandchildren: Rachel and Lorna Owen, Lanny
Scholes, Kay Ellis and Cheryl Scholes.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Thelma Owen, in 1972.
Funeral services for Mr. Scholes will be at 2 pm, Friday at the United Methodist Church in
Braddyville with Rev Clarence Landis officiating. Jane Young and Ray Osborn Jr.
will be singers with Patricia Hanson organist. Casket bearers will be Max Garrett, Merrille Farnsworth, George Hamm, Knox
McCalla, Art Kenagy and Ross Calhoun. Ushers will be Al Mattes and Stanley
Young. Mrs. Zoe Gates will be at the register. Burial will be in the Covenanter
Cemetery. Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Reed
Services
for Margaret (Bon) Reed, 93,
were held this Monday morning at the Lavelle Funeral Home, with Rev Wayne
Fisher officiating. The vocalist was Mrs. Maurice Rarick, accompanied by Aletha
Hutchings.
Burial
was in Clarinda cemetery. Casket bearers were M M Dryden, Orville Thompson,
Charles Nelson, Ralph Barrows, Robert Haxby and Paul McComb.
Mrs. Reed died early Thursday at West Heights Manor Nursing
Home.
Her brother, Frank, and wife have come from Whittier, Cal, and are
occupying her apartment during their stay. Miss Reed had maintained her home at the Frank Lawson
residence on West Main during her three years residence at West Heights Manor.

Miss
Margaret (Bon) Reed, 93, native
Clarindan who spent her career here as a teacher, died early this Thursday at
West Heights Manor where she had lived in recent years. She had been retired
from her work since 1940.
Arrangements
are pending a decision of a brother, Frank Reed, of Whittier, Cal. Lavelle Funeral Home is making
arrangements, funeral to be at that home and burial in the Clarinda cemetery.
Rev Wayne Fisher of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Miss
Reed was the fourth of eight
children of Martin and Delia Reed,
born Aug 29, 1880 at Villisca.
She
came to Clarinda when almost a year old and has lived here all her life. She
entered the Clarinda Schools and was graduated in 1899. That fall she began
teaching and taught 40 years, 38 of which were in the primary department of
McKinley School.
She
lived with her father at 800 N 17th St but moved after Mr. Reed died in June of 1931. She moved to an apartment
at 206 West Main St and lived there until going to West Heights Manor three
years ago.
She was raised in the Presbyterian faith having joined when 14 years old. She had charge of the Cradle Roll for 30 years, resigning on account of ill health. She was member of Federated Womens Club and a 50-year member of Eastern Star.

Mrs. McDonald services Friday
Services
for Mrs. Nelle McDonald, 83,
of New Market will be held at 10:30 am, Friday at the Trinity United
Presbyterian Church, with Rev Wayne Fisher and Dr J D Almes officiating. Burial
will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery at College Springs.
She
died Tuesday morning at the Municipal Hospital after being hospitalized for
four weeks.
Casket
bearers will be Harold McDonald, Winston Runyan, Kenneth Ripley, Clifford
Jones, Jason Neumeyer and Gary Lininger. Music will be provided by Joe McKinley
and Mrs. Lowell Anderson, accompanied by Mrs. Helen Hoskinson. In charge of the
register books will be Mrs. Gary Lininger and Mrs. Jason Neumeyer. Ushers will
be Edwin Ratashak and Beryl Beery.
Mrs.
McDonald was born Oct 11, 1889,
on a farm near Red Oak, the daughter of George and Lorinda Moore Wubker. Her early schooling was in the country schools
of Montgomery County. She attended high school in Clarinda and Amity College at
College Springs. On Nov 24,1910, she was married to Will McDonald and they made their home on a farm north of
College Springs until 1939 when they moved to a farm south of New Market, then
moved into New Market in 1954. Mr.
McDonald died Nov 13, 1965.
She
was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Turner social club, 20th
Century Club and the 4 and 8 Club.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Helen in 1957, her parents,
and 10 brothers and sisters.
She
is survived by four children, Mrs. Lewis (Ruth) Wells of Clarinda, Robert of Phoenix Ariz., Mrs. Duane (Martha) Thomas of Hamburg, and Bill of New Market; one sister, Mrs. Elsie Jackson of Denver, Colo., one brother, John Wubker of Ogden, Utah, nine grandchildren and five great
- grandchildren.
Lavelle

Mrs. Ellis Clayton employed locally
Mrs.
Ellis (Golda) [Anna Gray] Clayton,
58, died Monday at the home of her son, Lowell, in Braddyville and services are being planned
for Thursday at 2 pm at Walker Funeral Home.
Mrs.
Clayton was employed locally for
many years, in recent years at Sally Ann Bakery and the Branding Iron. Illness
forced her to remain at home at 410 West Clark until going to be with the
Braddyville couple.
The
Rev John Clark of the First Christian Church will officiate at the Thursday
services, and music will be by Mrs. William Kramer and Jack Bridie. Burial will
be at side of her husband, who died March 7, 1970. Bearers will be Lloyd
Cavner, Clark Crawford, Byron Scotton, Orville Preeo, Marvin Woldruff and
Thomas L Harris.
Family
will meet friends at the Walker Funeral Home 7 to 8 pm Wednesday.
Golda is survived by her two children, Lowell Dean
Clayton of Braddyville and Mrs.
Dixie Jean Baker of Clarinda.

Hopkins, Mo, May 3,1915. On June 4,1938, she was married to Ellis Clayton at Glenwood.

Daniels, 20, who was killed
Friday in a car accident. He was a son of [Francis] Duane Daniels of Silver City. Funeral services were Monday at
the funeral home in Bedford. Mrs. Glenn Daniels of Council Bluffs, who was in the parental home
in Bedford, stayed over night Sunday with Rev and Mrs. Lewis Hunter. All
attended funeral services for Larry Daniels.

services for Ross E [dward] Miller,
77, of Clarinda will be held at 2 pm, Friday at the Trinity United Presbyterian
Church, with Rev Wayne Fisher officiating.
Burial
will be in the Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be
George Gerberding, J Will Anderson, Chester Olenius, Angus McIntosh, John
Bayless, Guy Black, Walter Steeve and Clark McKeown. Active Pallbearers will be

Mr.
Miller died Tuesday morning at
his farm south of Clarinda, being found still in bed when his son, Dale, delivered the mail.
The
family will receive friends from 7:30 till 9:00 pm this Thursday evening at the
Lavelle Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Trinity United
Presbyterian Church.
He
was born June 27, 1896 at Clarinda, the son of Thomas [Edward] and Clara
Wilkey Miller. He attended Olive
Branch Country School and served in the Army during World War I. He was married
to Cassie Lawson Dec 4, 1922,
at Ardmore, Okla. They moved onto the family farm south of Clarinda where he
spent his entire life. Mrs. Miller died in July of 1971.
Mr.
Miller was a member of the
Trinity United Presbyterian Church, served on all official boards, was on the
Olive Branch school board for several years, and a member of the World War I
Veterans organization.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three brothers.
He
is survived by four daughters, Mrs. B W (Elaine) Stephan of Dallas, Tex, Mrs. Myron (Marilyn) Ives of Clarinda, Mrs. Robert (Norma Jean) Hall of Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Gerald (Joyce) Warder of Irving, Tex, three sons, Dale and Lawson of Clarinda and Leo of
New Market, and 22 grandchildren. Three sisters are Mrs. E G (Gladys)
Johnson and Miss Merry Miller both of Norman Okla. and Mrs. Arch (Bess) Toner

Charles Hunt, 58, died at Rock Port
Charles
Jackson (Jack) Hunt, 58, of Rock
Port, Mo, son-in-law of Mrs. Mable Anderson, died at 10 am this Thursday at the hospital
where he had been taken during the night. He had been in serious ill health
since surgery in March. He is a native of Rock Port where his father and
grandfather were both lawyers. Jack had recently retired from postal work, being postmaster during recent years.
His
wife was the former Barbara Anderson of Clarinda. They have children Lori Ann and Hal.

Frank W Shields Siam resident
Siam
— Frank W [alter] Shields,
81, who had lived 60 years of his life in this community, died Wednesday at
9:50 pm at the Gillespie Nursing Home in Clarinda. He had been in ill health
for eight years.
His
services are to be Saturday, the funeral at 2:30 pm at the Siam Christian
Church and burial in the Shearer Cemetery southwest of Siam. Carl Cummings will
be in charge of the services with Loren Daly assisting. Swanson Funeral Home at
Hopkins is making arrangements.
Mr.
Shields was born in Adams County
on April 26, 1892, to Joseph [Milton] and Amelia Walter Shields. He received his schooling in Page County, moving
with his parents to the Siam vicinity in 1912. He had been a farmer in Taylor
County, was a member of the Christian Church of Siam and had attained a 50-year
membership in Siam's Plumb Lodge No 285 AF&AM.
His
wife is Fannie [Mildred] Reid Shields, and four children are Reid Shields of near Siam, Mrs. C J (Ruth) Shreck of West Des Moines, Mrs. Clark (Betty)
Crawford of Clarinda and Mrs.
Robert (Billie) Rollstin of East
Lansing, Mich. He has 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
His
brothers and sisters are Mrs. Elsie Hulpian of San Bernardino, Cal, Mrs. Viva [Amelia]

William Cabeen native of Coin
Services
were held in Des Moines this Thursday for William A [rthur] Cabeen, 79, who died Monday of a heart condition in
Veterans hospital in Des Moines.
A
native of Coin, he had lived in Chariton for 14 years, and had farmed before
retiring several years ago. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the
American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He attended the United
Presbyterian Church.
Survivors
include his wife, Ina, a
daughter, Mrs. Madlyn
Arthur of Des Moines; a brother, Robert [Emmett] of St Joseph; two sisters, Gracy Cabeen of Clarinda and Mrs. Pearl Ryplema of St Joseph and one grandson.

Clevidence, 77, husband of the
former Aletha Earhart, died at
Kansas City last Thursday. He had been in failing health, hospitalized on
occasions since December. Services were held Monday at Kansas City.

Harold Hoskins was born in Page County
Harold
Wallace Hoskins died Tuesday, in
the St Joseph Methodist Hospital of carcinoma, and services will be at 2:00 pm
Friday at the Breit-Hawkins Funeral Home in Savannah, Mo. Services will be
conducted by Rev Joseph Munshaw, with internment in the Blockow, Mo, cemetery.
Mr.
Hoskins was born Dec 10, 1895, in
Page County where he was reared, and farmed until 1941 when he and his family
moved to Blockow. He was the son of Martha Carolyn Damewood Hoskins and Jessie Wallace Hoskins. On Jan 6, 1917, he was married to Thelma Avis
Godbey.
He
is survived by five children: Mrs. Hallene Paul of Waterloo; Mrs. Helen Syre of Portland, Ore; Mrs.
Norma Varley of Des Moines; Hoyt
Hoskins of Blockow, and Norris
Hoskins of St Joseph; 11 grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a
brother.

Mrs. Beavers died
Mrs.
Gene (Betty) Beavers, 28, of
Creston died Wednesday evening at Mercy Hospital in Omaha following a cerebral
hemorrhage. Services will be at Corning, arrangements pending. Mrs. Dennis
Carlson is a sister of Mr.
Beavers and Roy Beavers a grandfather, both of Clarinda.

Clarindan's brother in
accident
Howard
Stickelman, 64, brother of Keith
Stickelman of Clarinda, was an
accident victim in north California Tuesday. Details are still lacking, but
another car is believed to have been involved.
Howard had been visiting in Clarinda recently, but had
returned to Lincoln, Cal, and was on a drive outside his home area. He has a
son and a daughter in California. His wife died last December. The funeral was
to be at Lincoln this Thursday and burial there.
