Mrs. Helena Goecker burial this Monday
Funeral
services for Mrs. Helena [Alvina Renter] Goecker, 83, of Wessington Springs, S D, were held this
Monday at 2 pm, at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Yorktown.
She
died Wednesday at a Wessington Springs Hospital.
Pastor
Gary Arp officiated. Burial under the direction of the Lavelle Funeral Home was
in Summit Cemetery [Wednesday, January 3rd]. Casketbearers were Ivan
Sunderman, John and Orval Otte and Wilbur Goecker. Ushers were Rudolf and
Curtis Meier. Services had been held Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church in
Wessington Springs.
She
was born Jan 25, 1889, in Germany, and came to the United States at an early
age. She was confirmed at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Yorktown. She was
married to [John] Edward
Goecker at Madison, Neb, and they
lived at Yorktown for one year after their marriage, with the remaining years
were spent in South Dakota. Mr. Goecker died in July of 1960. The past year and a half she had been in a
nursing home.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and three
sisters.
She
is survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends,

Mrs. Noros Martin former
Clarindan
Mrs.
Noros H (Nellie) Martin, 89,
formerly of Clarinda and of Wichita Falls, Tex, since 1917, died Dec 21 in a
Wichita Falls hospital.
She
was the former Nellie Potts,
born at Sidney Oct 5, 1883, has had an unusually active life. Mayor Winston at
Wichita Falls in 1965 declared a Nellie Martin Recognition Day, honoring Mrs. Martin as a
pioneer community and church leader.
She
was active in Daughters of the American Revolution, Woman's Forum, Wichita
Falls Museum and Art Center and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Mrs.
Martin's late husband, N. H. Martin
was founder, of the Country Club Estates and donated the original 40 acres of
land for Midwestern University in 1934.
Martin
Plaza and MU's Martin Building, formerly Martin Library, commemorate the
generosity of the Martins.

Services to be Tuesday
for Warren Richardson
Funeral
services for Warren [Sayre] Richardson, 86, of Clarinda will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday at the Westminster
Presbyterian Church.
A
native of Clarinda, Mr. Richardson
died at his home Saturday afternoon following a lengthy illness.
He
had served as president of the Richardson Lumber Co from 1936 until 1956 when
he retired, and had been active in lumber associations, serving as president of
the Northwestern Lumbermen's Assn and state association.
He
was charter member and past president of the Clarinda Country Club, and had
served on the board of the Page County Savings and Loan. He was a 50-year
member of the Nodaway Lodge 140 AF&AM at Clarinda and an active member of
the Westminster United Presbyterian Church.
The
son of G. [eorge] W. [illiam] and Mary Sayer Richardson, he was born Sept 30, 1886, at Clarinda, He
attended schools in Clarinda and college at Lake Forest, Il1. On Sept 9,1909 he
was united in marriage to Gertrude Henderson in Clarinda. He was preceded in death by his
parents, one daughter in infancy and one sister.
He
is survived by his wife Gertrude,
one daughter Mrs. Dean (Mary) Hood
of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., two sons, G. [eorge] W. of Clarinda and Warren A. of Long Beach, Calif, five grandchildren two
great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Lyle Cassat of Clarinda and Mrs. Doris Mutz of Walnut Creek, Calif.
A
memorial is being established at the Westminster Presbyterian Church The Rev D.
C. Davis will officiate at the services with burial in the Clarinda Cemetery,
Casketbearers will be Darrel Davison, Dr. Frederick Sperry, John Sperry, Edwin
Lisle, James Millhone and Richard Davidson. At the register book will be Mrs.
C. E. Bradley and Mrs. H. E. Davidson.
Ushers will be Kenneth Heiliger. J. Y. Biggs, George Segrist and Ferrell
Reed. The organist will be Mrs. William Lisle.
Lavelle
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Richardson
Lumber will be closed, until noon Tuesday and Page County Bank will close from
10-11:30 for the services.

Funeral Tuesday for John
Shannon
Funeral
services for John Shannon, 68,
of New Market will be held at 1 pm, Tuesday at the Lavelle Funeral Home, with
Rev Cecil Latta and Rev Dwight Crosby officiating. Further services will be
held at 2 pm Wednesday at the Stapp Funeral Home at Mountain
Grove, Mo. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Mountain Grove.
He
died Sunday morning at the Municipal Hospital after being admitted earlier in
the morning.
He
was born Jan 5, 1903 at Mountain Grove, Mo the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Shannon. He grew up in that area
and was married to Mabel Robertson,
Jan 20, 1924, at Mountain Grove. He was engaged in farming there until 1955
when they moved to Westboro, Mo. In 1969 they moved to Clarinda. He was
employed by the Clarinda Public Schools for eight years as a bus driver and
later worked at the Mental Health Institute for five years. They moved to New
Market in January of 1970. He had been custodian at the Methodist Church since
October of 1969.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and one son in 1949.
He
is survived by his wife, Mabel; five daughters, Mrs. Wilbur (Winifred)
Stanfield of Los Angeles, Calif, Mrs. S. O. (Edith) McMahan of Kansas City,
Mrs. C. W. (Geneva) Wade of Orinda, Calif, Mrs. Terry (Veta Sue) Miller of
Ceresco, Nebr, and Mrs. Donald (Freeda) Zurbuchen of Kansas City; two sons,
Howard of Tulsa Okla.; and Dr Roy Shannon of Los Angeles, Calif; 13
grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Carl Cutsinge of
Ocean Side, Calif. and Mrs. George Shaw of Hiawassee, Ga; one brother, Ed of
Mountain Grove.

Jan 12 at the Wakefield, Neb., hospital. Funeral services were held Jan 15 at
the Wakefield Lutheran Church, with burial at the Wakefield cemetery.

Clarindan's mother died in Maryville
Mrs.
Pearl Tina Miller, 71, the mother
of Mrs. Mary Herzberg of
Clarinda, died early this morning at St Francis Hospital in Maryville, Mo,
after a long illness.
Services
will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in
Maryville with the Rev Harry Spears officiating. Burial will be in Coffee, Mo.
Mrs.
Miller was born Sept 8, 1901, in
Jamesport, Mo, to Price and Odi Robertson. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Maryville.
Other
survivors are a brother, Pervis Robertson of Hamilton, Mo, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. , _.
