At the time of his death, he was the oldest business man in Clarinda, and he so honorably conducted his affairs that he will be greatly missed by his associates in business as well as in social relationships. He always greeted those he met with a bright smile and a word of cheer. He was noted for his charity work. For many years, until this work was taken over by the organized charities, he always gave well-filled baskets of food and clothing to the poor and needy at Christmas. He made yearly visits to the County Home, to make those who were unfortunate there a little happier with gifts of candy, fruit, magazines and other things. Despite his limited income, he has helped many with gifts and loans, asking nothing for himself in return.
At the age of 17 years he united with the Church of Christ in Taylor county, Iowa. After his removal to Page county, he attended and helped various churches, including the Christian, the United Brethren and the Methodist churches. When his health permitted, and till his hearing became more difficult, he attended the Methodist church with his children and grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed in this community, but our loss will be his gain. He will surely receive his just reward, here and hereafter.
The funeral services were conducted by the Rev W.H. Meredith, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church of Clarinda, at the Walker Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The burial was in Old Memory cemetery west of New Market, Iowa. The music was furnished by Mrs Forest Davidson and Mrs C.E. Hoskinson. The pallbearers were Jack Wenner, Clay Swisher, Chas. Joels, Chas. Kelly, Roy Herren and Fred Sperry. CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Jan 21, 1952

Corbin, Israel James - The 20th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs I.J. Corbin, was celebrated Saturday, April 15th in a very unique way. The children, B.L. Clark and wife, Everett Corbin and wife, Hubert Corbin and wife, W.C. Ellison and wife and Bert McCarl and wife, and grandchildren Paul Clark and wife and Lloyd Shore and wife, each contributed something that would to to the making of a delicious dinner. Mrs Bert McCarl of Sac City sending a fine angel food cake with pink trimming. Saturday afternoon while Mrs Corbin was absent from home, her house was entered by the way of skeleton keys and the dining table was laden with the good things. Upon Mrs Corbins return, and entering the dining room, she could hardly believe her eyes, and after looking the things over carefully a paper was discovered with a piece of poetry on that had been composed, appropriate to the occasion. We did not learn the composers name, and only lack of space prevents us from printing the poetry. Mr and Mrs Corbin will long remember the thoughtfulness of their children. He became identified with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church about ten years ago, and has always been a consistent member of that organization. The day following the death of the deceased, Rev H.W. Zentz preached a funeral discourse in the M.E. church at Memory, to a densely crowded house, the text being the 14th chapter of Revelations and the 13 verse. Her husband died several years ago. Burial was to be in Old Memory Cemetery. CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Oct 26, 1959
Mrs Pearl Crawford passed away Friday morning Oct 23, 1959, at the University Hospital at Iowa City after a seige of suffering from cancer.
For the past ten months she has had everything possible done to make her last days on earth as peaceful as possible, knowing that the disease had developed to an incurable stage and that the end was just a matter of time.
She had been tenderly cared for during this time at the home of her daughter, Mrs Ronald Anderson, and family. She had been confined to their home for many months and suffered greatly with a malady that baffled medical science.
In her death the community loses a woman of many virtues and she will be sincerely mourned by all who ever came in contact with her.
Practically all her life had been spent in this immediate vicinity, and her many deeds of kindness and helpful administrations will long remain bright spots in the hearts and minds of countless numbers.
Ethel Pearl Shore, oldest daughter of the late Miles and Annie Reeves Shore, was born in Mitchell County, Kansas, near Beloit, Aug 19, 1884. At the age of six years she moved with her parents to Taylor County, Iowa, one-half mile east of New Market. Here she grew to womanhood, attending the New Market public school. She graduated from high school in the class of 1901. She attended Highland Park College in Des Moines and taught school in the rural schools and in the New Market school.
In early age, she confessed faith in her Saviour and united with the Methodist Church.
She was united in marriage to Oren C. Crawford on March 15, 1904. To this union three children were born. The oldest, Harry Robert, passed away at birth. The two living children are Kenneth Miles Crawford of Auburn, Calif, and Ethel Lucille Anderson of Durant, Ia.
Her husband's untimely death resulting from an accident occurred Dec 23, 1928. After the death of her husband she moved to New Market.
In 1929, she became a nurse in the Mental Health Institute at Clarinda, ministering daily to the ills and needs of mankind less fortunate. After a quarter century of service she retired and enjoyed her home life.
Mrs Crawford leaves to mourn her passing her son, Kenneth Crawford and wife Lucille, and grandson, Jack Crawford; her daughter, Ethel, and husband, Ronald Anderson and grandchildren, Joyce, Carl and Matthew Anderson.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs T.A. Harris and Mrs G.R. Webb of New Market; one brother, Miles Victor Shore of Winter Haven, Fla, besides a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
We shall miss her greatly, but in faith we trust Him who doeth all things well. Although her figure is gone, we find comfort in the words of the Author when he said "There is no death. Thy stars go down to shine upon some fairer shore and bright in Heaven's jeweled crown they shine forevermore."
Although she is gone from our sight, we will not forget her sweet lessons of love and purity which comfort our hearts with the thoughts that though she cannot return to us we may go to her and abide in the land where there is no parting and with all our grief and sorrow we look to Him who doeth all things well. "Thy way, Thy will be done." CLARINDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Nov 2, 1959

Uncle Jerry, as he was known to his many friends, was a man of sterling integrity, a friend to every man, charitable, kind and thoughtful for the welfare of the distressed and needy.
Let us draw around his errors, what ever they may have been, the broad mantle of Christian charity, and remember only the virtues of the noble life he lived in the service of humanity. And so, may the sable curtain close around him and let him sleep quietly until the Great Master Builder shall awaken him on the glad morning of the resurrection.
