Allison, Donna Brattin - Donna Louise (Brattin) Allison was born June 17, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas, to Robert and Jimmie (White) Brattin.

Donna's father, Robert, was in the USAF and the family traveled with his job. She met her husband Jay while her sisters were dating other men in the squadron. Donna and Jay were married November 30, 1973, in Orlando, Fla, and she continued with being a navy wife for 20 years.

Donna loved her children and grandchildren and they were all very special to her. She enjoyed her church, church family, drawing, art and crafts.

In 2008, Donna was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Clarinda. She will be missed by all those she leaves behind. Donna passed away suddenly Jun 21, 2012 at the Clarinda Regional Health center. She is preceded in death by her father Robert Brattin.

Donna is survived by her husband Jay of Clarinda; children Tabatha (Dennis) Hamilton of Clarinda and Jason Charles (Brady) Allison of Clarinda, grandchildren Brian, Sabrina, Blake, Evan, Jordyn, Zola and Emmett, mother Jimmie Brattin of Orlando, Fla, sisters Eva Rahn of Orlando, Fl, Debra Curry of Orlando, Fla, and Candy Martin of Jupiter, Fla, sister-in-law Marge Harris of Clarinda.

Memorial services for Donna were held Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Clarinda with Pastor Mitch Grossoehme officiating. Burial followed the service in the Memory Cemetery in New Market. Memorials are suggest to the family of Donna.

Anderson, Harvey - 27 Apr and 16 Apr 1942

The very uncertainty of life has again been revealed and brought a deep realization, by the sudden passing of Harvey Anderson early Thursday morning, April 16. Without a moment's warning he was called to answer the final summons when struck by a bolt of lightning while attending his morning chores. Few people realized there had been any severe lightning, even his family unaware of it until they investigated his prolonged absence, only to find him dead. His death has cat a deep gloom of sorrow over the entire community where he was so well and favorably known.

John Harvey Anderson, second son of Ruben and Ada Maxwell Anderson, was born July 12, 1900, in Mason township, Taylor county, and passed away April 16, 1942, at the age of 41 years, 9 months and 4 days. His entire life has been spent in Taylor county and the New Market vicinity. He followed his chosen occupation of farming all his life, but for the past several years he has been active in the auctioneer business and last summer graduated from the Bradley auctioneer school at Nashville, Tenn.

On June 29, 1921, he was married to Glacile McAlpin and to this union four children were born: Deloris, now employed at the state hospital in Clarinda; Harold, at the parental home; Lois, Arlene and Donna Lee who have been tenderly cared for by the grandparents, Mr and Mrs Ruben Anderson since the death of the mother, who passed away five years ago this summer.

On Nov 26, 1941, Mr Anderson was married to Miss Ferne Farnham of Gravity. They immediately established their home north of New Market, only to have it entered and broken by death after less than five months of wedded life.

At an early age the deceased united with the Christian church at New Market where his church interests were still centered.

Harvey, as he was familiarly known by all, was kind-hearted, affectionate and devoted to his family; a thoughtful son and brother; a good neighbor and a true friend to those with whom he had close associations. His was such a disposition that he could be cheerful even under trying conditions; always looking on the bright side of life, hopeful of a better future and a smile for everyone. Of him it can be truly said he was always ready to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed, willing to go more than halfway to bear his share of the burden or responsibility, and any service he could render was freely given. Trials and sorrows he himself had borne seemed only to deepen his sympathy and add greater significance to his duty to his loved ones; likewise as a neighbor or friend to fellow men.

Those left to mourn his passing are his devoted companion of a few short months, the children and parents, a brother, Harry of Woodward, Ia, one sister, Mrs Elbert Miller of New Market and a host of other relatives and a very large circle of friends who sincerely mourn his untimely death.

Funeral services were held at the New Market Christian church Saturday afternoon, April 11, with Rev C.M. Eppard in charge. Burial was in Old Memory cemetery. Anderson, Ben Perry - Ben Anderson, age 91, of New Market, Iowa, died Thursday, January 18, 2001, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral services were held 10:30 am, Monday, January 22, 2001, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Rev Dan Wiebesiek officiating. Ben Anderson was born January 13, 1910, in Clearfield, Iowa, to John and Belle (Franklin) Anderson. He was a 1928 graduate of Clearfield High School and attended Nebraska Wesleyan College. He was united in marriage to Mary Swan on June 21, 1936. He was owner of the Rose and Tuttle lumberyard at New Market, Iowa. Ben was an active member of the United Methodist Church, New Market, Iowa, serving on all church boards and was Sunday School Superintendent for a number of years. Ben was a member of the Gideons. He was a member of the Plainsmen's chorus. Ben was active in fraternal and civic organizations. He was a long term member of the New Market Masonic Lodge, serving as secretary for over 50 years, a member of the Moila Shrine, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was coordinator of the New Market centennial in 1981. Ben was a past school board member of the New Market School District, New Market city clerk, on the library board of New Market, and on the board of the Taylor County Historical Society.

Survivors include his wife Mary, a resident of Westridge Manor, Clarinda, Iowa; children: Ann LaFontaine and husband Wayne of Urbandale, Iowa; Charles (Ed) and wife Janice of Gresham, Oregon; Margaret Johnson and husband Jim of Hart, Michigan; Birdice Jobe and husband Jim of New Market, Iowa; Teresa Harbacheck and husband Joe of Boise, Idaho; 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and a brother Edward Anderson and wife Thelma of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Anderson, Claude E. - Claude E. Anderson, 70, of College Springs died late Tuesday at the University hospital at Iowa City where he had been a patient for 12 days.

Anderson, Coleman Eddie - Coleman Eddie Anderson was born at New Market, Iowa, November 19, 1916. He passed away at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital, March 29, 1981 after a long illness and fight with cancer. He was the son of Claude and Nina Anderson. He was married to Lillian F. Thomson on September 16, 1972. He is survived by his wife of the home, a daughter Terrell Sue (Mrs Donald McClarnon) of Shambaugh; four grandchildren: Gail Colleen, Mickey, Donnell and Dustin all of Shambaugh; daughter Crystal of Red Oak, son Kenneth E. of Red Oak, an uncle Pete Anderson of Clarinda and a cousin Floyd (Andy) Anderson of Edwards, Missouri; stepchildren Paul Thomson of Twin Bridges, Montana; Patty Spencer of Kansas City, Kansas; Norma Jean Milleur of Langley, Washington; Marvin Beattie of Maryville, Missouri and John Wayne Beattie of Jefferson City, Missouri. Preceding him in death were his father and mother, two infant sons, Stephen and Michael, sister Mrs June Richards and an uncle William Anders.

Coleman served in the armed forces, 1941-1945, overseas duty and upon his return he farmed with his folks around the Braddyville area. He was also co-owner of an Anderson roofing in Clarinda for several years. He was forced to retire from his job with Page County Road Maintenance because of his illness. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion. He served as commander of the Braddyville Legion Post for a year and later transferred his membership to Post 88 in Clarinda. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 31st at 3:00 pm at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home. Rev Eddie Fidler and Rev Harland Gant officiating. Casket bearers were Herb Meyers, James Whipple, Steve Allbaugh, Terry Randolph, Wendell McClarnon and Dale Gray. Anderson, Evanda L. Garnett - Mrs Evanda L. Anderson, 79 of Clarinda died Tuesday morning at Bethesda Care Center.

She was born November 26, 1912 at St Joseph, Mo, the daughter of Will and Arcelia VanScoy Garnett. She was married to Tom Anderson who preceded her in death in 1969.

She is survived by three step sons: Dave Anderson, Clarinda, Wayne Anderson, Shenandoah, and Jack Anderson, Red Oak.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, November 25 at Memory Cemetery at New Market with Rev John Clark officiating.

Mrs Anderson left here in June, accompanied by her daughter, for a few months visit at their former home in England. Funeral services were held at the Walker Funeral home Wednesday for James V. Anderson, 81, who died here Monday [Aug 25]. Rev R.G. Smiley was in charge of the funeral services, and the body was interred in Memory cemetery.

A resident of the county for the past sixty years, he is survived by eight children, sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, also a brother. His wife preceded him in death in August, 1934.

James V. Anderson was born on March 11, 1860 at Shireton, Ia and died at Clarinda August 25 at 4:45 pm at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 14 days. His wife Lyda Anderson preceded him in death ug 15, 1934.

Eight children survive including Pearl, Claude, Harry, James Clayton, Willie, Mrs Mary Clark, Mrs Hazel Jewell and Mrs Corda Cross. Also sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren and a brother, A.O. Anderson of Knoxville.

The deceased had lived for 60 years in Page county.

Anderson, Martha - New Market (Special)--Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church for Mrs Martha Anderson, 76, a native of New Market. Rev E.L. Field was in charge. Interment was made in Memory cemetery.

Mrs Anderson died Thursday afternoon at her home after a lingering illness. She is survived by eight children.

Anderson, Nina L. McKinley - Mrs Claude (Nina L.) Anderson, 81, died at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital Wednesday after a prolonged illness. She had been hospitalized for two days. The daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Nancy Ann Mishler McKinley, she was born near New Market, and had spent her lifetime in Page and Taylor counties. At the time of her death she was living in College Springs.

She is survived by three children, Carl L. Villers of Portland, Ore, Coleman Anderson and Margaret June Richards, both of College Springs; one brother, James Henry McKinley of Villisca; and three sisters, Mrs Margaret Carmichael and Mrs Blanche Osborn, both of Clarinda and Mrs Fay Brooks, Zilla, Washington.

Anderson, Tom

Thomas Anderson was born in Dewsbury Moor, Yorkshire, England, in 1865. The family came to America in 1881 and settled at Angus, Boone county, Iowa. Mr Anderson lived there for three years and then came to New Market. He was united in marriage to Martha Atwood in 1886. To this union were born twelve children, three of whom, Henry, Charlie and Martha Anderson, preceded their father in death. The living children are Mrs Millie Roberts, Mrs Nellie Stout, David Anderson, Mrs Florence Clayton, Mrs Hazel McCoy, Mrs Neva Montgomery, Tommy and Robert Anderson.

After a short illness, Mr Anderson passed away at his home December 29, 1932, age of 67 years. He is survived by his wife, two sisters, three brothers, nine children, twenty-two grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Brockman, Barbara Jean - Little Barbara Jean Brockman, 1 1/2 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Clark Brockman, passed away at 8 o'clock Wednesday evening, having been seriously ill only since 3 o'clock in the afternoon, at the home of her parents southwest of Clarinda. She had been ill three days. Besides her parents she leaves three bothers to mourn the loss of the loved one.

Clayton, Florence Anderson - Mrs Florence Clayton, 89,of Hepburn died April 19, 1985 at Good Samaritan Rest Home in Villisca where she had been a resident for the past three years.

She was born Oct 14, 1895 at New Market, the daughter of Tom and Martha Atwood Anderson.

On July 22, 1918 she was married to Virgil Clayton who preceded her in death in 1980. They lived in Page and Taylor counties most of their lives.

Mrs Clayton is survived by six children: Alvin Clayton of New Market, Mrs Bud (Deloma) Robinson, Crane, Mo; Mrs Melvin (Geraldine) O'Neal of New Market, LaVerne Clayton of Boone, Marvin Clayton of Council Bluffs, and Mrs Abe (Betty) Herzberg of Riverton, Wyo. There are 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held this Monday afternoon at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Carl Cummings officiating.

Malmberg, Dorothy Brownlee Schantz - Funeral services for Dorothy Schantz Malmberg, were held August 30, 2001, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak, Ia, with the Rev Myron Meyer, officiating. Burial was in the North Page Cemetery.

She was born November 1, 1911, in Page County, Ia, southwest of Villisca, to Harry and Jennie (Wood) Brownlee. She died on August 26, 2001, at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Ia.

She was reared southwest of Villisca and united in marriage to Lowell J. Schantz on May 22, 1929, at Maryville, Mo. They moved to Red Oak in 1943. She worked at Bon Ton Cleaners, Murphy Calendar Company, and 23 years for Union Carbide Battery Company. After the death of Lowell on March 26, 1983, Dorothy married Leland Malmberg on January 15, 1987, in Red Oak. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lowell, son Keith, five brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by husband Leland Malmberg of Red Oak, Ia; son Richard Schantz and wife Christine of Riverside, Ca; daughter-in-law Bernadine Schantz of Covina, Ca; eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; two step-children, Rosie Williams and husband Jim of Bellevue, Ia; and David Malmberg and wife Bev, of Prescott, Az; five step-grandchildren and eleven step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

McClure, Samuel Young - Samuel Young McCune, son of Robert and Margaret McCune, was born in Montgomery County, Iowa, Oct 19, 1877.

He was the youngest of a family of seven children. His father, mother, five brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, uniting when he was a young boy.

Sept 15, 1915 he was joined in marriage with Ethel Butler at Gravity, Ia. To this union five children were born Harold of Bedford, Mrs Carl (Marjorie) Winger of Hopkins, Mo, Mrs Virginia Campbell of Denver, Colo, Mrs Roger (Pauline ) Flynn of Tampa, Fla. Margaret Darlene passed away in infancy.

He had farmed in Page and Taylor Counties until moving to the residence in Clarinda 11 years ago.

Since 1945 he had been in ailing health. He suffered a paralytic stroke 10 years ago from which he never recovered.

He died at the Municipal Hospital April 11, 1957, at the age of 79 years, five months and 22 days. He is survived by his wife, four children, five grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held April 13 at the Walker Funeral Home. The Rev J.D. Almes, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, officiated. McCune, Allen Paul - Allen Paul McCune, infant son of Mr and Mrs Harold McCune of Bedford, died Wednesday morning, Nov 14, in the Maryville hospital, where he was born, Nov 2, 1951. The baby weighed two pounds five and one-half ounces.

McCune, Ethel Clarise Butler - Ethel Clarise Butler was born October 1, 1893 near Shambaugh, Iowa. Her parents were William E. Butler and Temperance Hidelbaugh Butler. She attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College at Maryville, Mo where she earned a certificate in the field of education. She taught in the rural schools around Hopkins, Mo and in Page County for five years.

In 1915 she was united in marriage to S.Y. McCune of Villisca. They became the parents of five children and four deceased daughters, Harold McCune of Bedford; Marjorie (Mrs Carl Winger) of Bedford; Pauline (Mrs Roger D. Flynn) of Tampa, Fl; Virginia Shannon of Omaha and baby Darlene.

Ethel has six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was when her grandchildren came to visit her.

Mr McCune spent her entire life in Page and Taylor Counties except for a short time, when as a child, she moved by covered wagon with her family to Oklahoma.

Ethel cared for her husband for 10 years during his illness. After his death in 1957, she worked in various homes in Clarinda caring for the sick and elderly. Ethel was also employed at the Clarinda Bakery and spent many hours babysitting for children in various homes.

Ethel was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where she faithfully attended until her health no longer permitted her to take part.

Ethel maintained her own home until the age of 95. Her own mother died when Ethel was only ten years old so she felt it was important that her own children know and appreciate a mother's loving care.

Mrs McCune died Monday, June 2nd at Community Care Center in Clarinda where she had lived for the past ten years.

McCune, Robert - Died, at his residence in the northern part of Valley township, at 6:30 am, the 19th inst., Robert McCune, after a somewhat protracted illness. The funeral services were held at the North Page United Presbyterian church on Tuesday, and were conducted by Rev Dr David Dodds. A large number of sympathizing friends and neighbors attended the obsequies, and followed the remains to their final resting place in the North Page cemetery. Father McCune was an exceptionally pleasant man. His even temperament and kind heart constituted him one of the truest and most agreeable friends. His death is a sore affliction to the widowed wife and bereaved children, while sadness has entered each and every home in the entire community. A good man is to earth what an angel is to heaven. Miller, Helen Elaine Brannan - Helen Elaine (Brannan) Miller, 63, of Omaha, Nebraska passed away on July 13 at Omaha's Lakeside Hospital after a short hospitalization.

She was born in Villisca, Iowa on November 12, 1948 to the late Irma and Robert Brannan, who farmed southwest of Villisca. She attended Villisca schools where she was active in Drama, Speech and Music, and worked on the high school paper and the High School year book. Following graduation in 1966, she attended Northwest Missouri State College and Iowa State University.

Helen worked as a State of Nebraska Social Worker in Omaha for many years, and described her employment there as the "best job ever" as she was able to help people every day. She had also worked for the Quest Dex yellow pages for several years.

She is survived by daughter Laura Miller, Phoenix, Az, son David Miller and his wife Vessna, Phoenix, A; two grandchildren, Patrick and Magdalene Miller, Phoenix, Az; three brothers Maury (Judy), Enid, Ok, Bob (Nancy), Omaha, Ne, Jim (Cheryl), Central, SC, and her long time companion Joe Lake, Omaha, Ne. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends.

A memorial service and luncheon will be held at the Villisca Community Center at 11 am on August 4th, 2012. The service will be led by Pastor Sandy Wainwright from the Presbyterian Church of Villisca. Moore, Charles A. - Charles A. Moore, son of Charles C. and Mary Moore, was born May 26, 1872, in the North Page vicinity southwest of Villisca and died June 30, 1956, at 11:15 pm at his home at 509 E. Sixth street in Villisca, at the age of 84 years, his death resulting from a heart ailment.

He was married Feb 14, 1895, in Villisca to Lulu Welch who survives him, as do also one brother, Harry of Anacortes, Wash., one sister, Minnie of Omaha, Mrs Roberta Schantz of St Joseph, Mo, and Mrs Dorothy Goosey of Spokane, Wash, who for years made their home with Mr and Mrs Moore, and their children, Sharon and David Schantz and Jackie Goosey.

Mr Moore was a member of the Presbyterian church for many years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 3 at 2 pm at the Sutphen funeral home, conducted by the Rev Alvin D. Sigafus.

The singing was by Cecil Weaver, accompanied by Mrs Mabel Dunn, and in charge of the flowers were Mmes Carrie, Nora, Hazel and Stella Fisher. Pallbearers were Fen, Earl and Paul Fisher, Glen Schantz and Arnold and Robert Moore, and interment was in the North Page cemetery.

Moore, Lulu Welsh - Funeral services for Lulu I. Moore were held Tuesday, July 1 at 2 pm from the Presbyterian Church. Clergyman was Dr J. Donald Almes.

Paul Fisher, Fen Fisher, Theo Schantz, Alvin Zellmer, Henry Kernen, and Robert Moore were pallbearers. Flowerbearers were Mrs Fern Miller and Mrs Pauline Day.

Mrs Mabel Dunn presented the musical selections "In The Garden" and "Some Day We'll Understand". Mrs Icle Fisher was in charge of the register. Ushers were Quincy Dunn and George Muller, Jr.

Obituary - Louise Isadore Moore was born October 8, 1874 at Villisca, Iowa. She was the daughter of Paul and Nettie Welsh, jeweler for many years in Villisca.

Lulu Moore was married February 14, 1893 to Charles Augustus Moore of Villisca, Iowa.

Mr and Mrs Charles Moore lived their entire life in the immediate vicinity of Villisca. To this union were born no children; they raised two girls as their own, Dorothy Hakes and Roberta G. Schantz.

Mrs Moore was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband Charles who passed away June 1956, three sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by the children she raised and their families: Dorothy Hakes, Mr and Mrs Glen Schantz, Mr and Mrs David Schantz of St Joseph, Mo; Mr and Mrs Macklin Wilkinson, and two great-grandchildren, Gregory and Christopher Wilkinson of Wathena, Kansas.

Osborn, Blanche M. Winter - Mrs Blanche M. Osborn, who has been a resident of the Stuart Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa, for the last five years, died Tuesday, February 24.

Mrs Osborn, daughter of Mr and Mrs J.W. Winter, was born in October 1897, in Montgomery County. In 1918, she married Ned Osborn who survives her. She is also survived by two sons, Donald of Muscatine, Ia and Richard of Oshkosh, Wis. Local relatives are her sisters, Mrs K.K. Kennedy of Nodaway and Miss Mae Winter of Villisca.

Donald Dean Osborn was born April 5, 1922, in Villisca, Ia, to Ned and Blanche Winter Osborn. He died March 21, 1999 at the Community Health Resources, Muscatine, Ia.

He married Emogene Faye Strausbaugh in 1949 in Ames, Ia. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Muscatine, Ia, the VFW, the Institute of Electrical Engineers, and a graduate of Iowa State University. He was an electrical engineer at Stanley Consultants where he was vice-president. He served on the National Electric Code committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife in 1989.

He is survived by sons Larry J. Osborn and wife Connie, Muscatine, Ia; David L. Osborn, Davenport, Ia; and Melvin R. Osborn, Lake Tahoe, Ca; daughter Patricia A. Osborn, Emogene F. Strausbaugh - Funeral services for Emogene "Jean" Osborn, 62, of Muscatine were held on November 29, 1989. Burial was the North Page Cemetery, southwest of Villisca, Ia.

Imogene Fay, daughter of Edward J. and Anise Fay Bolen Strausbaugh, was born in Ames on November 26, 1927, and died on November 26, 1989. She died on her 62nd birthday and 50th wedding anniversary.

She great up on the family farm west of Ames, in Jackson Township, Boone County, Iowa. She attended the Jordan Consolidated School, graduating in 1945. She continued her education at Iowa State University, graduating with a B.S. home economics in 1949.

She was united in marriage to Donald D. Osborn on November 26, 1949, in Ames. She taught school at Cooper during the 1950-51 school year. The couple moved to Muscatine in 1952.

Survivors include her husband, Donald, formerly of Villisca; three sons, Larry J. of Muscatine, David L. of Iowa City, and Melvin R. of Lake Tahoe, Ca; one daughter, Patricia A. Phelps of Citrus Heights, Ca; three grandchildren; and a brother, Ernest Strausbaugh of Ames.

Osborn, Ned Cecil - Ned Cecil, son of Benjamin L. Osborn and Mary F. (Simpson) Osborn, was born at Nodaway, November 15, 1898, and passed away at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, On November 29, 1985, after a short illness.

As a boy he lived at Nodaway, Creston and Villisca, graduating from Villisca High School in 1917. He began working as an electrician while in high school and was involved in the electric power industry most of his adult life. He served as superintendent of Stuart Municipal Utilities from 1942 until his retirement in 1967.

Ned enlisted for service in World War I in 1918 at Fort Collins, Co, and at the end of the war was at the Field Artillery Officers Training School, Camp Taylor, Ky.

On September 15, 1918, he was united in marriage to one of his high school classmates, Blanche M. Winter at the Methodist parsonage in Corning. Two sons were born to this union. Their principal places of residence were Villisca and Stuart.

Ned joined the Methodist Church as a youth and served as an officer for many years at the Stuart Methodist Church. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and Consistory. A Past Master of the Stuart Lodge and a Masonic District Lecturer. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Gladys Moore; and his wife. He is survived by his sons, Donald and his wife of Muscatine, and Richard and his wife of Oshkosh, Wi; one brother, Harold Osborn of Corpus Christi, Tx; four grandchildren; Larry of Muscatine, David of New Boston, Ill, Melvin Randall of Lake Tahoe, Ca, and Patricia Phelps of Sacramento, Ca, three great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Services were held Monday, December 2, 1985, at the Stuart-Mt Vernon United Methodist Church in Stuart. The Reverend Mary Johnston and the Reverend Robert Farr were in charge of the service.

Organist was Mrs Wayne Miller and Masonic services were conducted by Madison Lodge No 568, A.F. & A.M. of Earlham. Casket bearers were Richard Wolf, Orie Jones, Cyrus Earhart, Bill Gilliam, Wayne Opheim and H.E. Morrison, Jr.

Interment was in North Page Cemetery in rural Villisca.

Otte, Bruce Edwin - Bruce Edwin Otte, age 89, was born October 16, 1910 in rural Page County, Iowa; the son of Henry and Cora Cagley Otte and died on September 5, 2000 at the Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda, Iowa, where he had been a resident since January 2000.

Bruce attended rural Jackson school near their farm home. He married Nola Schantz on November 8, 1975. He was a retired farmer who enjoyed doing carpenter work on the side and he especially loved working with his cattle. Bruce was a long time faithful member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clarinda, Iowa, holding many offices through the years.

Bruce is survived by his wife Nola of twenty-five years, who is also a resident of Goldenrod Manor; two sisters, Beulah Miller of Eiler House and Mabel Meyers of Clarinda; and a brother Wayne Otte and his wife Lois of Clarinda; along with many nieces and nephews. His parents, two sisters, Fern Otte and Anna Rose Sjoberg preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 8, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clarinda, with Rev Mark Wright officiating. Burial was in North Page Cemetery, rural Clarinda, Iowa. Nola LaVerne Schantz Otte was born November 9, 1910 in Douglas Township, Page County near Villisca, Iowa to Oscar P. Schantz and A. Dosia Edmonds Schantz. She was a graduate of Clarinda High School. Nola lived in Montana and Idaho before returning to Clarinda where she worked in a local department store. In 1941, she attended Commercial Extension School. Following graduation, she worked for West Central, which is now known as FarMar Co. She retired from FarMar Co in 1975. Nola was united in marriage November 8, 1975, to Bruce Edwin Otte who preceded her in death September 5, 2000.

Survivors include nieces, Kathy Kerns Penrod of Orion Illinois and Phyllis Kerns Peterson of Galesburg, Illinois and many nieces and nephews. C. Leonard Posten was born Feb 22, 1913, in Taylor County 10 miles southeast of Villisca, Ia, to Charles R. and Emma (Peterson) Posten. He died Feb 9, 2001, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Ia.

He lived in Taylor and Montgomery counties as a child and attended rural schools. The family moved to Villisca where he attended elementary school and graduate from Villisca High School in 1931.

After graduation, during the Depression days, he began farming for himself. He married Margaret (Williams) in 1936, and they moved to a farm 7 1/2 miles southwest of Villisca where he resided until his death. To this union two children were born, Pamela Ann Abel, who resides in Boulder, Co, and John Leonard and wife Margaret, who farm the home farm.

While a young boy, he joined the United Methodist Church, where he was an active member and, for many years, served as a trustee. He was appointed chairman of the committee for restoration of the church in 1996. He worked very hard at this project and glowed in the beautiful new steeple.

He was a sports enthusiast, and, while in high school, was presented with an award for being the best sport on the team. He was a reader of history, and a Civil War buff, loved western stories, loved to travel, was an excellent photographer, a woodworker, and carpenter who was always building something.

He was a great believer in soil conservation and in his early days of farming he visited the Iowa Legislature encouraging legislation to establish soil conservation districts. In 1991 he was awarded the Outstanding Southwest District Cooperator plaque for conservation. At one time he served as President of Iowa State Swine Producers.

He was very active in Farm Bureau affairs when a young man. In the 1950's he worked to establish a Teen Haven for high school youth, and he was an active worker in Villisca school's reorganization. In 1963 he started a new career of building grain bins and steel business buildings. In 1983, he took up oil painting and won many ribbons at shows. Leonard lived life at the fullest.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jon.

He leaves two grandchildren, Whitney and her husband John Clarkson, Berthoud, Co; and Jan Posten, Villisca, Ia.

Reed, Gladys Mabel Winter - Funeral services for Gladys M. Reed were held on Saturday Jan 27 at 2:00 pm, at the Villisca Methodist Church, with the Rev Paul C. Ellis officiating.

Pallbearers included Garland Lewis, L.M. Cronwall, Charles Winter, Russell Winter, Fen Fisher, and Harold Nichol. Flowerbearers were Mrs Ruth Boggess and Miss Sylvia Enarson. The music was by Mrs Carolyn Harris accompanied by Mrs Frances Wheeler. Concluding service and interment was in North Page Cemetery, Sutphen Funeral Home was in charge.

Gladys Mabel Reed, daughter of John and Laura Winter, was born January 27, 1896, in Page County, Iowa; and passed away suddenly on January 24, 1982, at St Joseph's hospital in Omaha.

Mrs Reed attended rural schools in Page and Montgomery Counties. In the spring of 1913, she moved with her parents to Villisca, and was graduated from Villisca High school in 1916.

She taught in several rural schools in the vicinity of Villisca--including "Sunny Slope," "Spring Valley," Number 9 and Number 6.

After attending Iowa State Teacher's College she served for seventeen years as a teacher in the Marshalltown schools.

On June 12, 1938, she was united in marriage to Myron Vernon Reed. Until his death in 1960 they resided on a farm in Washington Township near Melbourne, Iowa. At the time of her death, she was temporarily residing at the home of her aunt, Mrs Guy Dirrim, in Villisca.

She was always an active member of the Methodist Church, in Villisca, Marshalltown, and Melbourne. She was a member of the Melbourne chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Theta Chi Sorority.

She is survived by a step-daughter, Mrs Ted (Wanda) Benziger and three step-grandchildren, Joan, Michael and John, of Los Alamos, New Mexico.

She is also survived by two brothers, F.E. Winter, of Springfield, Ohio, and N.C. Winter, of Anacortes, Washington; and by four sisters, Mrs Ned Osborn, of Stuart, Iowa; Miss May Winter of Amarillo, Tex; Mrs K.K. Kennedy of Oklahoma City; and Mrs W. Hugh Stickler of Tallahassee, Florida; and by six nephews and four nieces.

Reid, Aurilla Brannan - Mary Aurilla Brannan was born Feb 15, 1882, in Page County, Iowa, to William and Emma Palmer Brannan. She died March 13, 1976 at Boulder, Colorado. She attended schools in the Page County area and graduated from Villisca High School in 1902. She spent her adult life in Cheyenne and the Denver area moving to Boulder in April 1962. She is survived by one niece, Mildred B. Kunze of Boulder and 2 nephews, Dr John C. Brannan of Boulder and Robert C. Brannan of Villisca, Iowa. She was a life member of the Order of Easter Star, Radiant Chapter #12 in Denver. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers.

Royer, Myrtle Brownlee - Funeral services for Myrtle Royer, 77, of Clarinda will be at 10 am Friday at Trinity United Presbyterian Church with Rev Wayne Fisher officiating.

Mrs Royer died Tuesday morning at Municipal hospital following a brief illness.

She was born July 17, 1900, at Warrensburg, Mo., the daughter of Harry and Jennie Wood Brownlee. On January 29, 1919 she married Roy Royer who died in 1956. Mrs Royer had worked at the M.H.I. [Mental Health Institute] and in several cafes, and done babysitting for many families in Clarinda.

She is survived by two sons, Harry Royer of Monmouth, Ill, and Wayne Royer of Lincoln, Neb, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Brothers are Dean Brownlee of Cheyenne, Wo, and Glenn Brownlee of Villisca and sisters are Addie Larson of Clarinda and Dorothy Schantz of Red Oak.

Helen Hall Hoskinson will be organist and Marilyn Fisher will be pianist at the service. Esther Johnston and Katheryne Almers will be at the registers. Ushers will be Beryl Beery and Myron Ives.

Casket bearers will be Lowell Pullen, Melvin Royer, Stanley Brownlee, Darrel Driftmier, Kenneth Larson and Ivan Falk.

Royer, Roy - Roy Royer, 59, of Clarinda died Saturday morning at the Clarinda Municipal Hospital of a cerebral hemorrhage after being hospitalized for only two days.

Mr Royer was born at Essex on Dec 27, 1896. He grew up in the Rose Hill neighborhood, where he farmed for several years. The family moved to Clarinda 12 years ago and Mr Royer had been employed by the CB&Q Railroad for 13 years with the section crew. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church at Clarinda.

Survivors include his wife Myrtle; two sons and their families, Mr and Mrs Harry David Royer of Monmouth, Ill, and Mr and Mrs Wayne Edward Royer of Essex; four grandchildren; a brother, Earl Royer of Hepburn; and a sister, Mrs Fern Pullan of Clarinda.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday. There will be a prayer service for the family at the Foster-Harmon-Williams Mortuary at 1:40 pm, followed by services at the United Presbyterian Church at 2 pm. Rutherford, Andrew - Andrew Rutherford, a pioneer citizen of North Page, died of old age at his farm home here Tuesday morning of this week. He has been very low for some time and his death was not unexpected. Schantz, Dosia Edmonds - Dosia Schantz, 96, of Clarinda, Ia, passed away Thursday at the Stanton Care Center where she had been a resident since April, 1982. Prior to moving to the Care Center, she resided with Bruce and Nola Otte of Clarinda.

Mrs Schantz was born March 22, 1887, near Clarinda, the daughter of S.W. and Sarah Plank Edmonds. She was married to Oscar Schantz on December 22, 1909. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1965.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs Bruce (Nola) Otte of Clarinda; two grandchildren, Phyllis Peterson and Katherine Penrod, and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs Schantz was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, two daughters, and two sons.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Clarinda.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 7, 1983, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, Ia, with the Reverend Charles Bulger officiating.

Musical selections were provided by Dorothy Johnson and Norma Kramer. Bill and Shirley Baker were at the register.

Schantz, Oscar - Funeral services for Oscar Schantz, 78, were held Wednesday, June 16, 1965 at 2:00 pm, from the Wolfe Funeral Home, with the Rev Ralph G. Allen officiating. The organist was Mrs Frances Gray. Selections were "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Will There Be Any Stars."

Flowerbearers were Mr and rs Glen Brownlee, and Mr and Mrs Wayne Cary. Casketbearers included Lowel Schantz, Lisle Renander, Warren Renander, Fred Schantz, Dean Schantz, and LaVon Schantz.

Interment was in the North Page cemetery.

Oscar Phillip Schantz was born in Page county, near Hepburn, Iowa on February 7, 1887, and passed away at the Bishop Clarkson Memorial hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on June 13, 1965.

He was confirmed in the Bethesda Lutheran church, but when returning to Iowa in 1945, he became a member of the First Christian Church of Clarinda, Iowa, where he held a membership at the time of his death.

His home has been in Page County, Iowa with the exception of fourteen years.

During the fourteen years he and his family lived near Loma, Montana, in Sandpoint, Idaho and near Ava Missouri. During World War II he worked in defense work at Boxite, Arkansas and Hanford, Washington. He is survived by his wife Dosia, two daughters Nola Schantz of Omaha, Nebraska and Dorothy (Mrs Wayne Kerns), of East Moline, Ill. Two granddaughters Kathy Kerns of East Moline, Ill, and Phyllis (Mrs Rayder Peterson) of Galesburg, Ill; three great grandchildren Connie, Dar and Todd Peterson also survive.

Tackla Augusta Eden was born March 23, 1901 in Valley township departed this life Sept 23, 1927 at the age of 25 years, 5 months.

This short life so full of sunshine and good cheer, was lived in this community; except the short time spent in seeking health elsewhere.

Early in life she accepted Jesus as her Savior, and united with the U.P. church of Hepburn where she remained a faithful member until she was called to join the church triumphant. Aug 17, 1921 she was united in marriage to J.E. Shepherd. To this union two children were born, Virginia May and Westley. Besides the husband and children, her father, Chas. Eden, two brothers Ansel and Luther and two sisters, Alice and Julia, and a host of friends mourn her departure, while we bow in submission to his will we realize that our loss is her gain.

Funeral services were held in the U.P. Church at Hepburn Sabbath at 2:30 PM conducted by the Rev W.E. Gordon. The quartet, Mrs Ralph Dalbey, Mrs Don Depew, Fred Graham and Cleve Pendergraft, sang. Although the weather was unfavorable and the roads bad a very large audience filled the church, indicating the high esteem of her neighbors and friends. Stickler, Margaret W. Winter - Funeral services for Margaret W. Stickler were held Sept 9, 1998, at the Frist Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee, Fl. Burial in the North Page Cemetery, Villisca, Ia, will be held at a later date.

Margaret W. Stickler was born Aug 8, 1910, in Grant, Ia, to John and Laura (Gasson) Winter. She died Sept 6, 1998, in Tallahassee, Fl.

She married W. Hugh Stickler and was retired from teaching for twenty years. She was a Girl Scout Leader and aided in establishing the Junior Museum. She was a member of PEO and the First Presbyterian Church where she was an elder and active in circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She is survived by daughters Sindy Lynne Stickler of Forest Hills, NY; and Ann S. Potter of Arlington, Va; grandson Benjamin Potter, and one great granddaughter Victoria Potter, both of Arlington, Va. Also sister Verna Kennedy of Villisca, Ia.

Stickler, W. Hugh - Dr W. Hugh Stickler, the man who founded Florida State University's Department of High Education, died Thursday afternoon at his home, 1710 N Gibbs Dr. He was 65.

Memorial Services were held at the First Presbyterian Church, of which he was an elder. Interment will be later in Iowa.

Survivors include his widow, Margaret Louise Winter, formerly of Villisca, and two daughters, Mrs Frederic Alan Potter of Arlington, Va, and Mrs Donald R. Lumpkin of Forrest Park Hills, NY; one grandson Benjamin Potter, and a brother, Ward Stickler of Newton, Iowa.

A native of Iowa, Dr Stickler came to Florida State in 1947 as chairman of the General Education Program.

From 1958 until 1970 he was chairman of the Department of High Education. After retiring as chairman he continued to teach in the College of Education.

Dr Stanley Marshall, president of Florida State and former dean of the College of Education, said "Dr Stickler's contributions as an administrator, professor and scholar have left a permanent mark on the field of higher education. He was, among other things, a valued source of inspiration, guidance and leadership for all of us - faculty, staff, students and administrators alike."

Dr Stickler received his BS degree (Magna cum laude) from Parsons College in 1931. He received the master's degree from the University of Iowa in 1934 and his doctorate from Columbia in 1941.

Graveside services for Dr W. Hugh Stickler will be held at North Page Cemetery Tuesday, June 24th at 3: pm.

Dr Stickler passed away at his home in Tallahasse, Florida on February 6th. His ashes will be flown here by his wife, Margaret, who was formerly Margaret L. Winter of Villisca. His two daughters and husbands, Mr and Mrs Donald Lumpkin of Forest Hill, New York and Mr and Mrs Frederic Potter and son Benjamin of Arlington, Virginia will be here for the burial rites. The service will be conducted by Rev Richard Chambers of Atlantic, Ia. Rev Chambers, a fraternity brother, married the couple in Villisca in 1934.

Dr Stickler's obituary was printed in the Villisca Review in February, 1975. He was a nationally known professor and authority in the field of higher education.

At the time of his death he was to receive the Distinguished Service Award of the Florida Association of Colleges and Universities.

Strickland, Harry A. - Funeral services for Harry A. Strickland, 76, were held Saturday June 2, at 2:00 pm from the Villisca Methodist church with the Rev Paul S. Ellis officiating. Mrs Mabel Dunn at the organ accompanied Mrs Frances Gray in the selections, "In The Garden," and "The End of a Perfect Day." Flowerbearers were Mr and Mrs John Carlson and Mr and Mrs Gurney Mercer. Casketbearers included Howard Hanson, Carl Hanson, Vernon Vanderholm, Garland Lewis, Lloyd Johnson and Harry Weaver. Interment was in North Page Cemetery. In charge of arrangements was Wolfe Funeral Home.

Harry Strickland, son of J.A. and Hannah Peterson Strickland was born Jan 9, 1886 in Page County, Iowa and passed away at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 22 days.

Harry Strickland Jr 80, of Stanton, Iowa died September 17, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center in Villisca, Iowa, where he had been a resident since September 30, 2003. He was born March 4, 1924, in Page County, Ia, on the family farm, the son of Harry A. Strickland and Rose (Kelley) Strickland. Harry married Charlotte Lantz, April 6, 1945, at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, Ia. To this union four children were born: Julie, Joel, Janean and Joan.

Harry enjoyed farming, coon hunting, playing cards and attending the car races. He also enjoyed his time at the Villisca Elevator drinking a Pepsi and telling funny stores.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lloyd Strickland and wife Helen, brothers-in-law, Malcom (Bus) Victor, Allan Levine and Levi Lantz.

Strickland, Helen Clara Lundstedt - Funeral services for Helen C. Strickland, 78, of Stanton, were held at 10:30 am, Wedesday, February 1, 1989, at the Covenant Church in Stanton with the Reverend Richard Lindstrom officiating.

Rose Strickland, daughter of Ezekial and Alcinda Higgins Kelly, was born September 11, 1886, in Page County and passed away January 22, 1989, at the Stanton Care Center. She had been a resident there for nine years.

Rose was married to Harry Strickland on December 15, 1905 at Villisca. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1962. Also preceding her in death were four brothers and four sisters.

Mrs Strickland is survived by four children: Lloyd Strickland, Mrs Florence Victor, and Harry Strickland, all of Villisca, and Mrs Ivan (Marjorie) Nelson of Red Oak; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Thomas, Anna Maria Christine Warner - Anna Maria Christine Warner was born in Page county, Iowa, March 23, 1873, and passed away on Oct 5, 1940, at the age of 67 years, 6 months and 12 days.

She was the only daughter of Andrew G. and Mathilda Warner, and the last member of this family, the parents and two brothers having preceded her in death.

At an early age she was confirmed into the Swedish Lutheran church at Bethesda. After her marriage she transferred her membership to the United Presbyterian church at Hepburn, Ia.

On Feb 23, 1899, in Page county she was united in marriage to John W. Thomas. Eight children were born to this union, a son, Warner Joseph, dying in infancy. Surviving are seven daughters: Mrs Mildred Erzinger of Silvis, Ill, Mrs Thelma Kile of Chicago, Ill, Martha at home, Mrs Christine Gould of Milton, Ia, Mrs Mary Louise James of Omaha, Nebr, Mrs Laura Stohlmans of Omaha, Nebr, Muriel at home; three grandchildren, Kenneth Erzinger and Gloria and Thomas Gould.

She was an active church worker, belonging to the Missionary Society, Ladies' Aid. She was an ardent believer in Christian temperance and an active worker, serving as president of the Hepburn W.C.T.U. for one year.

She was a loving, thoughtful wife and mother, always thinking first of those around her, even in the last three years of her life, when she suffered greatly most of the time.

Her passing was a great loss to those who held her dear. Hers is a place which will never be filled. She will be deeply mourned.

Thomas, John - John Thomas, 81, formerly a resident of the vicinity northwest of Hepburn, died Sunday in Chicago where he had been living for the last six months at the home of his daughter, Mrs Harry Kile. He suffered a stroke four years ago from which he had recovered. His last illness was of ten days duration.

He was born in Hancock county, Ill., Dec 1, 1870, and was engaged in farming in the Hepburn vicinity many years. He married Mary C. Warner who preceded him in death. Their surviving children are Mildred, Torrington, Wyo; Thelma Kile, Des Planes, Ill; Christine Gould, Davenport, Ia; Mary Louise James, Omaha; Laura Stahlmann, Louisville, Neb; and Muriel Maddox, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Mr Thomas was a member of the Presbyterian church. His body arrived in Villisca Tuesday night and was taken to the Wolfe funeral home where services will be held this Thursday at 2 pm, conducted by the Rev M.A. Robeson. Thomas, Warner - Hepburn--Again our little town mourns. The death angel came to the home of Mr and Mrs John Thomas and claimed for his own little Warner Thomas, aged two years. Warner, Anselm L. - Funeral services for Anselm L. Warner, 82 of Braddyville and formerly of the Hepburn area will be at 2 p, Tuesday at the Bethesda Lutheran Church with Rev David Palm officiating.

Visitation will be at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home from 7-8 pm, this Monday.

Mr Warner died Saturday evening at his home in Braddyville.

He was born April 15, 1900, in Page County, the son of Charles A. and Anna Swedlund Warner.

He was married to Maude Winter who preceded him in death in 1958.

Mr Warner was a farmer, and veteran of W.W. 1.

Survivors include three children: Charles Warner of Clarinda, Mrs Arlo (Roseanna) Sunderman of Braddyville, and Mrs Clifford (Maxine) Sunderman of Coin. There are 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Sisters are Margaret Myhre of Cedar Rapids and Edla Warner of Bishop Hill, Ill.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Brownlee in 1981, a sister Ruby Warner, brother, Karl Warner and infant brother Theodore.

Warner, Maude Winter- Funeral services will be Saturday for Mrs Anselm L. Warner, 58, who was found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning at the farm home two miles northwest of Hepburn Wednesday morning.

Page County Sheriff Stanley Edgar and Coroner Fred Hackett were summoned when Mr Warner found the body of his wife in the garage upon his return from Clarinda at approximately 10:30 am. Coroner Hackett said that the death occurred between 8:30 and 9 am apparently the result of suicide.

Mrs Maude Warner was born July 2, 1900, in Valley Township, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Ed Winter. She lived her entire life time in the Hepburn vicinity.

Mrs Warner was named outstanding rural homemaker of Page County in 1954. She served as a 4-H leader 13 years and was a past-president of the Page County Farm Bureau Women. She was president of the Clarinda American Legion Auxiliary and was active in the Bethesda Lutheran Church and Missionary Society and the Bethesda Garden Club.

She is survived by her husband; one son, Charles Warner of Clarinda; three daughters, Mrs Maxine E. Sunderman of Coin, Mrs Rosanna Sunderman of Braddyville and Mrs Mary Brownlee of Coin; seven granddaughters and two grandsons; her mother, Mrs Rose Winter of Hepburn; two brothers, Charles Winter and Ray Winter, both of Hepburn; and two sisters, Mrs Edna Williams of Clarinda and Mrs Ethel Mathaei of Villisca.

The funeral service will be Saturday at 2:30 pm at the Bethesda Lutheran Church. The Rev Carl A. Benefson pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will be in the North Page Cemetery. Whitehill, Amanda I. - Amanda I. Whitehill, former resident of Villisca and a daughter of John R. and Margaret Whitehill, was born near Aledo, Ill., on April 24, 1863, and died at Bedford, Ia, on Saturday morning, April 1, 1950, at the age of 87 years. She was the seventh of the eight children of her parents and the last member of the family to survive.

As a small child she came with her parents in a covered wagon to Clarinda, Ia, and later the family moved to a newly purchased farm in North Page community which became known as the Whitehill homestead. There they lived for many years, until after the death of the parents. Miss Whitehill attended the rural schools and with her younger brother Irvin cared for her parents until their deaths. She continued to live with her brother and family until his death about three years ago when she was taken to the Armstrong nursing home in Bedford. She had been bedfast most of the time for the past 13 years.

She became a member of the North Page United Presbyterian church early in life, and when the family moved to Villisca her membership was transferred to the First Presbyterian church; later she transferred to the United Presbyterian church in Clarinda.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs Irvin Whitehill, in whose home she was cared for for many years, and the four sons of Mr and Mrs Whitehill; also several other nieces and nephews. She was a great great great aunt. She was preceded in death by her parents and all her brothers and sisters: Elizabeth, James Holmes, Ann, Thomas, John C., Clara, and Irvin.

Funeral services were conducted at Sutphen's funeral home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 pm by the Rev M.A. Robeson, and burial was in North Page cemetery. Whitehill, Ethel Burnside - Graveside services for Mrs Irvin (Ethel) Whilehill, 87, will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, April 1, in the North Page Cemetery. The Rev Nadim E. Saikaly will officiate.

She was formerly a resident of Clarinda preceded in death by her husband, four sons, William, Clark, John and Paul, all in California survive. Mrs Harold Winter of Villisca is a sister.

Whitehill, Irvin Henry - Irvin Henry Whitehill, son of John R. and Margaret H. Whitehill, was born Feb 25, 1865, near Monmouth, Ill, and died at the Municipal hospital Thursday, July 3, 1947.

Mr Whitehill was the youngest of a family of eight children. The Whitehills moved from Illinois to Clarinda in 1876 and then three years later they settled on a farm 10 3/4 miles north of Clarinda in the North Page district.

Mr Whitehill received his education in Clarinda and the Western Normal college at Shenandoah. He taught for six years in the rural schools then due to his parents' failing health returned to the farm. He united with the United Presbyterian church of North Page when 15 years of age. When this church discontinued he united with the United Presbyterian church at Hepburn where he served as trustee for 15 years and then as a ruling elder for six years.

On Aug 2, 1911, he was married to Miss Ethel Burnside of Villisca by the Rev William Murchie. To this union were born five sons, one dying in infancy; William Holmes Whitehill of Vallejo, Calif, John Wesley of Richmond, Calif, Clark Lavere of Omaha, and Paul Hutchison of Red Oak.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Surviving are his wife, four sons, three daughters-in-law, three grandchildren, one sister, Miss Amanda Whitehill, many other relatives and a host of friends.

The family removed from the farm to Clarinda and after some years went to Villisca, returning to Clarinda this past year to remake their home. Their membership was retained in the United Presbyterian church at Clarinda through the last years.

Mr Whitehill retired as secretary of the North Page Cemetery association at the annual meeting Feb 4. His services covered a period of 40 years, having been chosen by the late James Pollock whose generous endowment has been used for the upkeep of this cemetery. During the years he never missed a meeting and is the last of the original board to depart this life.

In World War I he was appointed Aug 31, 1918, by W.L. Harding, governor of Iowa, as the official representative of the state and federal government in all food production activities in Page county necessary to the successful prosecution of the war by the United States.

Burial was made in North Page cemetery. Music for the services was furnished by Mrs Ida Fisher of Villisca. Active pallbearers were Harry Williams, Elmer Lindberg, James Christie, Oscar Schantz, Theodore Schantz and Jennings Beery and honorary pallbearers were elders of the Clarinda United Presbyterian church. He emigrated from Ohio in 1858 to North Henderson, Ill. He became a member of the United Presbyterian church at this place. He lived in Illinois until the autumn of 1876. Then he emigrated to Page county, Ia. He was for a short time a member of the United Presbyterian congregation of Clarinda, then of North Page, then of Hepburn. Of the latter he was a member when he died.

There survive him his wife and seven children: Irvin H. and Miss Amanda, at home, J.C. and James H. of Villisca, Mrs Clara Sims of Clarinda, Mrs Anna Beard of Overbrook, Kan, and T.L. of Nebraska City. All were present at his funeral except Mrs Beard. He was an upright and consistent Christian, always ready to do whatsoever his Master bid him. He has gone to be with his Master, to dwell with Him for ever. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, for their works do follow them."

The funeral was from the home, Friday afternoon, Jan 30, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev D.M. Montgomery of the United Presbyterian church. Many friends paid their respects to the deceased by their presence at the funeral, which was very large. The remains were laid to rest in the North Page cemetery. Williams, Alfred - Alfred Williams, 73, resident of Montgomery county all his life, died suddenly of a heart attack Friday at 2 pm at his home three and a half miles southwest of Villisca. He had been in poor health several years.

Mr Williams, with his son Wallace, was assisting with feed grinding at the Williams home and was in the haymow getting out bales of hay when he called to his son below that he was ill. Wallace advised him to sit down and rest but he was dead before the son could reach is father's side.

Mr Williams, the second of the five sons of James S. and Nancy Williams, was born Feb 2, 1875, on the farm where he died and where he had lived for the last 24 years. He received his high school education in Villisca and was graduated from Tarkio college, Tarkio, Mo., in 1902. After teaching school he entered Yale University, New Haven, Conn., where he was graduated in 1907, following which he spent several years in educational work and returned to the home farm in 1914.

He was united in marriage June 23, 1910, to Miss Hazel Phillips of Oskaloosa, Ia, and to them was born a son, Wallace, who has been associated, with his father in farming. He served as Montgomery county representative in the Iowa legislature, 1923-24 term, was the first AAA chairman of this county and was interested in many movements for the betterment of the county and community in which he lived.

At the age of 12 years he became a member of the North Page Presbyterian church and in later years transferred to the First Presbyterian church of Villisca. In 1921 he was elected an elder in the church and served until five years ago when he asked to be relieved of that duty. During his term as elder he was clerk of the session several times.

Mr Williams is survived by his wife, their son and daughter-in-law and by two brothers, Dr F.S. Williams and Harry Williams of Villisca. His body was brought to the Sutphen funeral home to await the funeral service which was held Monday afternoon in the Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev M.A. Robeson.

The singing was by Mrs Wm Sturgis, accompanied by Mrs Frances Wheeler, and in charge of the Flowers were Mrs Waldo Penton, Mrs Stanley Dunn. The pallbearers were Waldo Penton, James D. Williams, Glenna Fisher - Funeral services for Mrs Harry C. Williams of the North Page vicinity southwest of Villisca were held Friday at 2 pm at the Pitman funeral home, conducted by the Rev E.M. Buehler and the Rev Henry Orr Leitman. Mrs Williams died at her home Dec 4 following an extended illness.

The singing at the funeral was by Mrs Icle Fisher, accompanied at the piano by Mrs J.L. Wheeler and in charge of the flowers were Mrs Jessie Wagaman and Mrs Avon Wendling. The pallbearers were Fred Graham, Roy McCorkle, Ralph Dalby, Howard Cooney, Vern Lewis and Malcolm Poston, and interment was in the North Page cemetery.

Ethel Glenna Fisher, daughter of the late F.L. Fisher and Luella Fisher, was born in the North Page vicinity Oct 9, 1887, and was 59 years old at her death. When a girl she joined the United Presbyterian church at North Page, and when the church there was discontinued she transferred her membership to Hepburn, and in 1942 she became a member of the Methodist church in Villisca. She was a regular attendant at church services and Sunday school there until eleven months ago when her health would no longer permit.

She was married to Harry C. Williams on Sept 2, 1908, and to that union one daughter, Margaret, was born. In 1910 she moved with her husband to their farm 3 1/2 miles southwest of Villisca where she resided continuously thereafter until her death.

Besides her husband and daughter, Mrs Leonard Posten, she leaves two grandchildren, Pamela Ann and Johnnie, one sister, Mrs Lela Helberg of Villisca and a brother Fred L. Fisher of North Page.

Williams, Harry C. - Funeral services for Harry C. Williams, 89, were held Friday, July 26, 1968, 10:30 am at the Villisca Methodist Church with the Rev Fred C. Rowley officiating. Burial was in the North Page Cemetery. Pallbearers were Vern Lewis, Paul Poston, Howard Cooney, Fred Lamken, Vern Watts, and Lynn D. Hull. Flowerbearers were Florence Poston and Wilma Fisher. Mrs Willard White presented the selections "23rd Psalm" and "Jesus Savior Pilot Me." Sutphen Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Obituary - Harry C. Williams was born Dec 25, 1878, to James and Nan Williams on a farm in Montgomery County near Villisca, and passed away in the United Presbyterian Home at Washington, Iowa, July 23, 1968.

He was baptized into and joined the North Page Church at an early age. He later transferred to the United Presbyterian Church in Hepburn where he was an elder, the church treasurer, and the Sunday School teacher for the Young People's class until the church was disbanded. When the Hepburn church joined with the Clarinda church he transferred to the Villisca Methodist Church in Dec, 1942, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer until his health failed him. When he moved to Washington in 1961 he renewed his membership with the United Presbyterian Church.

On Sept 2, 1908 he was united in marriage to Glenna Fisher who preceded him in death Dec 4, 1946.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Wallace, Ralph, Alfred, and Frank.

Survivors are his daughter, Margaret Posten, and two grandchildren, John Posten, and Pamela Gilbert of Bozeman Montana.

Mr Williams served many years as president of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. He was a township trustee for years. He was the treasurer of the Villisca Mutual Telephone Company for 21 years. He was an outstanding Poland China hog breeder for over 50 years and served as director of the Standard Poland China Record Association for nearly 15 years. Williams, Hazel P. - Funeral services for Hazel P. Williams were held Tuesday, April 4, 1967 at 10:00 am at the Presbyterian Church with the Rev Nadium Saikaly officiating.

Pallbearers were Herman Christ, Waldo Penton, Orville, Wagaman, Robert Brannan, James Williams, and Paul Williams. Flowerbearers were Elzene Penton and Kathryn Wright. The organ music was by Mabel Dunn. Selections, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", and "Old Rugged Cross." Ushers were Henry Kerne Sr and Paul Fisher. Concluding service and interment was in North Page cemetery.

Mrs Hazel Williams was born in Audubon County in 1883. She was orphaned at the age of 2 1/2 years, and was reared and educated by her aunt, Mrs Elizabeth Washburn of Oskaloosa, Iowa.

She taught for several years in the Oskaloosa Schools. In 1910 she was united in marriage to Alford Williams, who was at that time Superintendent of Perry, Iowa schools. In 1915, Mr Williams left school work and with his wife Hazel came to the home farm southwest of Villisca, Iowa, where they made their home until his death in 1948.

One son, Wallace Williams, was born to them, and now resides on the home farm with wife, Evelyn and daughter, Lois.

Mrs Williams was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church, and was always deeply interested in the church's life and work. For several years she was the teacher of the Berean Class, the Sunday School Class of the Villisca Presbyterian Church's senior members.

Mrs Hazel Williams died on Sunday, April 2, 1967, at 9:15 am of a heart attack at the Northgate Nursing Home, Corning, Iowa. She has one surviving sister, Lida Price of Westminster, Colorado. VILLISCA REVIEW, Villisca, Iowa, Apr 6, 1967

Wilson, Robert Aaron - Robert Aaron Wilson, a former resident of Page county, and well known in Clarinda, near which city was his home for many years, met a sudden and shocking death Wednesday, near Sciola, a small town seven miles north of Villisca.

Mr Wilson's home was on a farm five miles north of Hepburn and two and one-half miles southwest of Villisca. He was Wednesday engaged with his brother, Joseph Wilson, and others, in moving the household goods of his brother-in-law, W.C. Harrell, from Sciola to Villisca, where Mr Harrell had been in the blacksmithing business for about one month, and to which place he was just moving his family.

Robert Wilson's wagon was loaded with household goods and he was seated on a box of goods in the wagon when he started his team about one-fourth of a mile behind the last of the two or three wagons on the road in the same work as himself. On account of the dust the drivers of the several wagons had planned to keep about one-fourth of a mile apart, and they were so driving.

As Robert left the Harrell premises there was a low gully in the road. The descent of the wagon was quick and the box on which Robert sat pitched forward, throwing him upon the whiffletrees, behind the horses.

The box went by the roadside and with it some other articles from the wagon.

The team ran to the next wagon, that driven by Joseph Wilson, who easily stopped the horses.

Robert had been dragged behind the horses for one-fourth of a mile. Joseph came upon his dead brother Robert as the team was halted. Robert had been kicked to death by the runaway team.

The remains were taken to a neighbor's home and properly dressed, after which they were conveyed to the late home of the deceased. The death took place about 1 pm.

The funeral was held at 10 o'clock this morning from the family home. The interment was at the North Page cemetery.

The late Mr Wilson was about 48 years of age. In the 70's he married Miss Della Harrell in Clarinda. The widow is a sister of W.C. Harrell, formerly of this city, and also a sister of C.L. Harrell, a present resident of Clarinda. Seven children survive with Mrs Wilson to mourn the loss of a good husband and father. Mr Wilson also was a brother of Mrs S.W. Nelson and Mrs Donald Glasgow of Clarinda, and his mother Mrs Samaramus Wilson, age 86 years, also lives in Clarinda and makes her home with Mr and Mrs Glassgow. Robert Wilson's father died three miles south of Clarinda, the former home of the family, in 1875. There Robert lived in his earlier life. Later he rented the T.J. McKinnon farm in East River township. Three years ago he removed from the farm of Mr McKinnon to the place that was his home when he died.

Mr Wilson was also an uncle of J.M. Hutcheson, postmaster of Blanchard, and the latter gentleman's brothers, A.S. Hutcheson, of Amity college at College Springs.

S.W. Nelson and Mr and Mrs Glasgow went to the bereaved home yesterday on learning of the fatal accident. The Hutcheson brothers arrived here last evening on their way to the funeral, to attend it with the other relatives and friends from here.

Winter, Frank L. - Funeral services for Frank L. Winter pioneer resident of Villisca and vicinity, were held Tuesday at 2 pm at the Sutphen funeral home. He died Friday evening at the Municipal hospital in Clarinda where he had been a patient four weeks.

The funeral was conducted by the Rev L.H. Athy. The singing was by Cecil Weaver, accompanied by Mrs Frances Wheeler, and in charge of the flowers were Mrs Wm Findley and Mrs Russell Roberts. Pallbearers were Earl Scott, Walter Matthaei, Don Anderson, John Zuber jr, Malcolm Victor and Fred Focht, and interment was in the North Page cemetery.

Frank Leslie Winter, son of Nicholas Clemmons and Amelia Moore Winter, was born on a farm in Page county, Iowa, April 27, 1865.

He was united in marriage with Miss Rosella McIntyre Feb 10, 1892, and to this union four children were born. They are Marvin E., Kremlin, Mont., Mrs Hazel M. Fisher, Harold F. and J. Russell, all of Villisca.

Mr Winter was one of nine children. All of his life was spent in this vicinity. He lived 55 years on the same farm northeast of Villisca, moving to his present home in Villisca three years ago. Five brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Winter, Laura Alma Gasson - Funeral services were held Monday at 2 pm for Mrs Laura Gasson Winter, 79, who died Friday, September 29, at the Clarinda Municipal hospital as a result of a recent fall in which she suffered a fractured hip.

The Rev L.H. Athy officiated at the services at the Villisca Methodist church. Acting as pallbearers were Harold Gasson, Red Oak; Eidner Peterson, Stanton; Garland Lewis, Elliott; Donald Osborn, Fort Doge; Leslie Cronwall and Walter Crussell, Villisca. Selected music was furnished by Cecil Weaver, accompanied by Mrs J.L. Wheeler. The floral committee included Mrs Harold Gasson, Mrs Walter Crussel, Mrs Eidner Peterson, Mrs Garland Lewis. Interment was in the North Page cemetery.

Laura Alma Gasson, daughter of Thomas Edmund and Sarah Frances Langford Gasson, was born April 13, 1871, on the Gasson homestead in Montgomery county, Iowa. She grew to womanhood in the home community and maintained active membership in the Cramer chapel Methodist church. She attended school in the Prairie Home school, Villisca high school, and Red Oak Normal school. She was a teacher in several Montgomery county rural schools.

In 1895 she was united in marriage with John William Winter of Page county who preceded her in death. To this union were born two sons, Francis and Clifford and five daughters, Gladys (Mrs Vernon Reed), Blanche (Mrs Ned Osborn), May, Verna (Mrs K.K. Kennedy), and Margaret (Mrs W. Hugh Steckler). The family moved to Villisca 37 years ago.

Surviving Mrs Winter are her seven children, eleven grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs Vera Lewis of Elliott, Miss Myrtle Gasson of Stanton, Mrs Celia Dirrim and Mrs Guy Dirrim of Villisca.

Winter, May - Vera May Winter, daughter of John and Laura Gasson Winter, was born May 13, 1900, in Montgomery County, Ia, and passed away October 25, 1983, at her home in Villisca, Ia.

May attended school in Grant and the Villisca area and was graduated from Villisca High School in 1918. After teaching rural schools in this area and in Villisca elementary school, she received her bachelor's degree in Physical Education from the University of Northern Iowa and later completed her Master's Degree in Mathematics Education at the University in Canyon, Tx.

She taught physical training in Chariton, Ia, High School and junior college. For 32 years she taught junior high school Physical Training, health, driver education, and mathematics in Amarillo, Tx. She continued long membership in Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional organization, and received commendation from the state officials of that organization for her service contributions.

In 1975 she returned to make her home in Villisca. She was a supporting member of the United Methodist Church. She participated annually as a cancer drive volunteer in her neighborhood.

May was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Gladys Reed and Blanche Osborn, and her brother Clifford.

She is survived by two sisters, Verna Kennedy, Nodaway, and Margaret Stickler, Tallahassee, Fl; her brother, Francis Winter, Springfield, Oh, six nephews, four nieces and 13 great-nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday, October 29, 1983, in the United Methodist Church, Villisca, Ia, with the Reverend Steven Wainwright officiating.

Musical selections of "My Faith Looks Up To Thee" and "The Lord's Prayer" were played by Martin Hentsch. At the memory books were Tillie Weiner and Pauline Williams. Ushers were Donald Osborn and Garland Lewis.

Assisting with the flowers were Ruby Lewis and Jean Osborn.

Casket bearers were Douglas Winter, David Osborn, Steve Lewis, Larry Osborn, Kay D. Kennedy and Randall Osborn.

Interment was in the North Page Cemetery, Page County, Iowa.

Winter, Rosella McIntyre - Funeral services for Mrs Frank L. Winter, 89, resident of this area many years, were held Sunday, Aug 14, at 3 pm at the Sutphen Funeral home. Mrs Winter died Thursday, Aug 11, at the Horton nursing home after several years of failing health.

The funeral sermon was by the Rev Alvin D. Sigfus, and the singing was by Mrs Icle Fisher, accompanied by Mrs Mabel Dunn. In charge of the flowers were Mrs Frank Query and Mrs Don V. Anderson, and pallbearers were John Zuber sr, Walter Matthaei, Frank Query, Russell Roberts, Don V. Anderson and Ed Schroeder. Interment was in the North Page cemetery.

Rosella McIntyre was born in London, Ontario, Canada, Dec 2, 1865, one of the five children of J.B. and Isabella McIntyre. When four years of age the family moved to Iowa where she lived the remainder of her life. She was married to Frank L. Winter on Feb 10, 1892, and to this union four children were born. They are Marvin E. Winter, Kremlin, Mont, Mrs Hazel Fisher and Harold F. and J. Russell Winter, Villisca.

When a girl Mrs Winter was a member of the North Grove Methodist church later transferring to the Methodist in Villisca. She was a kind and loving mother, always making welcome her many friends and relatives to her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan 26, 1951, also her two sisters, two brothers and five of her seven half-brothers and half-sisters, Mrs Lillie Sweeney, Mrs Florence Farrand of Dillon, Mont, her four children, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Wood, Adeline Isabelle - Mrs Adeline Isabelle Wood, wife of W.W. Wood living about five miles southwest of Villisca, died Friday noon of last week of heart failure, aged 74 years, 5 months and 28 days. Her death was no unexpected, as she had been in poor health for a number of years, but the suddenness of it was somewhat a shock to relatives and friends, who were given no warning that the end was so close at hand.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Fairview conducted by Rev A.R. Munford of the United Presbyterian church at Hepburn. Interment was at North Page. A large number of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends witnessed the obsequies.

Mrs Wood, who had lived in Page county, Iowa, about twenty-seven years, was born in Abbeyville, South Carolina, June 1, 1833. When she was about seven or eight years of age her parents moved to the vicinity of Kirkwood, Illinois, where, on the eight day of October, 1861, she was married to W.W. Wood. To them four children were born, two boys and two girls, only one of whom, the wife of H.S. Brownlee, living southwest of town, survives. The first boy died in infancy. James Wallace Wood, the other son, well known to many people of this vicinity, died in 1895, the year following the death of his sister, Mrs J.R. McCoy.

Mr and Mrs Wood came to Iowa in 1880 from White City, Kansas, where they moved some eight or ten years after their marriage. They lived in Page county from the time of their arrival until death took one of them away, and Mr Wood continues to make that his home. They were highly respected citizens of the community in which they lived and the husband and bereaved and sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of many friends during the trying hours that have followed Mrs Wood's demise.

Deceased was a member of the United Presbyterian church at Hepburn and was a prominent worker in the Ladies' Missionary society. She became a Christian in early life, uniting with the Reformed Presbyterian church at Kirkwood, Illinois, transferring her membership to North Page upon moving to that locality. When the church at North Page was abandoned she united with the Hepburn congregation, serving her Maker faithfully until the sunset of her life.

Obituary - Nora W. Wood was born to James Wallace and Edith Catherine Brownlee Wood on July 22, 1896 in Page County, Iowa.

Nora was preceded in death by her father on October 31, 1896, and her mother in June 1936.

She was graduated from Villisca High School in 1914, and worked for Dr J. Clark Cooper for 41 years.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Villisca, and served as its financial secretary and on the Stewardship Committee for the last three years.

She lived in Villisca most of her life, and passed away at Murphy Hospital of Red Oak on Oct 3, 1968, after a very brief illness.

Nora is survived by her uncle and his wife, Mr and Mrs Frank Brownlee of Yuma, Arizona (the brother of Nora's mother), several cousins and other relatives, and many friends who will miss and remember her dearly. VILLISCA REVIEW, Villisca, Iowa, Oct 10, 1968
