LaMar, Denise Lynn Rogers

Denise Lynn LaMar, 48, of Coggon, passed away on Tuesday, April 9 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Memorial service were held at Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon at a later date.
Survivors are her children, Krystal Harbin of Clarinda, Robin Black and her fiancé, Todd Larson of New Market, and Alan and his wife, Shelley LaMar of Rock Island, IL; her mother, Joyce Rogers of Coggon; her brother, Christopher Rogers of Cedar Rapids; her sisters, Debra Sterling of Cedar Rapids, Donna Geisler of Commerce City, CO, and Dee Wilson of Shenandoah; her grandchildren, Alissa, Gabriel, Brandon, Cameran, and Jaxon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Rogers, and her ex-partner, Frank "Joe" VanMeter.
Denise Lynn Rogers was born on Aug. 3, 1964 in Cedar Rapids to Wayne and Joyce Bruce Rogers. She was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon, and enjoyed arts and crafts, scrapbooking, and reading.

Latham, Berniece Lorraine Miner

Funeral services for Berniece Latham, age 80, of Clarinda, who entered into peace Saturday, Feb. 9 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska, were held 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Ritchie Funeral Home with Reverend Beckie Linn Gregory officiating. Visitation with the family was held 5-7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 11 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church Organ Fund. Bernice Lorraine Latham was born Jan. 17, 1933, in Centerville to Ransom Miner and Eunice (White) Miner. She grew up in the Centerville area and graduated from Centerville High School in 1950.
Berniece was a homemaker and raised her family. She was an avid crocheter and enjoyed making jewelry. Berniece enjoyed telling stories to her grandchildren about her family and taking rides in her car. She was a huge animal lover and especially enjoyed her dog, Sammy and cockatiel, Charlie. Berniece was a gentle and kind person.
Preceding Berniece in death were her parents; son, Mike; brother, George Miner; sisters, Martha Campbell and Peggy Miner.
Survivors include her sons, Vernon Latham of Clarinda, Miles Latham of Springfield, MO and Gary Latham, Robin Latham; daughters, Patricia Schmid of Livingston, MT and Lorraine Maedche of Clarinda; several grandchildren; brother, Harold Miner; sisters, Sharon Hamilin of Silvis, IL and Sandra Fincher of Moulton; nieces; nephews and friends.
Berniece will be missed by her family and friends. She will be forever in their hearts. May God grant comfort and peace to those who mourn her passing

Lekey, Cleatus Earl Jr

Cleatus Earl Lekey, Jr., son of Cleatus Earl, Sr., and Nellie (Ramsey) Lekey was born on December 3, 1931 at Burlington Jct., Missouri. He passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, February 4, 2013 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 81.
Growing up, Earl spent time in the four communities of Wichita, Kansas, Maryville, Missouri, Burlington Jct., Missouri and Sunnyside, Washington before settling in southwest Iowa after moving to Clarinda.
Earl proudly served his country during the Korean War. He enlisted in the Army on July 19, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri and served until being honorably discharged at Wolters Air Force Base in Texas on July 18, 1953.
On November 6, 1955, Earl was united in marriage to Lois Joan Elrod in Clarinda, Iowa. To this union five children were born, Cleatus Bert, Debora, Russell, Tina and Timothy. Following their marriage they made their home in Clarinda until later moving to Shenandoah.
Earl worked for several different employers through the years. They included: Griffin Pipe in Council Bluffs, Mount Arbor Nurseries and he worked as a farmhand for local farmers, Norman Bierbaum and Jesse McIntyre. He was a member of the Fifth Ave Methodist Church in Council Bluffs and the Shenandoah Eagles Club. In his spare time he loved to go fishing and he liked sitting in the yard under a big tree enjoying the shade during the summer.
Earl was preceded in death by his son Cleatus Bert Lekey, nephew Darwin Smith and great-granddaughter Deiyia Ruth Berry. Those left to cherish his memory include is wife Lois Lekey of Shenandoah, daughter Debora Lekey of Shenandoah, son Russell Lekey and wife Linda of Piedmont, South Dakota, daughter Tina Fox of Council Bluffs, son Timothy Lekey of Shenandoah, four grandchildren Jennifer, Tami, Julia, Steve and 10 great-grandchildren

Lewis, Gary L.

Gary L. Lewis son of Jesslee and Audrey L. (Morelock) Lewis was born September 25, 1941 at Hand Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa. Gary entered into eternal peace on Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Shenandoah Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Gary grew up in Shenandoah and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1959. At 17, Gary played in the USGA's Twelfth Junior Amateur Golf Championship at Stanford University. Then Gary went on to Clarinda College for one year. After college, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1961. He served honorably for four years.
Gary managed Country Clubs in Kansas City, Des Moines, Iowa City, Virginia Beach, and Norfolk, Virginia, and then settled in Shenandoah in 1972 with his wife Jeanne (Sipe) Lewis, daughter Barb (Lewis) Gerlach, and son, Dan Lewis. Gary managed the Elks Club for a year and then went on to work with his parents at Lewis Cleaners. Gary started Gary's Carpet Cleaning Service and worked there from 1977 to 1986. He then owned and operated the Headquarters in Shenandoah from 1986-2001.
Gary served on the Shenandoah City Council and Our House Daycare board. He enjoyed antiques, golfing, reading, and collecting stretch glass. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, Jesslee Lewis, daughter of Gary's oldest son Dave Lewis, and John Gerlach, Cain Zirfas, Clay Gerlach, Jessica Gerlach, and Cord Zirfas children of Gary's oldest daughter Barb.
Survivors include: mother Audrey Lewis of Shenandoah, Iowa and wife Jean Lewis of Shenandoah, Iowa; children Dave Lewis of Fort Madison, Iowa, Barb Gerlach and husband Chris Gerlach of Goshen, Kentucky, and Dan Lewis of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brother Michael Lewis and wife Sonja Lewis of Smithville, Missouri and brother-in-law John Sipe and wife Isai Sipe of Guthrie Center, Iowa and brother-in-law Ron Sipe of Panora, Iowa; grandchildren, Jesslee Lewis, John Gerlach, Cain Zirfas, Clay Gerlach, Jessica Gerlach, and Cord Zirfas, and several nieces and nephews. Limond, Kim Therese McAndrews

Kim Therese Limond,50, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Mercy Medical Center - North on February 11th, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 18th, at Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Church, Clinton. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17th at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (west side of Clinton Lawn cemetery). A WA-TAN-YE service will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the start of the visitation. Burial will take place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Lemke Funeral Homes is assisting the family with arrangements.
Kim was born July 30th, 1962 in Maquoketa, Iowa the daughter of Tom and Pat (Carraher) McAndrews. She was a 1980 graduate of Clarinda High School. She went on to acquire a Bachelor of Science at Northwest Missouri State and later a Master of Library Science at the University of Iowa. She was united in marriage to Philip Limond on April 24th, 1999.
For over 25 years she worked at the Clinton Public Library as a reference Librarian and Assistant Director.
She was a very active member of Prince of Peace Parish often lecturing and singing in the church choir. She was also President of the WA-TAN-YE club.
Kim loved to read and work cross word puzzles and Sudoku. She enjoyed playing games on computer and cooking. She loved animals especially her pet dog "Max". She especially loved to takes drives out to the area parks and walking on the river front. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Kim is survived by her husband Philip; one daughter- Nicole (Gregory Braun) Walker of Fort Madison, IA.; her parents - Tom and Pat McAndrews of Clarinda, IA.; one sister - Angie (Brad) Scheib of Plymouth, MN.; four brothers - Mark (Mary Frances) McAndrews of Des Moines, IA., Greg (Barbi) McAndrews of Ballwin, MO., Steve (Julie) McAndrews of Clarinda, IA., Shawn (Barb) of Clarinda, IA.; 19 nieces and nephews; Father in-law - William Limond of Morrison IL.; one sister-in-law- Melissa (Steve) Huizenga of Fulton, Ill., one brother in-law Steve (Linda) Limond of Rock Falls, IL., many aunts and uncles, cousins and many friends.
Kim was preceded in death by her grandparents and her mother in-law.

Livingston, Kenneth "Kenny" Earl

Kenny Earl Livingston answered God's call to go home on Thursday morning, at the Shenandoah Medical Center.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Farragut Alumni Association or the Farragut Fire and Rescue Department.

Kenneth Earl Livingston, 88 years and 1 month, son of Loren and Geneva (Pierce) Livingston, was born on March 5, 1925 on the family farm three miles south of Farragut, Iowa. He answered God's call on April 4, 2013 at the Shenandoah Medical Center following a brief illness.

Growing up in rural Farragut, Kenneth received his education from Centennial Country School and Farragut High School. On October 17, 1945 he was united in marriage to Rubye E. Johnson in Sidney, Iowa, while he was home on leave from the Army.

Following his discharge from the service, the couple made their home on the family farm south of Farragut. In 1975 they moved to their newly built home in Farragut. Kenneth farmed the family farm and also began working at Eaton Corporation in 1972, retiring in 1988. After retiring Kenneth enjoyed working in the garden, taking pride in his well manicured yard and flower gardens and feeding the birds. He was an avid fan of the Farragut Admirals and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed playing cards. Kenneth was a lifetime member of the American Legion, a 51 year member of the Nishnabotany Masonic Lodge, a longtime member of the Farragut Volunteer Fire Department, the Farragut United Methodist Church and was currently a board member at Admiral Manor.

He was welcomed into heaven by his best friend and wife of nearly 60 years Rubye; his parents; brother Max Livingston; sister Lola Mae Durfey Ossian; and great-grandson Bryant Lashier.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughters Barbara Miller and husband Tom of Farragut and Denise Hammer and husband Denny of Tabor; five grandchildren Michele Burkhiser, Christin Lashier, Jason Burkhiser (Angie), Melinda McCormick (Mike) and Matthew Hammer; 11 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends

Loghry, Leland Lloyd

Leland Lloyd Loghry was born on September 1, 1929 in Hepburn, Iowa, the son of John and Lena (Burns) Loghry. He passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Eiler House in Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 22 days.

Leland moved to Shenandoah as a child and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1948. Upon graduating, Leland joined the United States Navy and served in the Korean War.

He married Evelyn Green on April 8, 1951 in Blockton, Iowa. This union was blessed with six children; Bill, Linda, Beverly, Kathy, Larry and Dianne.

Leland lived most of his life on the farm. Besides farming, he worked various jobs including construction and Eatons Corporation from which he retired.

Since retiring, Leland enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed caring for his farm animals, gardening and was actively involved in the Shenandoah Assembly of God Church. He volunteered at the Coin Library, served on the Coin City Council and mowed lawns for elderly widows.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lena; his sister Haroldene; and his brothers Harold, Leo and Virgil. Lusk, Lois "Arlene" McCurdy

Funeral services for Arlene Lusk, age 90, of Clearmont, Missouri, who entered into peace Friday, February 1, 2013 at Golden Living, Maryville, Missouri, will be held 10:30 Monday, February, 4, 2013 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Alvin Reed officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 2-4 p.m., Sunday, February 3 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Braddyville Cemetery, Braddyville, Iowa. Memorials may be given in Arlene's name for community projects.

Lois Arlene Lusk was born December 10, 1922 near Braddyville, Iowa at the family home to Lloyd McCurdy and Beulah (Nicholas) McCurdy. She grew up in the Braddyville area and had three brothers and three sisters. Arlene attended Center Country School and graduated from Braddyville High School in 1940. While in high school she played on the girl's basketball team. On April 22, 1942, she was united in marriage to Truman Lusk in San Diego, California while he was in the service. They were blessed with three children, Danny, Nancy and Lou Ann.

Arlene had a very strong work ethic, working several places during her working career. She and Truman owned and operated the Braddyville grocery store and later worked at Morris Grocery, Clearmont; was a cook at the Clearmont and Burlington Junction schools and retired from the Lisle Corporation.

Arlene was a life long member of the Braddyville Christian Church. She enjoyed watching basketball, crafts, gardening and especially her flowers. Arlene was very close to her sisters and enjoyed activities with them including bowling, craft projects and cooking together making donuts and other goodies for all of the kids to enjoy. Her family was a priority and she attended all of her children's and grandchildren's activities. She loved to make cookies to send home with her grandchildren and Danny remembers the many cakes, cookies and letters she would send while he was in Vietnam.

Preceding Arlene in death were her parents; husband, Truman (03/03/1969); brothers, William McCurdy, Truman McCurdy and Stanley McCurdy.

Lynn, Mary Virginia Book

Mary Virginia Lynn, 91, of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, formerly of Shenandoah, Iowa passed away July 13, 2013 at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

Mrs. Lynn was born November 25, 1921 on the family farm east of Shenandoah, the daughter of the late Mark and Grace Book. She attended Lone Star Country School and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1939. Following graduation, Virginia entered The Clarkson School of Nursing, Omaha, Nebraska, graduating in 1942. March 16, 1942, Virginia was united in marriage to Lowell Lynn. Upon Lowell's return from military duty in the European Theater, they made their home in Shenandoah. To this union their daughters, Rebecca, Jean and Joan were born.

Virginia worked as a Registered Nurse in this community for many years. Her hobbies included, but were not limited to, quilting, cooking and biking. She and Lowell participated in RAGBRAI multiple times. She also enjoyed traveling to visit her children and grandchildren. Virginia was a member of The Clarkson Alumnae Association, the American Legion Auxiliary, DAR, VFW Auxiliary and a Lifetime Member of the Presbyterian Women.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Lowell, a brother, Robert W. Book, sons-in-law Randall C. Bird, and Thomas W. Laughlin, great grandson Isaac N. Bird, sister-in-law Mary Rose Book and niece Mary Virginia Book.

Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca (Chris) West of Louisville, Kentucky, Joan Bird of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Jean Laughlin of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; grandchildren Jennifer (West) McMahan and John of Lakeside Park, Kentucky and daughters Amelia and Melorah, Sarah (Laughlin) Zinser and Roy of Yorktown, Virginia and son Rick, Matthew and Melissa Bird of Louisville, Kentucky and children Zachary, Emily, Samuel and Levi, Adam and RaeAnn Bird of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania and children Collin and Bethany, Meredith (Bird) Pfister and Matt of Rapid City, South Dakota. Mary Lou Madden was born Oct. 4, 1920 in the family farm home, rural Clarinda, to Bert Olin Negley and Maud (McCoy) Negley. She grew up in the rural Clarinda/Villisca area attending rural schools and graduating from Villisca High School and continued her education with a year of college. She was united in marriage Sept. 27, 1940, to Manley Madden, Jr. They were blessed with two children, Philip and Susan.
Mary Lou taught country school for one year and then taught school at Hepburn, Iowa. She and Manley farmed for twenty five years. Mary Lou managed the college dormitory at IWCC Clarinda Campus 1965-78. She was elected Treasurer of Page County and served from 1979-86.
Mary Lou was a member of the Fairview Church of Christ and her church was very important to her. She also enjoyed being a longtime member of PEO. Her family was very important to her and she loved hearing from and being with her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Manley Madden Jr. (10/12/1983); brother, Paul Negley and sister, Katherine Goldsberry.
