My father, Robert Alexander Cameron, became the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Clarinda in 1911. He and my mother were married June 15, 1911 in Kirkwood, Missouri and made Clarinda [Iowa] their first home. I was born June 6, 1913 in Victor, Montana, a very small town of 500 people. I asked my mother once, how come we moved to Montana. She said that my Dad, just out of seminary and a supply minister for the Kirkwood church, had been too modern for the conservative Iowa Church and I guess he was asked to leave. Presbytery found him this little church in Montana. Needless to say, that humiliating experience did not stop my Dad's career. He was a very successful minister in Montana, Washington State and in several churches of Southern California where he ministered until in his 70's. |
There were news items in the Clarinda newspapers about the above family. For further research please check these issues: Clarinda Herald, May 13, 1909; Jun 22, 1911; Jul 27, 1911; Mar 14, 1912; May 9, 1912; Nov 7, 1912; Jul 3, 1913. |
