Onawa Weekly Democrat 25Jan1900 Local News A case was brought by certain citizens of Moorhead before Judge Gaynor to set aside the election held for the purpose of incorporating the town on alleged irregularies. The decision of the court is that owing to said irregularities the proceedings were illegal. Brown and Anderson were the attorneys on the part of the citizens. This leaves the people of Moorhead ready for a new move in the matter of municipal incorporation.

Monona County Gazette 18Jan1900 Local News Wednesday at the residence of E.E. Bakke and wife a pleasant home wedding occurred when their oldest daughter, Louise A., was married to Rev. Aaron S. Johnson of Sioux Rapids IA. At 6PM the sweet strains of the wedding march played by Jennie Ballard announced the approach of the bride and groom with Agnes Bakke, sister of the bride, as maid of honor and Godfrey Johnson, brother of the groom as best man, took their places in front of the double windows in the west parlor. Rev. C.H. Hjortholm performed the ceremony which was witnessed by 65 of the immediate relatives and intimate friends of the contracting parties. Supper was served by Mrs. Oscar Bakke, assisted by Mrs. Nessle, Emma Andrews, Annie Peterson and Molly Kelly. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson left Thursday night for Elbow Lake MN where Mr. Johnson is pastor of the Norwegian church at that place. The following were the out of town guests: A. Gilbertson of Mapleton, Miss Aggie Bakke of Albaton, Mrs. Durman and Mollie Kelly of Whiting, Godfrey and Miss Anna Johnson, H.A. Johnson and wife, Mrs. Amon Johnson, Mrs. J.S. Onawa Weekly Democrat 11Jan1900 The tract of land near Onawa known as the "Weare Ranch" and owned by Charles A. Weare of Chicago as trustee, was sold by Messrs. Bird and Searle of Onawa to David Hamin of Eltaso IL for $38 per acre. The farm contained 640 acres and the consideration footed up the comfortable sum of $24,320.
Onawa Weekly Democrat 25Jan1900 Local News Mr. Glamon who is the manager of the Weare interests in this part of Iowa was in town over Sunday. The Weare ranch which originally consisted of between two and three thousant acres, has all been sold in parts to Illinois parties, until there remains now only about 600 acres, and Mr. Glamon thinks he will be able to dispose of the remainder by spring.

The former was decided in favor of plaintiff and the latter in favor of defendants. In the case of C.R. Blackman vs L. Kessler and John Eads the supreme court reversed the decision which had been in favor of defendants.

The Mapleton Press 26Jan1900 Charles Goodwin left Tuesday morning for Chester NE where he expects to take up his permanent residence. Mr. Goodwin has been a resident of this vicinity for the past five years, having given his attention to farming in Cooper township. In 1898 he was married to a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Beechler, but whose untimely death followed last August. He is a member in good standing of Iowa camp #230. Woodmen of the World and at the regular meeting of the camp Monday evening bade his brother Woodmen farewell, providing each with a choice cigar. We hope to hear of Mr. Goodwin's prosperity in his new home.

There ceremony was performed at 9 o'clock, after which the relatives of the bride and groom of whom only were present, were ushered into the dining room where they partook of a sumptuous supper. These are two of Maple township's best young people and it gives us pleasure to congratulate them on their union and wish for them the best a long and happy life affords.

It was feared the sight had been impaired but it is found to be only a slight hurt.

Monona County Gazette 25Jan1900 Local News At the trial of W.T. Popejoy and Frank Hurst Friday of last week the jury returned a verdict of guilty as charged -- the charge being in effect extortion. Both defendants were tried together and upon the return of the verdict by the jury were given until 12Feb1900 to file motion for new trial and 2 o'clock that day fixed for passing upon the motion or pronouncing judgment and sentence by the court. Ex-county Attorney B.F. Ross, by appointment of the court, defended Popejoy and Ed. L. Conlin by the same authority defended Hurst. County Attorney W.L. Smith prosecuted the case with energy while the defendant's attorneys stoutly contested every inch of the ground. It is stated by many who were present that Ed Conlin made an unusually able and touching address to the jury on behalf of defendant Hurst and that his remarks made a deep impression upon all who where privileged to hear him.
