                                      Farmer, Sec. 18; P.O. Marshalltown; owns 120 acres of land, valued at $40 per acre; born Nov. 14, 1829, in Adams Co., Penn.; went from there to Lee Co., Ill., in the Spring of 1850; followed carpenter and joiner business, with the exception of the time he was in the service of his country. Enlisted Aug. 12, 1862, in Co. G, 75th Ill. V.I., and was mustered out July 3, 1865; was in the battle of Perryville, Ky., where he was wounded; was also at the battle of Stone River, Tenn. Married Alice Van Vranken March 23, 1869; she was born May 23, 1847, in Onondaga Co., N.Y.; have three children—Ida A., Gertrude E. and George. Member of the Presbyterian Church; Republican.
