Advance, 26 Oct 1939: August F. Judiesch born Prenslau, Germany. At
age 2 years came to America with parents trip taking 40 days. his
father, a German Congregational Minister settled in Davenport, Iowa
where he established a German Congregational Church. Ran away to war
at age 15, went to Missouri where he enlisted as private of Captain
John G. Reid's Co. (A 9 Iowa Cavalry). Enrolled on 16th day of Feb
1864. Served 2 years 2 months. Discharged April 1866, Little Rock,
Arkansas.
After
the war, he entered harness business, but later became mail clerk at
Davenport, Iowa. Later moved to Winterset, Iowa where he opened a
shoe store in business for himself. After five years he moved to
Holstein, Iowa where he again entered the postal service as a rural
mail carrier and remained there for 25 years and was honorably
retired. After coming to California, his wife died 27 May 1933. he
joined the Pasadena G.A.R. Post. Returned to Iowa August 1939 and
killed in an auto accident.
