Winterset Church of the Nazarene was organized August 8, 1958 following tent meetings which had been in progress for six weeks. Rev. Oliver Morgan, his wife Ruth, and daughter Mardell were the Evangelists for the meetings.

Dr. Gene Phillips, District Superintendent for Iowa, organized the church with three members: Andrew Overdyk, Elizabeth Kilmer, and Clara Overdyk. Vandals tore the tent down so they began holding services in the Wayne Ackleson home while the present building was being erected. Services began in the new sanctuary in November 1961. The first pastor was Rev. Evleyn McKinney and, when she moved to Portland, Oregon, Rev. Leon Ralph Seagar took her place. Rev. Seagar had 3 boys and, with his wife Ruth, they made a great pastoral family.

The building had nearly reached its capacity when attendance began falling off and Rev. Seagar accepted a church position in Des Moines. Rev. Keith Archer, his wife Marge, and four children accepted the pastorate.

Rev. Dennis Thomasson became the next pastor followed by Rev. Glenn Brennan and Family. Rev. David Hunter came when the Brennans moved to another pastorate in Iowa.

Rev. Hunter and his wife Dorothy stayed until his health no longer could stand the strain. Rev. Daniel Borger, his wife Michelle, and son Aaron came and later another son, Jonathon, blessed their home. They are our preset pastoral family.

The Nazarene Church is a Holiness Church as taught in the scripture. All visitors are always welcome to any or all of the services at the Winterset Church of the Nazarene.
