Iona (Fox) Beek

Iona Beek age 92 of Sibley, Osceola county, Iowa died Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center in Sibley.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 7, 2008 at Salem Reformed Church of Little Rock, Lyon county, Iowa.
Burial followed in Pleasant View Cemetery at Little Rock.
Iona (Fox) Beek was born October 16, 1915, at Ashton, Obrien county, Iowa the daughter of John and Fannie (Kruger) Fox. Iona grew up in Ashton and Little Rock area where she attended school. She was united in marriage to Henry Beek on March 14, 1945, at Little Rock. After their marriage Iona and Henry first farmed near Little Rock for ten years. In 1955, they moved to Cherokee, Iowa where they purchased and operated the Skyline Motel. In 1959, they moved to Sibley, Iowa where they purchased the Gamble Store in downtown Sibley. Iona and Henry later settled in Le Mars, Iowa in 1967, where they ran a Gamble Store and Iona did some janitorial work. In 1995, they moved back to Sibley. Iona was a true caregiver, caring for her family was always at the top of her priorities. They resided in their home until becoming residents of Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center in June of 2001. In December of 2001, Iona’s husband, Henry died.
She is survived by a sister, Arlene Henrichs of Little Rock, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Karla (Troy) Fosse of New York Mills, Minnesota; Sheila (Dan) Moore of Boston, Massechusetts; Pamela (Roger) Stice of Skiatook, Oklahoma; Paula (Tom) Koelzer of Omaha, Nebraska; Michael Martin of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Russell Martin of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Rebecca (Marty) Lueck of Ironton, Minnesota and 16 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
Iona was preceded in death by her parents, John and Fannie; her husband, Henry and her daughter, Verona.
Rosalie Heikes

Rosalie Heikes, age 88 of Rock Rapids, Lyon county, Iowa died Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, July 30th at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids.
Burial followed at the Grand Prairie Cemetery near Ellsworth, Nobles county, Minnesota.
Rosalie was born December 21, 1919 at her family home in Lynd, Minnesota to Roy and Vinnie (Austin) Nicholson. She graduated from Lynd High school in 1938 and was a 1941 graduate from the School of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota, where she met her future husband. Rosalie was married to George P. Heikes on March 22, 1947. George passed away on March 14, 2005 just 8 days short of their 60th wedding anniversary.
The couple farmed northeast of Ellsworth their entire lives before retirement. In 1997, they hosted a celebration to mark a century of family farming. In 1978, they moved into Ellsworth. They moved into Premier Estates in Rock Rapids in 2003 and the Rock Rapids Health Centre in 2005.
Rosalie was very active in Ellsworth and surrounding communities serving the school PTA, Congregational Church Sunday School as teacher and superintendent, American Legion Auxiliary, Nobles County Welfare Board member, Red Cross volunteer, started a NAMI chapter in Nobles Co., member of the DAR, and Society of Mayflower Descendents. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rock Rapids. During World War II, she worked as a nurse’s aid at Gillette State Hospital for Crippled Children. She worked for 10 years at Arnold Memorial Nursing Home in Adrian as a nurse’s aide and later volunteered as a Gray Lady. She enjoyed bird watching, embroidering, gardening, reading, ceramics, and was a wonderful cook. She was a faithful letter writer keeping in touch with many people she had met throughout her life.
Rosalie is survived by two sons, Lambert (Norma) Heikes, Lusby, Maryland; Carleton (Lisa) Heikes, Ellsworth; three daughters, Jennifer Collins, Spicer; Cynette (Jerry) Wipf, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Janet Heikes (Steven Sullivan), Hoffman Estates, IL; one sister, Florence Lund Williams, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, eleven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George P. Heikes and her grandson, David Collins.

Roberta (Ford) PETERSON
1922-2008

Roberta Peterson, age 86 of Lyons, Kansas, formerly of Rock Rapids, Lyon county, Iowa died Friday, August 8, 2008 at Lyons Good Samaritan Home in Lyons, Kansas.
The funeral service was, Thursday, August 14th at United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids. Burial was at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.
Roberta Ford was born March 17, 1922 to Ernest and Lucy May (Huddleson) Ford in Zion, Iowa. She received her early education in Zion and later graduated as a registered nurse from nursing school in Iowa City, Iowa. She worked as a nurse in Des Moines, Iowa, until the time of her marriage. On February 5, 1949 Roberta was united in marriage to John Peterson and the couple made their home in Rock Rapids. To this union two children were born, Greg and Susan.
In Rock Rapids, Roberta was a member of the United Methodist Church and was involved with the Eastern Star and Girl Scouts. She was a very community minded person and enjoyed helping where she could. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed making a beautiful landscape of color year after year in the back yard of their house in Rock Rapids. Roberta loved nature, especially flowers, plants and trees, in particular evergreen trees. She also very much enjoyed watching the birds as they visited her yard and garden. Roberta and John lived in Rock Rapids until 1969 when John was transferred to the St. Louis, Missouri area with his job. In 1999 they moved to Creston, Iowa to be closer to family and later to Marquette, Kansas. In 2003, John passed away ending their marriage of fifty four years. This past Friday, August 8th, Roberta passed away at the age of 86. She will be remembered as a cheerful and bubbly person and her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren had very deep roots. She will be missed by many.
Roberta is survived by one son, Greg Peterson and his wife Charlene of Quamado, New Mexico; and one daughter, Susan Anderson and her husband Michael of Geneseo, Kansas. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gerald (Jeanette) Ford of Creston, Iowa and Edward (Dorothy) Ford of Orange, California; sisters, Barbara Brownrigg of Creston, Iowa, and Phyllis (Daryl) Haan of Odessa, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John Junior Peterson; brothers, Almond Ford, Ernest Ford Jr. and Robert Ford.
