Harm Siebrands, 58, who famred northwest of George for many years, passed away at his home on Friday of last week. Mr. Siebrands had been in poor health for some time.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday from the Siebrands farm home and from the Hope Reformed Church with Rev. W. Rosenboom officiating. Funeral arrangements were made by the Vogelaar Funeral Service of George.
The following obituary was read at the service:
Harm Siebrands was born September 11, 1887 at Freeport, Illinois. He was the second child of Peter Siebrands and his wife, nee Wena Modder.
In 1902 the family came to George and settled on a farm in the vicinity of George.
He attended school at Freeport, Illinois, and in Lyon County where he lived the remaining years of his life.
On March 5, 1914 he was baptized by Rev. Ziegler.
On the first day of March, 1910, he married Miss Julia Caroline Blum. To this union six children were born; one died in infancy. On September 17, 1942, the mother of the family died.
He had been in good health until a few years ago. During the past summer he suffered a great deal with heart trouble, but the last six weeks he seemed to be improving. His death came as a shock to the family for on Thursday he hadn't been feeling well but nothing alarming. That evening he talked to his son, Herman, about the farm. A few hours after they had both retired he called his son for help and in a few minutes his earthly life ended -- attaining the age of 58 years, one month and seven days. He died on October 18, 1945.
He leaves to mourn his departure, 2 daughters and 3 sons, Alvina, Mrs. Alfred Hansman and John of George, Pete, serving in the Navy at San Francisco, Calif., Herman at home, and Caroline, Mrs. Ben Dreesen of Little Rock; six grandchildren; 2 brothers, Dick and William of George, and 1 sister, Annie, Mrs. Frank Heeren of Northwood, North Dakota.
