Henry "Hank" Krull
1913 - 2001

Henry "Hank" Krull Jr. was born July 25, 1913 at rural George, Iowa, the son of Henry and Abbie (Sprock) Krull, Sr. He grew up and attended country school in the George area. On December 22, 1939, Hank married Margaret Siebrands of George. Hank then worked on a farm between George and Little Rock, Iowa. In 1942 Hank and Margaret moved to their farm in Edna, where they spent the next 19 years. In 1961 they moved to a farm near Luverne, Minnesota.

His family remembers him as a farmer who never really retired from his Life's work. He continued to be involved with the farming operation even though he had difficulty walking and he would use his pickup and came to get into the tractor. Hank loved his family and grandchildren, and appreciated the times spent with them helping with the milking or other chores around the farm. His grandhcildren remember him always wearing bib overalls and they liked carrying the milk and riding the tractor.

During his years of farming Hank used John Deere equipment and he has kept his first John Deere tractor on the farm.

Two years ago Hank suffered a stroke, but with the loving care of his family he was able to live his remaining days at home. Last Tuesday, June 5, 2001, Hank died peacefully in his sleep at the age of eighty-seven years, 10 months and 10 days.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 7, 2001 at Americaqn Reformed Church of Luvernce, Minnesota, with Rev. David Sikkena officiating. Burial was in the Hope Reformed Cemetery, George, Iowa. Roste Funeral Home of Hills was in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret of Beaver Creek, Minnesota, along with two children, Donna Popkes of Ellsworth, Minnesota, and Robert Krull and his wife Marilyn of Beaver Creek. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Wendy (Mark) Leemkuil of Little Rock, Iowa, Dorene (Kim Joe) Chapa, Darrin (Nancy) Popkes, Gaylon Popkes, Dawn (Korey) Meester all of Ellsworth, Minnesota, Melinda, Rachel and Randy Krull of Beaver Creek, along with nine great-grandchildren: Marissa, Maranda and Mariah Leemkuil, Lizzie Chapa, Megan Popkes, Brian and Tyler Popkes, Paige and Cole Meester. Also surviving him are a brother, Alvin (Henrietta) Krull of Geroge, Iowa, and four sisters: Caroline Gruis and Iona Krull of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Frances Groen of Little Rock and Betty (John) Gronewald of George, along with three sisters-in-law, Johanna Krull of Little Rock, Phyllis Krull and Evelyn Olson both of Rock Rapids.

Preceding Hank in death were his parents,son-in-law Murnice Popkes, one grandson, Merlyn Popkes, four brothers, Weert, Fred, Ivan and Harold Krull and two sisters, Grace, Mrs. Fred Klaahsen and Sena, Mrs. Harm Krull.

Harm Siebrands
1887-1945

Funeral Services Held At Hope Reformed Church On Wednesday Afternoon

Harm Siebrands, 58, who famred northwest of George for many years, passed away at his home on Friday of last week. Mr. Siebrands had been in poor health for some time.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday from the Siebrands farm home and from the Hope Reformed Church with Rev. W. Rosenboom officiating. Funeral arrangements were made by the Vogelaar Funeral Service of George.

The following obituary was read at the service:

Harm Siebrands was born September 11, 1887 at Freeport, Illinois. He was the second child of Peter Siebrands and his wife, nee Wena Modder.

In 1902 the family came to George and settled on a farm in the vicinity of George.

He attended school at Freeport, Illinois, and in Lyon County where he lived the remaining years of his life.

On March 5, 1914 he was baptized by Rev. Ziegler.

On the first day of March, 1910, he married Miss Julia Caroline Blum. To this union six children were born; one died in infancy. On September 17, 1942, the mother of the family died.

He had been in good health until a few years ago. During the past summer he suffered a great deal with heart trouble, but the last six weeks he seemed to be improving. His death came as a shock to the family for on Thursday he hadn't been feeling well but nothing alarming. That evening he talked to his son, Herman, about the farm. A few hours after they had both retired he called his son for help and in a few minutes his earthly life ended -- attaining the age of 58 years, one month and seven days. He died on October 18, 1945.

He leaves to mourn his departure, 2 daughters and 3 sons, Alvina, Mrs. Alfred Hansman and John of George, Pete, serving in the Navy at San Francisco, Calif., Herman at home, and Caroline, Mrs. Ben Dreesen of Little Rock; six grandchildren; 2 brothers, Dick and William of George, and 1 sister, Annie, Mrs. Frank Heeren of Northwood, North Dakota.

His wife, parents and one infant son preceded him in death.

Harold Klaassen
1914-2003

Harold H. Klaassen was born October 5, 1914 in Lyon County, Iowa, to Klaas H. and Amelia (Van Lauen) Klaassen. He went home to Heaven on March 15, 2003 from the Minneota Manor Nursing Home after a short fight against cancer.

Harold grew up in and around the farming communities of Little Rock and George, Iowa. As a young man he moved with his family to rural Taunton, where he continued to farm. He also worked for Helmer Anderson's Stdebaker and Minneapolis Moline dealership as a mechanic.

Harold was united in marriage on March 20, 1947 to Marvel Mae Cleveland, the daughter of Carlton and Etta (Gosler) Cleveland. They continued farming until the early 1960's when Harold joined the Minnesaota Police Force. Later becoming Chief of Police. Harold and Marvel moved to Marshall in 1969 where Harold was employed as head mechanic at Deurz & Crow until his retirement.

After retirement Harold took great pride in his yard, flower and vegetable gardens.

Harold and Marvel were charter members of the Marshall Evengelical Free church, where he served in many capacities over the years.

Haold will be missed by his three daughters, Anita (Richard) MacDonald, LaDonna (Bob Blanchette) Kamies, and Wanda (Ronald) Stenzel of Marshall; his son, Ssgt Christopher (Zena Honellio) Klaassen of Grand Forks Air Force Base; nine grandchildren: Jeremy John Kamies, Mollie Beth (Chad Herman) Benson, Bridget Johanna (Rich) Arkell, Andrew Christian Jenson, Ronda Mae Stenzel, Anthony James Stenzel, Robyn Myria Stenzel, Rachel Christine Stenzel, and Asha Marie Klaassen; one grandson-in-law Chris Berghorst; one great-granddaughter, McKenzy Beth Herman; one stepgrandson, Steven MacDonald; a brother, Vernon (Gail) Klaassen; two sisters, Marie (John) Starkenberg, and Hattie Manguson.

There was great rejoicing in Heaven when Harold was greeted by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his wife Marvel, his parents, his in-laws, and one granddaughter, Karla Dawn (Kamies) Berghorst.

Henry E. Kruse
1921 - 1991

Funeral services for Henry E. Kruse, age 69, of George, Iowa, were held on Saturday at Hope Reformed Church, George, with burial in the church cemetery.

Henry was born on March 26, 1921, near White, South Dakota, the son of Eilert P. and Ida (Kanengieter) Kruse. He moved to the George area as a child and attended country schools.

On August 29, 1945 he married Mae Siebrands at the Hope Reformed parsonage at George, Iowa. The couple farmed west of George and Mr. Kruse was also an electrician. In 1990 the couple retired into town. Henry was active in the Hope Reformed Church, serving as both a Deacon and an Elder.

He died on Thursday January 31, 1991 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa, at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 6 days.

Survivors include his wife Mae of George; two nephews, Dwayne Siebrands of Sheldon and Alan Siebrands of Good Thunder, Minnesota, and one sister, Mrs. Mattie Fisher of George, Iowa. Three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Kruse of George, Mrs. Arlys Kruse of Little Rock, Iowa, Mrs. Donna Kruse of Rock Rapids, Iowa, one brother-in-law, Peter and his wife Georgia Siebrands of Payson, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by three brothers, Peter, John and Andrew; and by two sisters, Lena and Annie.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 2, 1991 at Hope Reformed Church, rural George, Iowa. Burial was in the Hope Reformed Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Bolin Funeral Service of George.

Herman R. Siebrands
1923 - 1971

Herman R. Siebrands was born on October 16, 1923, and died on June 2, 1971, at the age of 47 years, 7 months and 16 days.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 7, 1971 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George, Iowa, Rev. J. Kronlokken officiated. Military rites were conducted by the American Legion Post 404 of George, Iowa.

He was survived by his wife, Lucy; a step-son, Fred Pitsenberg; a step-grandson, one brother, Pete Doon; two sisters, Alvina (Mrs. Alfred Hansman), of George, and Caroline (Mrs. Ben Dreesen) of Little Rock.

Hilda Margaret (Bruns) Klinkenborg
1922 - 2003

Hilda Margaret (Bruns) Klinkenborg was born on August 11, 1922, at George, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Christine (Goldhorn) Bruns. Hilda grew up on the family farm and attended country school and graduated from George High School. She continued her education at Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she received her teacher's training.

On June 30, 1943, Hilda married Elmore Jack Klinkenborg. She then taught country school near George. As her family grew she stayed home to raise her family and work around the farm and her garden.

In 1962 Hilda and her family moved to Hilda's father's farm where they farmed until they retired to town in 1992. Hilda was always very active. She was an active member of the Hope Reformed Church where she had taught Sunday School, attended Esther Circle, and was a member of the American Legion Auxilliary. For many years Hilda was a very devoted caregiver for her husband, Elmore Jack, who had ALS. On April 14, 1996, her husband, Elmore died, ending their marriage of 52 years.

After his death she continued to live in their home at George. A couple of years ago she moved to Premier Estates and on July 11, 2002 she became a resident of Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rock Rapids, where she died on Thursday evening, November 13, 2003 at the age of 81.

Hilda is survived by her Childred, Kerwin and his wife Alice of Rock Rapids, Iowa; Nadean of Nye, Montana; Keith and his wife Kay of Alexandria, Virginia; and Dale and his wife, Ronda of George; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters: Lorraine Wibben, Beverly and Daryl Janssen, and Augusta and Keith Hansman, all of George, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmore Jack; her parents, Henry and Christine; and one infant brother.

Funeral services were held on November 18, 2003 at Hope Reformed Church in George, Iowa, with Rev. David Vander Laan officiating. Casket bearers were: Narj Janssen, Darwin Wibben, Chris Kinkenborg, Chad Kinkenborg, John Wainaina, and Rodney Krull. Interment was in the Evergree Lawn Cemetery, George, Iowa.

Arrangements were by the Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

William Siebrands
1889 - 1973

Dec. 17, 1889 -- Feb. 28, 1973

William Siebrands was born December 17, 1889 at Freeport, Illinois, to Peter and Wienia (Modder) Siebrands.

At the age of 12 the family moved to the vicinity of George, where he lived the rest of his life.

On October 23, 1912 he was united in marriage with Minnie Goldhorn. Mr. and Mrs. Siebrands observed their 60th wedding anniversary last Oct. To this union two children were born, Peter and Mae. Upon their retirement Mr. and Mrs. Siebrands continued to live on their farm place 1½ miles west of George.

Although Mr. Siebrands was able to be up and about he did not enjoy good health for quite a number of years. He was admitted to the hospital on February 19. His condition became worse each day until he passed away on Wednesday, February 28 at 1:30 P.M., having reached the age of 83 years, 2 months and 11 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 1 infant grandson.

He is survived by his wife; by his son, Peter W. Siebrands of La Crescenta, California, by a daughter, Mrs. Henry (Mae) Kruse of George, by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Georgia Siebrands, and by a son-in-law, Henery Kruse, by three grandchildren: Dwayne Siebrands, Alan Siebrands of Amboy, Minnesota, and Pamela Siebrands of George, a sister, Mrs. Annie Heeren, of Little Rock, Iowa.

Mr. Siebrands was a member of the Hope Reformed Church, having united with this church in 1914. [ View His Service Folder ]

Irene (Schrick) Siebrands
1917-1988

Mrs. Irene Siebrands was born on July 29, 1917 at rural George, Iowa, the daughter of Behrend and Martha (Kruse) Schrick. She was a life-long resident of the George area.

She married Ben Siebrands on June 1, 1941 at George, Iowa and they farmed near George. SHe was an active member of the Central Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held on April 23, 1988 at Central Baptist Church in George, Iowa. [No death date was given.]

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Ben; four children: Mrs. Martys Ackerman of Bloomington, Minnesota; Dick Siebrands of Phoenix, Arizona; Paul Siebrands of George, Iowa; and Alda Siebrands of Coos Bay, Oregon; four grandchildren: Jill Carlson, Todd Ackerman, Kimberley Siebrands and Trena Siebrands; one brother, Melvin Schrick of George, Iowa; three sisters: Mrs. Anna Duin of George, Iowa; Mae (Mrs. Elmer Kersten) of George, Iowa; and Mrs. Ruth Tirrel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Burial was in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, George, Iowa.

Vogelaar-Bolin Funeral Service of George, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.

Irvin Charles Klaassen
1927 - 2003

Irvin Charles Klaassen was born on February 3, 1927, northwest of Little Rock, Iowa, the son of Fred and Amy (Boom) Klaassen. As Irvin grew up he lived in Osceola and Lyon counties where he attended country school.

In 1945 Irvin graduated from Little Rock High School. After his education he drove truck for a short time. On February 4, 1949 Irvin married Marlyce Nachtigal at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in George, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Little Rock. Irvin farmed there from 1050 until 1989 when they moved into Little Rock. Irvin continued to farm and in 1995 he officially retired, but still continued to help around the farm.

In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, travelling and wintering in Mesa, Arizona. He enjoyed helping his family and his community with any activity.

Irvin was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, where he served on a session, was a member of the Town & Country Development Club and the Freedom CLub.

In December of 2001 he was diagnosed with cancer and was able to fight the disease until his death this past Friday morning, August 15, 2003, when he died at his home in Little Rock at the age of 76.

A funeral service was held on August 18, 2003 at First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, Iowa, with Rev. Kenneth Mac Leod officiating. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Little Rock.

He is survived by his wife, Marlyce of Little Rock; by four children: Mark Klaassen and his wife Pam of Huxley, Iowa; Ardella Reitmeier and her husband Jim of Brewster, Minnesota; Lonnie Klaassen and his wife Marcia of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and Doreen Brunning and her husband Larry of Storm Lake, Iowa; along with 12 grandchildren: Kim (John) Weidert, Barry Klaassen, Korrisa (Lee) Kramer, Amie, Jamie and Jessie Reitmer, Traci, Tyler and Kyle Klaassen, and Dustin, Jordan and Camie Brunning; three great-grandchildren, Cole and Christian Weidert, and Mackenzie Kramer; and one sister, Eleanor Wibben of George, Iowa.

Irvin was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Virginia Rosenboom.

Jimmie Gerken
1951 - 1954

Jimmie Gerken was born on October 5, 1951, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gerken. He passed away at the young age of three years, one month and 15 days, on November 20, 1954.

Funeral services were held on November 22, 1954, at Zoar Presbyterian Church, with Rev. I.F. Hayenga officiating. Burial was in the Zoar Presbyterian Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Johnny Gerken, Gary DeBoer, Dickie Siebrands, and Arthur Symens.

Arrangements were by Vodelaar Funeral Service of George, Iowa.

John H. Klaassen
1895 - 1977

John H. Klaassen was born on March 9, 1895, to Harm and Hattie Wichman Klaassen in Grant Township, Lyon County, Iowa, south of Little Rock. He attended school and spent his childhood days in Grant Township.

He married Edith Klaasen on January 31, 1917, in Zoar Presbyterian Church. To this union were born twelve children. They lived near George and they also lived throughout their married life near Ellsworth and Little Rock. In 1961 they retired and moved to Little Rock.

He was a member of the Salem Reformed Church. For nine years he served as a supervisor in Lyon County. He became ill on November 30, and passed away at the Sibley hospital on December 4, 1977, at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 25 days.

He is survived by eleven children: Harmon of Worthington, Minnesota, Helena (Mrs. Richard Sprock) of Sioux Falls, S.D., Raymond of Ellsworth, Minn., Esther (Mrs. Everon Kinkenborg) of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Ruth (Mrs. Albertus Van Westen) of LuVerne, Minn., Alma (Mrs. Elmer De Buhr) of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Alfred of Ellsworth, Minn., Lois (Mrs. George Snitselaar) of Pleasanton, California, John Jr. of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Ronald of Lakewood, California, and Erma (Mrs. Ubbe Wagenaar) of Adrian, Minnesota. He also leaves 48 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one brother, Fred of Sibley, Iowa, and one sister, Anna (Mrs. Fred Abels) of Sibley, Iowa.

Mr. Klaassen was preceded in death by his wife, one sone, Paul, his parents, six brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services for Mr. Klaassen were held on Wednesday, December 7, 1977 at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, Iowa, with Rev. Harold Kammeraad officiating.

Casket bearers were grandsons of the deceased: Dennis Sprock, David Klaassen, Myron Kinkenborg, Jim Kinkenborg, Keith Van Westen, and Jeffrey Klaassen.

Burial took place in the Pleasant View cemetery at Little Rock, Iowa, with Vogelaar-Bolin Funeral Home of George in charge of arrangements.

John H. Siebrands
1912 - 1958

John H. Siebrands was born on November 27, 1912, and died on September 8, 1958 at the age of 45 years, 9 months and 11 days.

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 12, 1958 from the Alfred Hansman home at 1:30, followed with services from the Tabernacle Baptist church in George; Rev. Harm Johnson officiated. Soloist was Mrs. Viola Rust.

LaVonne (Hansmann) Molitor
1933-2002

LaVonne Julie Mae "Toots" Molitor, 69, of Sibley, Iowa, died on Sunday July 14, 2002 at Country View Manor, Sibley.

Born May 22, 1933 in George, Iowa, she was the daughter of Alford and Alvina (Siebrands) Hansmann. She married Marvin Small on Sept. 20, 1950, in George. After a marriage of about ten years they divorced, and she moved to George.

On February 14, 1962 she married Theodore Molitor, in George; they lived near Sibley.

She grew up and attended schools in the George area. After her first marriage they farmed in the Ocheydan and May City, Iowa areas, before moving to George. For a short period of time they also resided in Excelsior. She began working at Associated Milk Producers Inc. In Sibley.

In 1974 she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.   In 1989 she became a member of Country View Manor in Sibley. She was previously a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, George, and later Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sibley.

Surviving are her husband; three sons: Dale Small. San Francisco, Calif., Duane Small, Riverside, Calif., and David Small, Austin, Texas; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and four step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Marlyn.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sibley, with Rev. William Flemr officiating. Burial will be in Holman Township Cemetery, Sibley. Walton-Roste Funeral Home, Sibley, is in charge of arrangements.

Laurence Richard "Loren" Siebrands
1924-2003

Laurence Richard "Loren" Siebrands was born March 12, 1924 at George, Iowa, the son of Dick and Trena (Goldhorn) Siebrands. He attended country school in Liberal township. After his education he started farming with his brother, Richard on the Siebrands family farm, which was a century farm northwest of George. Loren and his brother were always working together. He was kind hearted and always willing to help others. Loren had a great memory and could always remember family history and dates.

About ten years ago Loren retired from farming. He was in and out of the George Good Samaritan Center with a couple of health issues and became a resident in October of 2001. This past Tuesday, February 4, 2003, before noon, he died at the Good Samaritan Center, at the age of 78.

He is survived by his sisters, Margaret Krull of Beaver Creek, Minn., Leota (Jack) Gerken of George, and LaVonne (Alfred) Klaassen of Ellsworth, Minn.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Elvina Siebrands, two brothers, Ben and Richard Siebrands, a sister-in-law, Irene Siebrands, a brother-in-law, Henry Krull, two nephews, James Gerken and Murnice Popkes, and a great nephew, Merlyn Popkes.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 8, 2003 at Hope Reformed Church in George, Iowa. Interment was in Hope Reformed Cemetery, George, Iowa.

Casket Bearers included Mary Gerken, Robert Krull, Paul Siebrands, Charles Gerken, Darwin Gerken, Jody Klaassen, and Eldon Sneller. Honorary bearers were John Gerken, Aldon Klaassen and Dick Siebrands.

Arrangements were by Roste Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Lu Siebrands

Lu (Mrs. Herman "Ham") Siebrands, 77, died recently in her home in Phoenix, Arizona, after a long illness. Services and interment were held Wednesday in Phoenix.

Survivors include one son, Fred Pitsenberg; his wife, Dee; a grandson, Dan, and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ben (Caroline) Dreesen, Little Rock, and Mrs. Pete (Elayne) Siebrands, Doon. Ham and Lu owned the Snack Shop in Rock Rapids in the 1960's

Mae (Siebrands)(Kruse) Folkema
1923-2002

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Hope Reformed Church of rural George, Iowa, for Mae Kruse Folkema, 78, of Sand Lake Michigan, and formerly of George, Iowa. Pastor David Vander Laan and Pastor Al Honken officiated. Serving as casket bearers were: Rodney Krull, Kenneth Krull, Robert Krull, Alan Hilbrands, Darrin Popkes and Keith Hansmann. Burial was in the Hope Reformed Cemetery of rural George.

Mae Folkema was born on June 22, 1923 at George, Iowa, the daughter of William and Minnie (Goldhorn) Siebrands. She graduated from the George High School and the Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

She married Henry E. Kruse on August 29, 1945 at Hope Reformed Church parsonage of George, Iowa. They farmed west of George. Mae was a school teacher for 40 years -- first 14 years in country school and the remaining 26 years in the George Elementary School. She had many fond memories of those years, and was loved by her students. While living in the George area, Mae was a faithful and active member of Hope Reformed Church.

Henry died in January of 1991. One August 7, 1993 Mae was married to John Folkema in Grant, Michigan. After she moved to Michigan she remained in close contact with her family and friends, visiting them as often as she could. She became very involved in Grant Christian Reformed Church. She was a member of Dorcas Society and helped cordinate the church centennial celebration. Mae loved the Lord and her prayer was that all those she loved would share in that same love.

Mae died on Friday, March 22, 2002 at the Spectrum Health-Blodgett Campus in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the age of 78.

She was survived by her husband John of Sand Lake, Michigan; two nephews, Dwayne Siebrands of Sheldon, Iowa, and Alan and Beth Siebrands of Good Thunder, Minnesota. and their children: Eric, Dave, and Mike Siebrands and Meghan and Michael Johns; step children Bob and Joanie Folkema of Jenison, Michigan; Bev and Jim Felkey of Wyoming, Michigan; Fred and Faye Folkema of Sand Lake, Michigan; Tim and Sherry Folkema of Casnovia, Michigan; Dan and Sharon Folkema of Fremont, Michigan; Jane and Doug Walstra of Grover City, Ohio; 17 step grandchildren; and four sisters-in-law, Georgia Siebrands; Donna Kruse, Margaret Kruse and Arlys Kruse.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Henry and one brother, Peter Siebrands.

Bolin Funeral Service, George, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret (Klaassen) Block
1903-1992

Mrs. Margaret (Maggie) Block was born on August 17, 1903, at rural George, Iowa, the daughter of Klaas A. and Lena (Hassebroek) Klaassen. She grew up in the George area and on March 29, 1923, she married Henry Block of Little Rock. They farmed south then, later north of Little Rock, retiring to town in 1964.

Henry died in 1969. She was an active member of Salem Reformed Church, and also in Senior Citizens.

She died on Thursday, September 17, 1992, at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley at the age of 89 years, 1 month. She is survived by four children: a daughter, Darlene and husband Arthur Heidebrink of Rushmore, Minnesota; three sons: Clarence and wife Eileen Block of Little Rock, Iowa; Clifford and wife Jo Ann Block of Little Rock, Iowa; Virgil and wife Betty Block of Adrian, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one sister Etta and husband Herman Buss of Little Rock; 4 sisters-in-law: Mrs. Elma Klaassen of Little Rock; Mrs. Mary Block of Little Rock; Mrs. Maggie Hinrichs of Sibley, Iowa; and Mrs. Mary Agnes Steussy of Fort Dodge, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers; infant John; Andrew; and Fred, and two sisters, Edith and Lena.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 21, 1992 at Salem Reformed Church of Little Rock, Iowa. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Little Rock.

Marlyn Hansmann
1930-1984

Marlyn Hansmann was born on Nov. 25, 1930 at George, Iowa, the son of Alfred and ELvina (Siebrands) Hansmann. He lived his youth and attended country school near George. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954.

He married Joan Schoonhoven on Feb. 14, 1956. They farmed near George. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He passed away at the Sibley Hospital on Sept. 15, 1984 at the age of 53 years, 10 months and 21 days.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Joan; four children: Darvin and Karol Hansmann of Grand Island, Nebraska; Maria (Mrs. Randy Van Briesen) of George, Iowa; Debra (Mrs. Phillip Allen) of Riverside, Iowa; and Mark Hansmann of George, Iowa,; 3 grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hansmann of George, Iowa; one sister, LaVonne (Mrs. Ted Molitor) of Sibley, Iowa.

Melanie Ann Klinkenborg
1971-1990

Melanie Ann Klinkenborg was born on April 30, 1971 at Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Myron and Mary (Houwen) Klinkenborg. She grew up near Rfxock Rapids and graduated from Central Lyon High School in 1989. During her years at Central Lyon she was active in band, playing the trumpet in both the senior high band and swing band. She was also a cheer leader, member of the Pep Club and class play. Her memberships also included the RCYF and Girl's League of the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids.

After graduating from High School, Melanie attended South Dakota State University and had just completed her freshman year. During this summer she was employed at Minerva's in the Park Ridge Mall in Sioux Falls.

She died on June 27, 1990 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, from injuries received in an automobile accident near Harrisburg, South Dakota. At the time of her death she was nineteen years old.

Surviving are her parents, Myron and Mary Klinkenborg of Rock Rapids, along with two brothers, Monte and Michael, and a sister, Marne -- all at home. Also surviving are her grandparents, Everon and Esther Klinkenborg of Rock Rapids, Henry and Dorothy Houwen of Ocheyedan, and a great-grandmother Helen Johnson of Sibley; also a very special friend, Vince Graves of Harrisburg, South Dakota.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 30, 1990 at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa. The officiating pastor was Rev. William DeYoung.

Casket bearers were Vern Bosma, Gary Vander Pol, Jerry Klinkenborg, Harry Houwen, Tom Klinkenborg, and Merle Klinkenborg. Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery, Rock Rapids, Iowa. Roste Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Merlyn Dean Popkes
1964-1984

Merlyn Dean Popkes was born on November 22, 1964 at Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of Murnice and Donna (Krull) Popkes. He lived his life in the Ellsworth and Little Rock area, attending the Little Rock High School and graduating in 1983. He had attended NITC in Sheldon, Iowa

He died do to an accident on May 23, 1984 at the age of 19 years,6 months and 2 days.

He is survived by his parents, Murnice and Donna of Ellsworth; by two brothers, Darrin and Gaylon; by three sisters: Wendy, Dorene and Dawn, all at home; and by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Menno Popkes of George, Mrs. and Mrs. Henry Krull of Beaver Creek, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held on May 26, 1984 from Hope Reformed Church in rural George, Iowa, Pastor Gerald DeLoof and Pastor Brian Hellenga officiating. Interment was in the Hope Reformed Cemetery.

Minnie (Jansen) Goldhorn
1901-1997

Minnie Goldhorn was born on December 21, 1901 at rural George, Iowa. She was the daughter of Hiram and Hattie (Heidebrink) Jansen.

She married Harm Goldhorn on Feb. 14, 1924, and they farmed near George until they retired to town. She was a member of the Hope Reformed Church, and the Priscilla Circle. For the past year she was a resident of the George Good Samaritan Center, where she died on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997, at the age of 95 years, two months and six days.

She is survived by two daughters, Darlene and husband Ira Kruger of George, Iowa; and Dolores and husband Floris Van Tilburg of George. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Grace Snuttjer of George.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers (one as an infant); three sisters; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held on March 3, 1997 at Hope Reformed church, rural George, Iowa. Interment was in the Hope Reformed Cemetery. The Bolin Funeral Service, George, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
