The Family of James Edgar Cunningham
Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Cunningham came from Thompson, Iowa in 1917 to live in Lester. Mr. Cunningham was transferred from the Thompson Atlas Elevator to be the manager of the Atlas Elevator in Lester. They came to Lester with five children, Leota, Gertrude, James, Gladyce and Floyd. A son Charles died in infancy. Frances the youngest, was born in Lester.
Mr. Cunningham suffered for many years from asthma. Because of ill health he retired from the elevator. The family lived on a farm in Waterbury, Nebraska and Clear Lake, Iowa for a while before moving back to Lester. For several years, Mr. Cunningham was the town clerk and the Secretary of the School Board.
Mr. Cunningham was a talented violin player. He played for many dances while he lived in Thompson, Iowa and in the old opera house in Lester. He entered Fiddlers Contests all over the country.
James Edgar Cunningham died September 23, 1944 at the age of 62 years. Mrs. Cunningham died September 25, 1974 at the age of 87.
