August Maurer’s Annual Event Very Successful the Whole Offering

Selling at Good Figures

August Maurer’s Annual Bred Sow sale held last Thursday, was one of the best he has had in late years, drawing a large crowd of ready bidders, who seemed anxious to buy those big handsome animals, which averaged over 300 pounds. Col. Duncan remarked that they were the biggest gilts he had sold in any of the 25 previous sales.

The high gilt sold for $192.50; the lowest price was $40, and the average price $63.

Mr. Maurer was well pleased with his sale. He has recently purchased one of the best sows ever owned in this state. She is the Junior Champion of the world and is bred to the best boar of this breed. Following is the list of purchasers.

Interesting School News

The report cards were received last Wednesday.

Lois Priester was absent from school Tuesday.

The Tenth and Eleventh grades have received their new Histories.

A number of books were received Friday for the traveling library.

A number of new books have been received for the Lester school library.

The Camp Fire girls held their weekly meeting at the Koch residence.

The Physics class started the second semester by studying magnetism.

The bake sale held by the Camp Fire girls last Saturday, was much of a success.

Rose Maurer, who was absent from school last week because of illness, returned Monday.

The school had a fire drill Tuesday afternoon, the school house was vacated in less than a minute.

The Ninth and Tenth grades are studying physiology for this last semester, instead of occupation.

The American Literature class is studying Whittier, each member is requested to learn one of his poems.

The characters have been assigned for the operetta, and the books were given out Monday evening. The first practice will be held Thursday evening.

Those pupils having an average of 90 percent in all their studies and deportment did not have to take semester exams They were Alta Childress, Hugo Stuerman. Margaret Vickermann and Ruth Vasey.

Rose Maurer was absent from school last Wednesday and Thursday helping to get ready for the sale.

Herman and Martin Maurer were absent from school Wednesday and Thursday on account of the sale.

The operetta ‘‘In Old Louisiana,’’ will be given by the boys’ and girls’ glee club on Thursday, February 26.

The Camp Fire Girls held their meeting Monday evening in the Maurer home. All report an enjoyable meeting.

Mrs. Haegle Honored

At a meeting of the Logan township Farm Bureau, Mrs. H.F. Haegele was presented with a cut glass salad bowl by the ladies of this club for the splendid service she has rendered during the past year as president. The club met at the home of Mrs. Earl Fields. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Sherman Childress and Mrs. Oscar Childress.

The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Frank L. Dell February 4.
