LYON COUNTY GENEALOGY
UGLAND, EDWARD
was born November 25, 1864, at Mosby, Norway, and came to the United States in 1880. He worked as a farmhand first in Clayton County, Iowa and then in Lyon County, Iowa. After six years, Edward bought a farm west of Larchwood. On June 21, 1893, he married Jesine Tobiason, who was born October 3, 1870. She was one of the first white children born in Lyon County. Edward and Jesine were the parents of eight children-Arthur and Edith (both deceased); Nels-married to Lottie Severson, Valley Springs, S.D.; Inga (Mrs. Tobias Stensland), Larchwood; Thelma (Mrs. Adolph Severson), Harrisburg, S.D.; Jalmer (Edwin J.), Canton, S.D.; Mildred (Mrs. Bert Castle) and Theodore-who married Gertie Garvey, both of Sioux Falls, S.D. After their marriage, Edward and Jesine moved to Moody County, S.D., where they purchased a farm. After a few years the family returned to Iowa and settled on a farm in Centennial Township, where Edward lived until his death on September 30, 1930. Jesine preceded him in death on August 16, 1916.
UNDERBERG, ANDREW was born May 27, 1913, and Anna Roemen, born February 16;, 1921, were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church on May 30, 1939. Both were born and raised at Larchwood. They are the parents of five children-Janet )Mrs. George VanDenHul) and Donna (Mrs. John Fee), both of Harrisburg, S.D.; Joan (Mrs. Rollo Lottman), Joseph-married to Jacqulyn Linton and John-who married Nancy Skiles, all of Larchwood. The couple has 11 grandchildren. They are farmers and live west of town.
UNDERBERG, FRANK was the son of the John Underbergs of Mt. Carmel, Ia., one of fourteen children. He was born March 13, 1877. As a young man he came to Lyon County, and in 1901 he was united in marriage to Agnes Snyders, who was born February 23, 1880, in Holland, the daughter of John and Anna Snyders. The couple had ten children-Clara (Mrs. Phillip Caine), John-who married Laura Burhenn, and after her death married Beatta Eneboe; Henry-who married Frances Schulte, Peter-married to Susan Schington, Loretta (Mrs. Mike Schave), and Matthew-who married Alma Warburg, all of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Theodore-married to Felicitas (Sid) Perkinson, and Andrew-who married Anna Roemen, both of Larchwood; Collette (Mrs. Joe Rosener), Vail, Ia.; and Agnes (Mrs. George Bell), Rockford, Ill. They farmed in the Larchwood and Gary, S.D., vicinity for many years. Retiring in the spring of 1936, the Underbergs moved into Larchwood. Agnes passed away June 10, 1941 and Frank died in February 1951.
