Land Description On June 7, 1858, there was filed in Town Lot Deed Record A, at page 610, a plat signed and acknowledged by Joshua Landers and his wife, Elizabeth Landers, on June 7, 1858. They acknowledged that they caused the survey of land described below to be made, to be known as Pleasant Grove Burying Ground to be used for burial purposes only, and sold and donated in lots as designated on the plat. Pleasant Grove Burying Ground is located on the Southwest Quarter of the Northwest Quarter of the Southwest Quarter of Section 35, Township 76 North, Range 12 West of the 5th P.M. There are limestone rock planted at A. B. C. D. and E, at E being 9 rods and 5 links north and 28˝ links east of the southwest corner of the above described lot. The size of the lots east and west are 18 feet by 24 feet north and south. Width of roads are 20 feet. Width of walks are 9 links = 6 feet. There are 18 blocks and 8 lots in each block. There are 12 out lots the same size as the lots in blocks. Surveyed May 27 and 28, 1858, by Joel Crossman, County Surveyor, Keokuk County, Iowa. Plat is set out below: Note: The headstones in Lander's Addition to Pleasant Grove Cemetery were read by blocks. There was not a very clear lot demarcation in this oldest section of the cemetery and headstones, footstones, and family monuments were not always in best alignment to differentiate between lots. V in the margin before a name designates a veteran. M in the margin before a name designates that there is no stone at the grave, but a funeral home metal marker marks the grave site. No attempt was made to estimate the number of vacant spaces in the rows between the headstones read. Those spaces may represent unused burial plots or burials without headstones. Block 1 Wm.
