The first school teacher was Michael Cline, he died in Washington County.
The
first school was on Picayune Creek, in a cooper shop. The township
election was first held in this building. The first school house was
built on Jacob Oberholtzer’s land, on what is called “Hog Back Ridge.”
It got this name from ‘Squire Figg, who was mad at the people on that
side because they kept a bad lot of hogs.
