The
first school was taught by
Daniel F. McCune, in a log school house on Section 3, near A. C.
Sutliff’s place, on a line between Sections 3 and 10. The house was
built by the neighbors clubbing together, in the winter of 1844-5. It
was of hewed logs; had slab benches, and a big open fireplace. Mr.
McCune had sixteen or eighteen scholars, and received $10 per month. He
died in Solon.
