Important resources local to the area in which you live should not be overlooked. These include your Local Public Library (*a must*); local LDS Family History Center, to order and view Iowa County microfilm and publications; and if you are in the mid or eastern Iowa area, a visit to the State Historical Society of Iowa Libraries is a must.
Genealogy and Newspaper Search Tools
Many libraries offer their patrons free wonderful genealogy and newspaper databases these days! Many of these resources can be accessed from your home if you have a library card. Visit your local library's website or ask the reference desk in person to learn what your library has to offer. Here's a sample of resources your library may offer:

Interlibrary Book Loan
Iowa County history books and other publications can be ordered via interlibrary Loan through your public library. Your local library or the lending library may charge a small fee for this service, but often they do not. If you find a reference to a book pertaining to Iowa County genealogy or history that you are interested in, see if you can loan it through this service.
Interlibrary Microfilm Loan
Microfilm can be borrowed from the State Historical Society of Iowa (SHSI). Often your local public library can receive microfilm, especially if they have a film reader on the premises. If not, it may be possible to order the film through your local Family History Center. The SHSI charges a fee. The fees vary depending on the type of film, but generally start at $6.00.

You are sure to find a Latter-day Saints Family History Center (FHC) near you. These centers are open free to the public, and the friendly volunteers there will be happy to help you find or order the material you want.

The LDS Family Search website has the Family History Library Catalog online. Search Place for "iowa, iowa" to find sources related to Iowa County, Iowa. Also search Place for just "iowa" to find state-wide resources that include Iowa County such as state censuses (1856, 1885, 1925, etc.)
