For those interested in history, the Amana Colonies, agriculture, antiques and Iowa County's pioneer heritage, visit the museums below, many of which are owned and operated by the Amana Heritage Society.)
Amana Heritage Museum, Amana
Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m.
Sunday, April 1 through Oct. 31. The museum is also open Saturdays year around.

Community Church Museum, Homestead
Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday,
May 1 through Oct. 31.
Attractions:
- Built in 1865 and little changed since then
- Guides will interpret the Amana religion, the history of the church and the
role of the church today.

Communal Agriculture Exhibit, South Amana
Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday,
May 1 through Sept. 30.
Attractions:
- Housed inan old Amana barn, the museum features a number of agricultural implements
from the Amana communal era including tillage equipment and harness-making and
balcksmithing tools. Also on display is a German-made 1847 fire wagon with the
hoses still intact.
- Guides are available.

Communal Kitchen and Coopershop Museum, Middle Amana
Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday,
May 1 through Oct. 31.
Attractions:
- The last remaining communal kitchen in the Amana Colonies retains many of
its original implements.
- Guides are available to direct tours and explain how the kitchen was used
during the Amana communal era.
- The Coopershop Museum is included in the tour and was used in communal days
for barrel making.

Homestead Store Museum, Homestead
Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday,
May 1 through Oct. 31.
Attractions:
- Exhibits in the former general store feature the stor's role in communal Amana,
the architecture of the seven villages and communal-era crafts.

- The gallery features an array of handmade arts and crafts traditional to the

Industrial Machine Shop Museum, Amana
Hours: Open year-round; admission free.

Attractions:
- Machinists and blacksmiths in this shop kept the Amana Woolen Mill and other
coloney industries running smoothly.
- Various tools are displayed, some dating to 1860.

Opa's Tractor Barn Museum, West Amana
Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, May through September.
Attractions:
- This restored 1883 horse barn features handpegged chestnut beams and other
architectural details.
- Houses a collection of Minneapolis-Moline tractors and implements, ag history
memorabilia, handcarved, automated barnyard in miniature and more.
