Iowa County Cemetery Stones and History 1844-1975 (manuscript) by Pauline Lillie

                    IOWA COUNTY HOME cemetery                         p.1
                                   by Pauline Lillie -History

Location
Section 6, Township Troy 79, Range 10, southwest of the corner;
South Side of Hy. 80 Interchange (Marengo- North English). West of
town of Williamsburg.

History
With the location of the County Home on a permanent site, it was
necessary to establish a cemetery. The history of the County Home
is given on page 262 Iowa County History Vol. I, 1915; First build-
ing 1867 - second addition 1878 and again 1911- no mention of a cem-
etery.

Some markers are of the temporary kind, which lists name and date;
Unable to read, as they have been there so long- probably some are
already gone of an early date; Most of the ones that are readable
occured after 1900. John and Dora Kenke, died in 1891, they have
names on one stone, which can be seen from the highway, outside the
evergreen trees.

County Home Records, are kept, and date of death, but does not ment-
ion where they are buried. So I have no idea who or when they occurred
before time of those given.

Copied first time October 6, 1962 and checked again in 1971

Condition
Taken care of by Iowa County Home employees.
