Douglas Township is one of the earliest settled parts in Ida County. Before 1868 a settlement began in the northwest corner. The first dwelling was built in 1869 by John Kingen in Section 2. In 1868 the first school was built in Section 18. In 1892 $70 was paid for 2 acres of land in Section 14 to be used as a cemetery. The first burial was January 1893. This cemetery was called Fairview Cemetery and today only three stones remain and the land is mostly prairie grass.
