1 – Harry Jensen, Ida Grove grocer, makes assignment to his creditors.
A. H. Snyder arrives from Atlantic, Iowa, to open a hamburger shop in Ida Grove.
Karl and Roy Hoffman win several prizes at the state corn show at Ames.
3 – Paul Lamphere, “cat” burgler given 20 years sentence at Sioux City.
4 – Thieves break into Crawford Brothers store at Battle Creek.
5 – Mr. and Mrs. P. K. Taylor celebrate their 67th wedding anniversary with company of sixty relatives present.
6 – Rain and ice storm the most destructive to wire service in Ida County for 10 years.
William Auchstetter and Russell Hoaglund fined $25 for firing on truck.
7 – Ida Grove defeat Mapleton boys in basketball 53 to 19.

21 – Sudden death of Theodore M. Jensen at his home in Ida Grove – was 67 years old.

25 – Holstein wins county boys championship and Battle Creek for the girls in the county basketball tourney at Holstein.  Republican county convention passes resolution for Lowden and names a delegation for him, to the state convention.
27 – W. W. Boslaugh opens his barber shop in his new building.
28 – Alvern Tjossem of Paullina and Miss Jessie Crosbie of Ida Grove are united in marriage.
The funny farce “Aunt Lucia” is presented at the H. S. auditorium under auspices of the American Legion.
29 – Frank Payne, an old time resident, buried in Ida Grove.  Had reached age of 68 years. 
James Crawford of Battle Creek celebrates his 74th birthday on leap year.
In county declamatory contest in Ida Grove, Battle Creek took first in all three classes.

MARCH
3 – B. E. Eastman disposes of interests in The Baxter to Winn W. Trousdale of Bedford, Iowa.
Viola Bjorholm of Maple No.8 receives highest grade in the county eighth grade examinations.
Ida Grove boys lose to Holstein in third and final round of sectional tourney at Mapleton.
4 – Death of Amanda Kuhrts of Holstein from the effects of a small pimple, from which blood poison developed.
5 – Seven persons at Holstein made sick with trichinosis, caused by eating diseased pork.
6 – Night Watch C. W.Rogge is locked in cell at city prison by two robbers whom he intercepted at the railway depot.
Florence Lamp and Albert F. Kastner of Holstein married at Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.
Ida Grove schools dismissed on account of heavy amount of illness, there being 111 pupils absent the previous day.
9 – Death of George Smith, Battle Creek’s surviving war veteran.
10 – Ida Grove girls win the sectional tournament at Correctionville, defeating in succession, Smithland, Climbing Hill and Battle Creek.
Clarence Charles fell under wheels of train near Battle Creek, receiving injuries from which he died the second day thereafter.
Death of Mrs. J. D. Cornish of near Arthur, from effect of auto accident, 3 days earlier.
12 – Death of Mrs. Addie Gleason, formerly of Arthur, at Sioux City, following an operation.
Dr. R. B. Armstrong re-elected to school board in Ida Grove.
Mrs. David Reid appears in an old time dance on her 96th birthday.
15 – Thomas McLeod and George H. Clark file for mayor, in city election.
16 – Meeting held in Ida Grove in the interests of the new Farmers Co-operative Popcorn association.
17 – Edward A. Hansen of Holstein confirmed as postmaster for four year term.
Ida Grove girls win district basketball tournament in Ida Grove, defeating Sac City in finals 30 to 27.
19 – Contractor Condon recommences road grading operations on the Ida Grove – Schleswig highway.
22 – Death of Kenneth Stough at the age of 16 years.
George B. Whealen, pioneer banker of Galva locality, died at the age of 82 years.
24 – Ida Grove girls win state basketball championship, defeating Audubon, Pleasant Plain and Wellsburg to claim the honor.  Wellsburg was second.
26 – Thomas McLeod elected mayor of Ida Grove, after a hot campaign.
Mrs. C. A. Blake elected chairman and Mrs. E. S. Parker, secretary of the Ida Grove Library Association.
29 – Edmund Anderson of Battle Creek takes first in pre-district oratorical contest at Correctionville.
30 – Death of Peter Lamp, prominent banker and real estate man of northwest Iowa, at a Sioux City hospital.
L. McDonald of Cherokee announces his candidacy for the state senate.

APRIL
1 – Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Gronau of Kiron celebrate golden wedding.
2 – Mayor McLeod take his office in Ida Grove and other councilmen qualify.
Mrs. Mary Rebecca Wheatley, almost 84 years old, dies at Holstein from the effects of a fall in which her hip was broken.
Harry Conard, mail carrier, gets an extension, granting him two more years of service as mail carrier.
4 – American Legion post secures the Baxter bank clock, to be donated to the city as a town clock
Coach William Layland, starts spring football practice at Ida Grove high school
6 – Death of Mrs. Charles Johnson after a few days illness with pneumonia.
Big snowfall in Ida County, blocking most all highways, even the primary roads where the big snow shovel was used.
7 – Ida Grove wins in band, orchestra and glee club at music contests held here.
C. W. Sankey re-elected school superintendent for three years.
August Lohafer, 71, dies at Holstein from pneumonia.
8 – Miss Carroll Taylor, Ida Grove teacher, and Arch F. Simonson of St. Paul are married at Sioux City.
10 – Sudden death of Fred Brodersen of Battle Creek.
11 – Mrs. I. N. Shearer stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage.
12 – Ray Latham former head of the Ida Grove schools, is selected president of Iowa State Teachers College, to succeed Dr. Homer Seerley.
Severe snow storms endanger condition of early oats in northwest Iowa.
13 – Death of David Reid of Ida Grove in his 87th year from pneumonia.
16 – Judge Hutchison opens April term of court.
17 – Helen Babcock, thirteen year old Galva school girl, wins county spelling championship, on the word “gossamer.”
18 – Government takes a long time lease on the Noah Williams building on Second street, Ida Grove, for postoffice purposes.
Death of Mrs. Homer Burton of Battle Creek, at the age of 32.
23 – Fire destroys the grain elevator at Kiron.
Ida Grove Ice & Fuel Company changes its motive power from steam to electricity.
Andrew Miller, aged 82, dies at the home of his son, Aaron, in Grant Township.
24 – John Bower, former prominent resident of Douglas Township drops dead on highway east of Correctionville.
27 – Ida County Health association votes $200 toward support of trained overseer of the poor.
Jurors appraise lands for new primary highway southwest of Battle Creek.
28 – Death of Mrs. Barbara Breckwald, in Ida Grove, in her ninetieth year.

MAY
1 – Death of August Briese Sr., of Holstein at the age of 84.
Miss Hazel Osteen and Charles Henry Pratt of Miles City, Montana, married at the home of the bride’s father in Ida Grove.
Iowa Public Service Company junks the 90 hp. M. generator, preparatory to moving 300 h. p. generator here from LeMars.
Miss Sarah Alien White selected as representative from 11th district at the Drake University spring festival.
Opening of Mary Elizabeth Shoppe in Ida Grove.
2 – Severe windstorm blows machine shed to pieces on the Arch Mein farm southeast of Ida Grove.
3 – James W. Satterlee and Miss Eva Mildred Shaver married at Mapleton.
4 – Death of Barney Hester, pioneer harness dealer of Ida Grove, at the age of 74 years.
5 – Ida Grove high school band wins championship of state in class B the third victory in last four years.  The Orchestra was awarded third place.
7 – Ida Grove city council by a vote of 3 to 2 legalizes Sunday movies.
8 – C. C. Crawford elected president of Ida Grove Commercial club, succeeding T. S. Snell Jr.
9 – Death of Mrs. Honor Conard, deputy county auditor, after an acute illness of a month.  She was 39 years old.
11 – The schools of Ida Grove present May festival on court house lawn, Miss Bernice Hammerstrom of the senior class being crowned May queen.
Barney Ward has his first ride in an airplane near Denison.
Julius Rohwer re-elected president of the Grocers Wholesale Association.
14 – Death of Mrs. C. A. Britch at her home in Hollywood, Calif. – she was 62 years of age.
15 – Iowa Supreme Court upholds the conviction of George E. Hart for robbery at Battle Creek in September 1925.
American Legion and Auxiliary of 11th district hold their spring conference in Ida Grove with many visitors present.
16 – Marriage of Henry Christians and Miss Mary Meijerink, at Secred Heart Church, Ida Grove
18 – In his first home bout, Frank Weddell, Ida Grove’s heavy weight boxer secures a knockout over Norman Oxendale of Odebolt.

Joseph R. Yousling dies in Los Angeles at the age of 67 years.
27 – Baccalaureate service at the auditorium ushers in high school commencement week.

29 – A. R. Breihan moves his harness shop from south of the postoffice to old Barney Hester location.

1 – Herbert Stimbert leases Sacquety garage for Buick agency.
2 – Death of Jackson Blizard at home in Cedar Rapids at the age of 63.
Opening of Ida Grove’s new gold club house.
5 -  Shorty Hart taken to Ft. Madison to commence the serving of his 10 year prison term.
Primaries in Ida County. Aiken nominated for representative, Dahlquist for sheriff and Clark for County Attorney against opposition.
6 – John Andrew Soellner dies at Galva, aged 71.
7 – Mr. and Mrs. James Nicol celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in Ida Grove.
Lightning strikes John Willcutt home southeast of Ida Grove during storm.
9 – Arvilla Clark and Clyde W. Urban of Silver Creek married by Rev. J. J. Davies.
11 – Death of Ruth Cheney Lange, former Ida Grove girl, at Sioux City, at the age of 34.
12 – Annual banquet of the Alumni Association of Ida Grove high school.
13 – Rev. W. H. McEwen of Battle Creek, expires at the dinner table.  He was born in Canada a little over 60 years ago.
14 – Mrs. David Reid, Ida Grove’s oldest citizen, dies in the 97th year of her age.
15 – Paul Noble, editor of the Newell Mirror, a former Ida Grove boy, married at Little Brown Church to Miss Dorothy Morrison of Lone Tree.

1 – Death of Mrs. Mac Bigelow at Battle Creek.
3 – Ida Grove wins largest share of prize money at the Maple Valley firemen’s tourney at Battle Creek.
Darrell Sellman of Battle Creek, member of the navy, dies in China.
4 – Crowd at big Fourth of July celebration in Battle Creek estimated at more than 15,000.
7 – Death of Owen Henry Lloyd near Battle Creek at the age of 64.
Ed H. Campbell nominated for Congress by Republicans of Eleventh district, on the 96th ballot.  Convention held at Spencer and lasted two days.
9 – Severe hailstorm passes across southern end of the country, in vicinity of the Soldier River.
Protest meeting in Ida Grove over abolition of free telephone service.
10 – Seventeen year old G. Collison of Marshalltown wins the three days Midwest golf tournament in Ida Grove, from field of over 100 contestants.

23 – Death of A. M.  Crawford, beloved Ida County citizen at the age of 64 years.
Dale Goldie’s Marmon car wrecked at Lipton crossing.

H. W. Hartman of Battle Creek killed in automobile accident near Canton, S. D.
30 – Gemmill & Smith open at battery shop in Stimbert building.

AUGUST
1 – M. C. Pruyn family moves from Ida Grove to Sioux City.
2 – Dr. J. A. Nye purchases the M. C. Pruyn property in Ida Grove.
7 – Death of Leslie Kallmer at Ida Grove.
Father Costello’s 25th year of ministry in Ida Grove celebrated.
8 – Miss Rosamond Kiernan of Ida Grove and Glenn B. Sachse of Chicago married at Sacred Heart Church.
10 – 4-H Club achievement day observed in Ida Grove.  Irene Schuett of Holstein adjudged healthiest girl and Vierl Johnson, the healthiest boy.
83 rural pupils graduate from Ida Grove county schools and hold picnic in Ida Grove.
C. A. Metcalf elected coach to succeed W. L. Layland, resigned.
11 – Moore & Eldridge of Clemens, Iowa secure contract for graveling the Schleswig – Ida Grove road at $11,911.
12 – Members of the officers of the ambulance company leave for two weeks camp at Camp Dodge.
14 – Mrs. A. W. Burg of Lake View has eye torn out in auto accident northwest of Ida Grove.

22 – John R. Barrett’s Cadillac car is smashed by interurban car near Elyria, Ohio, but occupants escape injury.

2 – Miss Ruth Skogland returns home from eight months stay in England and other foreign countries.
3 – City school reopen with increase of 21 in enrollment over same time last year.  Coach Metcalf starts football practice.
First Trust & Savings Bank observes the 25th anniversary of founding by a picnic.
4 – Four year old Elaine Larsen of Hayes Township has her right hand cut off at the wrist in auto accident near Kiron.
Thomas R. Bunt sells his store to M. M. Hileman of Hot Springs, S. D.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Lipton leave on overland auto trip to California.
5 – John F. Bauer dies at Holstein at the age of 71 years.
6 – Storm Lake defeats Ida Grove in golf 39 – 26 and takes little brown jug.

19 – Frank Hess dies suddenly at home of his daughter, Mrs. E. S. Heilman – was in his 78th year.
20 – D. E. Shorrett opens a cream buying station in Ida Grove for Swift & Co.
A. W. Cameron resigns as manager of Hanford Produce Co., effective October first.
21 – Annual fair at Hayes Center is believed to have broken all records for size and attendance
23 – Two year old Helen Whyte of Holstein drowns in stock tank on the Charles Heilman farm.
24 – Henry Barthel buys the Putzier building, formerly occupied by the Rohwer store.
25 – Frank Weddell knocks out Cyclone Miller of Charter Oak in fourth round.
Ida Grove defeats Odebolt in football, 33 to 0.
Iowa Public Service Co. completes $20,000 worth of improvements at local sub-station.
26 – Death of Mrs. Jane Rose, formerly of Battle Creek, at the age of 99 years and 9 months. 
Mrs. Kate Wilcox married to L. M. Naylor in Connecticut.
27 – Mrs. R. E. Lipton wins women golf honors in Ida Grove club.
29 – Ida Grove sustains first football defeat in nearly three years, losing at Sac City 9 to 0.
30 – Rev. J. J. Davies preaches farewell sermon in Ida Grove, after 8 years pastorate.

OCTOBER
2 – Peter Adams of Holstein dies at the Battle Creek hospital.
Ida Grove Womans Club entertains city teachers.
3 – District meeting of telephone officials in Ida Grove.
4 – F. L. McKays Poland China sale held in Ida Grove.
5 – Ida County supervisors pass resolution that henceforth all orders for poor relief must be O K’d by the township trustees.
Secretary Manton of the Cherokee Chamber Commerce delivered valuable address before Ida Grove Commercial Club. Rev. Davies, retiring secretary, presented with $20 in gold.
Charles P. Denison, county clerk, successfully passes state bar exams.
6 – Ida Grove wins football game from Cherokee on own field 14 to 0.
7 – Rev. George W. Dunn assigned to Ida Grove Methodist Church and preaches his first sermon.
Frank W. Murphy of Minnesota, chairman of the Corn Belt Legislative Committee, addresses large political gathering in Ida Grove.
