Peter Dibbern Family
Late in 1885 Peter Dibbern came to Galva,Iowa from
Dethmarchen, Germany. He bought a section of land from the railroad two -one half miles
southwest of Galva and cleared it off. He married Pauline Staben of Hamburg Germany in
1886.
They had eight children. Bertha, born in 1888,married
Cal Lovelace and died in 1982. Alma, born in 1889,married Henry Suiter and died in 1988.
Eva, born in 1891married Richard Younie and died in 1975. Meta(Mattie), born in 1892 and
died in 1916 at home after a short illness.Walter, born in 1894 and died in 1918 at Camp
Gordon,Ga. Olga, born in 1895, married Carman Bossard
and died in 1989.Otto(Dick), born on 1897 and died in 1973. Hilda, born in 1898, married
George Gale and died in 1980.
Hilda and Olga went to Galva High School in the old
school in town. All of the children walked to a country grade school one-half mile east of
their farm home. Peter Dibbern was born in
Dethmarchen, Germany May 7,1852 and died at his home in Galva on September 5, 1915.
Pauline (Staben) Dibbern was born in Hamburg, Germany March 27, 1863 and died in Cherokee,
Iowa on July 15,1936. They are both burried in the Galva Township Cemetary,west of Galva.

Henry Peter Bubke
Henry Peter Bubke was born in Ida County, Iowa in 1881 and died in 1964 in Bremerton, WA. He was the son of John (Johann) Frederick Bubke (1847-1926), and Theresa Schaefer (1856-1926). He married Margaret Jane Thompson November 28,1917 in Spokane, Washington. She was born November 21,1891 and died December 1980. She was the daughter of William Thompson and Margaret Cameron.
He was an Electrical Engieer for the Pugt Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA. They were members of the Presbyterian church.
They were the parents of three children;
1. Frederick Henry Bubke was born September 28,1918 and died September 27,1999. He was married.
2. William Bubke was born November 2,1920 and died March 3,2000. He was married.
3. Gerald Bubke was born March 11,1924 and died April 1977.

Final Rites for Mrs. Effie Burton Held March 4,196 8.
Funeral Services fo r Mrs.Effie Burton,89,a long time resident of
Battle Creek,Iowa,were conducted Monday afternoon,March 4,1968,is at Presbyterian Church
at Battle Creek with Re v. Howard Dukelow officiating. Mrs. Burton died Friday,March 1,in
St. Joseph Mercy Hospital at Sioux City. The
floral tributes were arranged by Mrs.Viola Lundt,Barbara Hartigan and Wayne Steinbeck of
Danbury.
Mrs. Alvin Iverson provided organ nusic for the service. Burial was in Mt. Hope
Cemetery inter the direction of the Christe nsen Funeral home. Pal lbears were;Richard and Wayne
Jr;Murral and Leo Buton;Walter Strong and Carl Hi nds.
Dinner was served t o the family at noon in the Burton Home by Mrs.Viola Lundt and
Mrs. Leo Dirkson of Danbury.Lunch was served to the family and friends upon their return
from t he cemetery in the fellowship hall of the church by Mrs.Raphael Swink;Mrs.Fred
Pealared,Mrs.Walter McBride and Mrs. Leo Schleimer all of Danbury and Mrs.Wende ll

Engelking and Mrs.Sturt Lee. Effie Wickey Burton was born February 14,1879 at B attle
Creek,Iowa.She was the daughter of Gustave and Louisa Wickey.Most of her life was spent in
Battle Creek area,the last 48 years being spent on the home f arm south of Battle
Creek.She Married Clinton D. Burton,February 22,1899 at Bat tle Creek,she lived a long
life of much happiness to live so many years on a be autiful farmstead in the rolling
hills of Garfield Township is Blessing in itse lf.Her thoughtfulness and
considerateness,her knack of being able to be helpful and encouraging to her neighbors,so
that she was alawys one to turn to,built h er a treasure of love.Not that it was alaways
easy.Getting out in a bob-sled to go to a neighbors to deliver a baby was not easy,but
many times she did it,alw ays gladly and cheerfully.It can truly be said that she lived a
full life.She p receded in death by an infant daughter Estella Margaret;a son Clarence,who
died July 8,1938 and a husband who died September 1,1955. The Children who survive are;
Mrs.Byron(LaVerne)Griffiths o f Eacino,Calif.;Marie,Chester and Wayne of Battle
Creek,Leter of Ida Grove and Forrest of Grand Junction,Iowa. Other survivors in clude a
sister,Lillian Johnson of Smithland,a brother Melvin Wickey of Sioux Ci ty,Ia.;16
grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The following Poem was written in her honor by
he r grandson,Wayne Burton Jr.,to be used on this occasion. My Grandma To sit back and

in Battle Creek,after a lingering illness with tuberenlosis.The funeral will b e held

Burton was 32 years of age and with her husband lived on a farm near Battle Creek for sev
eral years until March 1927,when they came to Battle Creek.She is survived by h er

they moved here for Mrs. Burton's he alth was too poor to do the heavy work required of a

and a daughter Ruby at home age 12 and six brothers all of Sioux City,a sister at
Smithland an d a sister,Mrs.Clint Burton here.The remains were laid to rest at Mt.Hope

IDA GROVE,Iowa--Herbanna Lagatha Ferguson,86,died Tuesday,June 20,2000,at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove after a brief illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Frist Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek,Iowa.Burial will be in the Ida G rove Cemetery.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today,with the family present at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Battle Creek. Mrs. Ferguson was born Aug. 3,1913,near Crothersville,Ind.,the daughter of Herb ert Edgar and Eulalia Rutherford Abbott.They came to Ida County in 1915 and far med around Battle Creek and Cushing,Iowa.She earned her eight-grade certificate in a county school near Cushing.She married Clarence A. Burton on March 11,192 9,in Elk Point,S.D.He died in a farm accident in 1938.She married Otto H. Fergu son on Jan 12,1944.They lived on the family farm northwest of Ida Grove until h is death in January 1969.She was a member of the Frist Presbyterian Church in B attle Creek.She had work at Mid Sioux Opportunities in Cherokee and was a volun teer with the American Cancer Society.She enjiyed gardening,traveling,animals a nd playing cards.

years,retiring in 1978.He also operated a tree nursery since 195 8.Mr.Burton was a member

Bruce Burton son of Forrest and Eileen Burton of Danbury,graduated from Maple
Valley in 1965.He at tended and helped fight for the survival of Midwestern College in
Denison.Today Burton is the Superintendent of North Central Community Schools in
Manly,Iowa. He has been named "Superintendent of the Year" by the School
Administrators of Iowa in copperation with the American Association of School
Administrators. After graduating from Wayne
State College in Wayne,Nebraska,he spent nine weeks in Lslamabad,Pakistan,learning a bout
that culture and serving as a goodwill ambassador.Burton taught and coache d at a middle
school for six years in Staton,Neb.,and at another for five years in North Platte.During
that time he was also working on his Masters Degrees in Guidance Counseling at Chadron
State College and administration,Special Educat ion and Elementary principal endorsements
at the Universities of Nebraska in Li ncoln and Kearney.
Burton has been a
boon to the Manly community since arriving there in 1993.He has served on their City
Council and helped inmates pile sandbags d uring a city flood.He has been American Legion
Commander twice and President of his Lions Club. "Mr. Burton's active engagement in
the life of his church(Bethlehem Lutheran) should be noted as he and his wife have
provided invaluable leadership and service ov er their years of membership," said one
of North Central Guidance Counselors,Ke n Estes. "His warmth a nd genuine concern for
the well being of others has fostered an attitude as wel l as a very real sense of felling
of "family" at North Central," said Estes. Burton wants to give
back,because he was helped and s upported so much as a child and youth by people in
Danbury and Mapleton communi ties. "Bruce is a very stro ng leader,but he is very
student oriented.Bruce visits the classroom whenever i t's possible.The students respect
him,but they also enjoy his sence of himor.Br uce will have students come together and
sing Happy Birthday to a fellow studen t,teacher,or other staff member.He is very visible
to all students,and they kno w that he will listen to them when they have a
concern,"said NC School board Pr esident Sheryl Thompson. Burton is said to have an Open door policy for
students,encouraging them along with other members of the community to feel like they are
a vital part of the s chool organization. He has fond memories between a teacher and a
child thats what developing relati onship is all about.Burton who never gives up on
kids.I'm deeply committed to b uilding relationship with all students and their
parents...Success starts with the notion that all children can be taugh.Everyone Burton
combs through various magazines he reads to find positive stories and quotes.He compiles
the best on es into a weekly motivational column calles "Odds and Ends"that he

services for Wesley Wayne Burton,71,of Battle Creek were held Monday at the Frist
Presbyterian church in Battle Creek.He died Thursday April 2,199 2 at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove,The Rev.Benjamin
Ray officiated,with burial in Mt.Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek with Militiary
homors.Mr.Burton was born Aug. 30,1920 at Grafield Township,Ida Grove,the son of Clinton
D.and Effie ( Wickey)Burton.He attended rural school in Garfield township.after that he
served with the Marine Corps during World War II.On Sept 12,1944 in Portsmith,Va.He
married Reno Green.She died in 1986.He work as a long-haul truck driver on the east
coast.Then entered the construction work back in his birth area,prior to retirment.He was
a member of both State and Local Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion,having
servied in various offices at both levels.Survivors i nclude:two sons;Wayne of Sioux Falls
and Rodney of Chesapeake,Va.;a daughter Mr s.Gary (Sherry)Wermick of Palm Harbor,Fls.;two

Miller-Keller-Johnson, Maxine Faye Miller-Clark, Wilbur Henry Miller, Majorie Ann
Miller-Cork, Mildred Mae Miller-Schriber, Marcella Jane Miller-Moore, Lorainne Belle
