SPELLING

After four days of spelling, Frances Haskovec became the champion speller in the fifth annual contest. Not only is she the high school champion, but the best speller in the school, and she well deserves the loving cup which is given to the winner.

CAMPFIRE

Instead of having a girls' basketball team this year, the girls voted to organize a campfire group under the leadership of Mrs. Brandmill. The purposes of the organization are stated in the following seven laws: seek beauty; give service; pursue knowledge; be trustworthy; hold on to health; glorify work; be happy. The club has proved to be a very beneficial and worthy organization

REPRESENTATIVE BOY AND GIRL

chosen by

STUDENT BODY

For the second time the students of our high school selected a representative girl and a representative boy. This selection was made by ballot. A number of juniors and seniors were nominated, but the students below were finally chosen.

Ava Beth Mealy, a senior, well deserves this honor, which the students of the high school have bestowed upon her. She is both an excellent student and a good sportsman. During her four years of high school work she has shown talent in dramatics, attended the Cranium Derby at Iowa City, been editor of the TOM THUMB TIMES during her senior year, secretary of the Student Council, and served as an active member on the various committees.

Merle Schroeder, also a senior, is as much deserving of the honor as is Ava Beth Mealy. He, too, has been a good student and has been prominent in athletics. When school resumes in the fall, his absence will be greatly regretted.
