Wolfe, Doris G. nee Ellis nee Wolfe 1922 - 2002Doris Wolfe, 81 Doris Genevieve Wolfe was born on December 30, 1922, at Central Barren, Ind, She was the first born child of five births after the February 23, 1921 marriage of Rosie Anna Haub Wolfe from Palmyra, Ind. and Lewis Jacob Wolfe of Central Barren. At the age of three months, Doris was baptized at the parsonage of the Central Barren United Methodist Church. Doris was taught to play the piano by her mother and was the assistant Sunday School pianist at the Central Barren United Methodist Church. She attended the Morgan Township School and graduated in 1941. Doris stayed with people who were ill and helped on her parents’ farm. She worked as a housekeeper in Palmyra and New Albany, Ind. She worked in the Box Factory in New Albany and in the Jake Fischer Restaurant in Palmyra as a waitress and bookkeeper until she moved to Riceville. On June 17, 1953 in Bellmond, Iowa, Doris married Harold Edwin Ellis of Riceville and they lived and operated the farm there. Edwin Leland was born in 1954 and Charlotte Ann was born in 1956. In 1964, Doris and Harold sold the farm and moved to Central Barren, Ind. where Doris transferred her membership back to the Central Barren United Methodist Church from the Riceville United Methodist Church on Easter Sunday, 1968. Doris and Harold continued to farm at Central Barren and Doris helped care for her aging parents and family. Doris was recognized by the church for her mission work. Doris had been in ill health since she was 71 years of age. Doris is survived by a son, Edwin Ellis of Central Barren; a daughter, Charlotte Ellis of New Albany; two younger brothers of Central Barren, Robert and Darrell Wolfe; brother-in-laws, Raymond Ellis, of Graham, Wash; Donald Ellis of Dows, Iowa, and Luard LaVerne Ellis of Grandview, Missouri. Preceding her in death, besides her parents, was her husband, Harold; a younger sister, Carmen June Wolfe Ollis of Palmyra, Ind., and a brother-in-law, James Robert Ellis of Ellendale, Minn.
