SAUDE -- Harris Theodore Vaala was born April 9,1912, in Saude and died July 20, 2002 in Cresco.

Harries farmed near Saude with his brother Orin and sister Gladys for more than 50 years. He served with the U.S. Army during W.W.II, spending most of this time with the air corps in the Aleutian Islands. Harris also played amateur baseball for many years in and around Saude, and was a lifetime fan of the University of Iowa football and basketball teams.

Survived by: his sisters, Melba Robinson and Lillian Henry both of Cresco, two nieces, Marcia Congdon and Ann Henry, two nephews, Don Henry and Ted Henry, and numerous grand and great grand nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by : an infant sister, his father, Theodore in 1923, his mother, Hannah (Natvig) in 1962, brother Orin in 1990 and a sister Gladys in 1998.

Memorial services: Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Saude Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial in the Saude Cemetery with military honors by the Lawler American Legion Post. Rev. Kent Dethlefsen officiated. Visitation is from 4 to 7 on Tuesday at the Lindstrom F.H. in Cresco which is in charge of arrangements.
