Tilkes, Rose nee Wegner 1908 - 2002NORTH WASHINGTON - Rose Tilkes, 94, North Washington, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton after a brief illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Washington with Rev. John Hemann celebrating the mass. The funeral pall will be placed on the casket by her eight children. Lector for the service will be Brenda Tenge. Jane Karels will be the organist accompanied by the I.C. Men's Choir. The offertory gifts will be presented by granddaughters, Mickey Denner, Tammy Joebgen, Dawn Anderson and Denise Landwer. Robert and Marlys Schwickerath will serve as eucharistic ministers. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, North Washington with David Ker-kove, Mark Tilkes, Jeff Tilkes, Neal Franzen, Mike Joebgen and Tony Franzen as pallbearers. Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 a t Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton where there was a 4 p.m. Rosary, a 7 p.m. Scripture Service and a 7:30 p.m. Video Memorial Tribute. Further visitation is an hour prior to the funeral at the church. Rose was born in Chicago on March 15, 1908, the daughter of Anton and Catherine Reiss Wegner. At an early age, the Wegner family moved to the Ionia area where Rose received her education in rural country schools. On Oct. 12, 1925 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Ionia, she married Joseph Frank Tilkes. The couple farmed near North Washington. Rose loved gardening, the horses on the farm, crocheting and playing cards. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Rosary Society, North Washington. Survivors include three sons, Vincent (Geraldine) Tilkes, Golden, CO; Lavern (Connie) Tilkes, New Hampton and Greg Tilkes, Faribault, MN; five daughters, Rosella (Jack) Kerkove, North Washington, Frances Chapman, New Hampton, Jane (Gene) Lynch, Lawler, Laurine Joe) Whalen, New Hampton and Darlene (Leo) Franzen, Lawler; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great greatgrandchildren; one sister, Lena Tenge, North Washington; a half-sister, Anne Rodamaker, Iowa Falls and a sister-in-law, Margaret Wegner, New Hampton. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Joseph, in 1966; a son and daughter in infancy; three brothers, Frank, Tony and John Wegner; a sister, Regina Meirick; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Tilkes and two sons-in-law, Claude Wisher and Jack Chapman.
