Thompson, Jane M. nee Pieters 1940 - 2002NEW HAMPTON - Jane Thompson, 62, New Hampton, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002 a*t St. John's Hospital, Maplewood, MN after an eight-year battle with breast cancer. Funeral Services were 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27 at United Methodist Church, New Hampton with Reverend Catherine Luck officiating. Kim Hilgendorf was the organist and accompanied the soloist, Faye Elliott singing "You Light Up My Life", 'Wind Beneath My Wings", "In The Garden", "On Eagle's Wings" and "Old Rugged Cross". Burial was in New Hampton Cemetery with Tim Rasmussen, Donald Olson, Jordan Thompson, Travis Olson, Zachry Rasmussen, Jacob Rasmussen, John Pieters Sr., Warren Erickson and Roger Thompson Jr. as casket bearers. Mark Krinke was the honorary casket bearer. Visitation was from 4-8 .m. Saturday, Jan. 26 at onway Funeral Home, New Hampton and hour prior to services at the church. Jane Marolyn Thompson was born Jan. 8,1940 in Dubuque, the daughter of Stephen Sitman and Coral (Schwinger) Pieters. She was a 1957 graduate of East High, Waterloo. After her graduation she worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell, Waterloo and General Telephone, Marshalltown and Marshfield, WI. She was united in marriage to Gary Thompson on Jan. 11, 1958 in Waterloo. The couple operated seven restaurants in Minnesota and Iowa, the last being the Main Diner, New Hampton. Jane enjoyed volunteering at the Senior Center and was an active member of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Gary; five children, Stephanie (Mark) Krinke, Mantomedi, MN, Michelle (Tim) Rasmussen, Carver, MN, Scott (Jane) Thompson, Hewitt, WI, Sitman (Sue) Thompson, White Bear Lake, MN and Gary (Janet Kittleson) Thompson, Woodbury, MN; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Jerry and a step-brother, Warren Erickson. Preceding her in death were her parents; her stepmother, Neva Pieters and a brother, John (Jack).
