Shannon, Carol A. nee Dempsey 1960 - 2002Carol Ann (Dempsey) Shannon, 42, of Mason City died Thursday, July 18, 2002 at Muse Norris Hospice, Mason City. A funeral mass was held Monday, July 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City with Rev. Carl A. Ries, officiating. Following cremation, interment was at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Carol Ann Shannon was born April 17, 1960 at Osage, a daughter of John and Janice (Markham) Dempsey. She married Daniel A. Shannon on July 24, 1982 at Mason City. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Schools, and was a 1978 graduate of Newman High School, Mason City. She was employed at North Iowa Mercy Medical Center, Mason City, for several years, and for the past six years she worked at Forest Park Pharmacy. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City. Carol is survived by her husband, Daniel Shannon, Mason City; one daughter, Errin Shannon, Mason City; one son, Nate Shannon, Mason City; parents, John and Jan Dempsey, Osage; one brother, Mark Dempsey and wife Coni, Mason City; two sisters, Laura Medlin and husband Rick, Colorado Springs, Col., Anne Ladner and husband Chris, Little Rock, Ark.; Mother-in-law, Marilyn Shannon, Mason City; paternal grandmother, Frances Dempsey, Elma; maternal grandmother, Shirley Markham, Osage; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas James Shannon and his wife, Marian, Detroit, Mich.; Michael Shannon and wife Susan, Mason City; Stephen Shannon and wife Sheila, Mason City; Patty Theiss and husband David, Clear Lake; Matthew Shannon and wife Colleen, Oelwin; Susan Shannon Johnson and husband David, St. Paul, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Ronald Dempsey; her maternal grandfather, Glenn Markham; and her father-in-law, James T. Shannon. The family requests memorials be directed to the Carol A. Shannon Memorial Fund or North Iowa Mercy Cancer Center, Mason City.
