Price, Robert "Bob" 1902 - 2002NEW HAMPTON ~ Robert 'Bob" Price, 99, New Hampton, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002 at the New Hampton Care Center of natural causes. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 at the New Hampton Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Friends may greet the family at the New Hampton Community Center following the committal service. Robert was born Aug. 12, 1902 in rural Clark County, MO, the son of Frank and Zella (Shannon) Price. He attended country school. On April 1, 1928, he married Lola Marks in Cedar Rapids. They initially made their home in Centerville, where Bob worked at the local Chevrolet garage. Later, Bob and Lola moved to Des Moines for three years where he worked on the road selling auto parts for the Herring Whistler Company. His employer asked the couple to move to Oelwein in 1930 where they stayed for six years before moving to Sumner for a year. They moved to New Hampton where they have since resided. Bob became a partner in the Blue Line Oil Company in New Hampton, retiring in 1971 after 24 years. During the early 1960s, Bob and Lola’s four grandchildren came to live with them. Bob served on the Chickasaw County Conservation Board for 22 years and was recognized when the County Conservation Commission named a wildlife habitat northwest of New Hampton in his honor. Bob also served for many years on the New Hampton Library Board and was a 65-year member of the Shriners, receiving the Outstanding Shriner of the Year award in 1985. Survivors include his wife, Lola; one daughter, Suzanne Brownell, California; two grandsons, Jeff Johnson and Jay Johnson; two granddaughters, Joni Koons and Jennifer Bahner; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a granddaughter, Joy Johnson; one brother; three sisters. Memorials may be made to the Chickasaw County Conservation Nature Center, Twin Ponds. Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton, was in charge of arrangements.
