Masemann, Edna F. nee Shuhert 1901 - 2002ALTA VISTA - Edna Masemann, 101, Alta Vista, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002 at New Hampton Care Center of natural causes. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Zion Lutheran Church, Alta Vista with Reverend Peter D. Peterson officiating. Norma Firkins will be the organist and will accompany those in attendance singing "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "Remember Thee" and "How Great Thou Art". Kenneth Joachim will be the soloist singing "In The Garden"! Kevin Masemann will also accompany with the trumpet. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Alta Vista with Tom Orthaus, A1 Recker, Keith Johnson, Richard Miller, Marvel Erion and Bob Savre serving as casket bearers. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, Elma and an hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Edna Frances Masemann was bom Sept. 21, 1901 in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Alex and Dora (Kemp) Shu-hert. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Alta Vista. She received her schooling at a country school near her family's home. On Feb. 23, 1922 she was united in marriage to Fred Masemann at Zion Lutheran Church, Alta Vista. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Alta Vista area until their retirement in 1956, when they moved to Alta Vista. Edna resided at her home in Alta Vista until May of 2000, when she went to the New Hampton Care Center. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, WELCA, Alta Vista Garden Club and was a charter member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Alta Vista. She enjoyed farming, flowers, gardening, music, playing the organ, cooking and baking. Survivors include her son, Melvin, Alta Vista; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Fred, in 1980; a daughter, Delors Erion and a great-granddaughter, Valerie Brown.
