Marvin, LaVern H. 1920 - 2002ALTA VISTA - LaVern Marvin, 81, Alta Vista, died Monday, June 10, 2002 at New Hampton Care Center in New Hampton of natural causes. Funeral Services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 13 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Alta Vista with Reverend John Hemann presiding. Sara Recker was the organist accompanying the'St. Bernard Mixed Choir. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Alta Vista witn Bill Simmons, Dennis Marvin, John Marvin, Robert Knutson, Mike Rosonke and Randy Strnad serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Joseph Court. Visitation was from 4 to 8 .m. Wednesday, June 12 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, Elma, where there was a 4 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary and 7 p.m. Scripture Service. Visitation was also an hour prior to services at the church. LaVern Henry Marvin was born Dec. 28,1920 south of Alta Vista, the son of Irvin and Katherine (Boehmer) Marvin. He attended country school near his home. Following his schooling he farmed with his family and also farmed with the neighbors. He was a lifelong farmer. He retired in the early 90's and moved to Alta Vista. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Joseph Court #878. He enjoyed watching the traffic pass and visiting with his neighbors. Survivors include a brother, Virgil (Monica) Marvin, Alta Vista; four sisters, Marcella (Bob) Simmons, Marion, Delores Welch, Hammond, IN, Myrtle (Harold) Rosonke, New Hampton and Mary (Nels) Knutson, Charles City and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Clarence and a sister, Alice Seeger.
